Hey very helpful videos :) Quick question; if you make a scene/light show beforehand, how would you get the lights and the music in sync? Presuming its a backing track. I've no clue how you would get live music in sync.

To abujamin -

You can run both VDJ and MyDMX on one laptop, but whether you get any problems is down to the capability of your laptop.

If you have a dual core machine of 2 GHz or above then you should be OK.

Let it be noted, however, that I recommend your lighting and sound always be run on separate machines.

Dont! Google Freestyler, Sunlight, Showmagic. or just DMX Software There is plenty to choose from.. IMHO this is not one of American DJs better products.

I just downloaded it. IMHO its a toy. There is soooo much better out there for the pro Dj or lighting guy. It doesnt even have any macros. Even dontate-ware like freestyler has programable macros.. Mydmx is kinda like a dmx 192 with a viewer attached and thats all. I just added some martin mini macs and it couldnt even get the colors right. I believe ADJ have put too much effort into the visualiser and almost none into the actuall control side of the ware. Time for an uninstall.

I know just the "concept" of DMX. Can this program synchronize the lights to different songs? If yes, how is this done? Can a light show be "saved" and then emailed to another MyDMX user? I have a fantasy about a DJ software program that I can program a light show and save it with the MP3 file, and when I play that song, the light show is the same each time. MyDMX has almost every light in its library. (and yes it does have the Dj Spot 250) and when new lights come out you can go to the ADJ website and download the new profiles, so you can use new lights when they come out and were not in the lighing library when you bought it.

Question 1 what is the retail price of this software and is the interface included? Question 2 how are you connecting the lights (via a snake config)? I understand the in and out. Can you please do a video showing the actual connection to the lights? I'm trying to understand if we continually (in and out) to every light,,cuz I'm using Chauvet for the color strips and ADJ for the scanners. If we link different brands 2gether does the program recognize all of this via a dmx loop config? You can mix-match whatever brands you wish in a DMX chain. All you have to do is make sure everything is assigned correctly on both the lights and the DMX controller.

that's F###ing awesome! Three lights and all that action. Ok...so you had the 8-scene show going. Can you save that as a group and have it play for 2-2 1/2 minutes and then go to another group for xxx minutes and so on...?

The timing is assigned in the editor tab. on the far right hand side you will see two rectangles with 0's in them, Those are for you fade and wait times.

just as a recommendation, if you want a very dynamic show with alot of movement, in a "scene" you can create what are called "steps" and for each one you can individually set fade time and wait time, this can be of great advantage if you are programming to specific songs, as you can time it to move and change colors to the beat of the song.

You could do a different show file per song but that would be tedious to load up after each song. i believe it would be very hard and a lot of work to try to do lights to music on my dmx. yes you can use midi with this software. any questions feel free to go to my channel and send me a message or join up on the ADJ forums. sincerely, James.

Well your supposed to daisy chain the dmx line. that you will HAVE to do. if you want midi on compu live then your gonna need either a external hardware midi controller or a internal midi software. i have 3D stages programmed but didnt use midi for it. i used the easy show feature which you will need to trigger music and lights so you will need the 2048FC package at the minimum. pleas SEND me a message if you have more questions. sincerely, james.

In the old days, we use to see a lot of touch screens in clubs to do lighting.

Not sure what people are using now. I would think just about any modern PC with a USB out would work just fine.

Thanks for the quick replies. I am intending this for a club install, and each DJ brings his own laptop. Plus, I'd hate to have a mission-critical lighting setup running on a DJ-accessed computer that could potential crash.

I was kind of hoping for a programmable controller box via a PC, but once it's programmed, it can be disconnected. We were also looking at some of the other products such as Martin's Lightjockey 2, but it appears that all these products require a dedicated PC.

You don't need a dedicated PC for this. If you are aleady using a laptop for a music application, you should have no trouble running them together (unless you have a crap laptop)

as I know transparent cues, it's the building of several programs that only affect specific elements of a fixture (ie channels 1+2 tilt/pan) then have a completely seperate program control color, or another gobo. Then able to run all three programs in parallel, that way you can create as many different programs as you want for each aspect of every unit.

For instance: having a strobe program that at a click of a button makes *all* your fixtures strobe: leds, scanners etc.

I have found a couple things about this program right off the bat that might be disadvantages:

1.) In the 3D visualiser lights will apear from the LED par cans without adjusting the dimmer fader. This could result in programming a light show and not having any lights come on because the dimmer faders were overlooked.

2.) The objects pre made in the 3D visualizer are done in metric, making it very difficult to make scale models of venues when you're used to working in feet and inches.

3.) I'm fairly certain you're not allowed scene playback in Demo mode, making it that you have to have the dongle hooked up in order to play back the scences. I may be wrong about this, if someone could correct me that would be great, since I'm trying to visualize scences only in Demo mode right now.

1) what profiles were those? i can try to fix the profiles for you if you tell me which ones u had. 2) you can change from metric to feet in the room dimensions. 3) yes you can yogo to user tab and hit play. also to have the scenes play you have to select the number of loops and then in the "next" double clik on on the words and then select next or the scene u want to play next. again any questipns feel free to join up on the ADJ forums. we have a whole section dedicated to MY DMX. peace!jingles

Jingles, thanks for clearing up how to play scenes. I couldn't find out any more playing them in the manual and I thought it had something to do with the next but nothing happened when I clicked so I moved on, I guess I just didn't double click in the right area.

I know that you can change from meters to feet in the room dimensions, but when you load in the previously made objects like the parts for an ADJ LTS-50 (like Brian did in this video) their dimensions aren't expressed in feet.

Yep, I know how to resize objects, but its very difficult trying to place objects in specific locations and built a venue to scale when the room dimensions are supplied in feet and the objects provided are done in meters, the conversions suck. I'll make due, but if there was a way to actually scale the objects to the exact dimensions they are in real life, it would be make venue design much more useful.

Is there anything that can be done for making sure the 3D visualizer doesn't show a light is on even if the dimmer chennel is at 0. This doesn't happen for any ADJ lights, but specifically for the Chauvet Colorspalsh Jr. (a highly used mobile dj light) you can see the light on even if the dimmer channel is not active.

It's probably important to keep in mind that this isn't the most advanced lighting program on the market. It is, however a nice DMX software controller for thoes of us who need something that's easy to use and gets the job done. From what I understand from people who know this program better than I, there are ways around most of the things you mention.

Totally agree with you Brian. Just pointed out observations for the sake of information, not knocking myDMX. Already have my order in for the Dongle. How sweet would it have been if our DMX Operator 192 could act as the dongle? Would have saved me some money for sure.

Anyone about to ask Brian what this program can do should go to the American DJ page and download the software for free to try it out. That's what I did and its AWESOME to play with! Pretty easy to pick up, and the manual is short and sweet to read, takes about 15 minutes and you have enough to put together a light show. I took off work early and built a venue I'm playing in next week to try out my light show and predict dimming values. How sweet is that?
