Unless you are a musician, you would not realize how difficult it is to play like Ayler does. He can play straight ahead all day long he's so good. This is more difficult to make not sound like noise which it does to most people because they can't hear it as a musician does.
They say that genius and mental illness goes hand in hand. I think that was the case with this eloquent and quiet man. It took me quite awhile to appreciate Albert Ayler.
@peppersax I haven't seen this film but i have listened to a lot of ayler and have heard him speak in interviews and nothing has implied that he had a mental illness. I am not asking in a sarcastic manner at all, I am interested. Why do you think Ayler had a mental illness?

I truly love Ayler...A real poet....Him and Pee Wee Russel were two of a kind. Unique and complex lyricists. We were not ready for them.
