Wast able to enjoy Rory while he was alive, was only ´bout 13 when he past away. Still I feel sorrow for the music world for losing souch a great icon. His style and music and devotion (is that how its spelled?) gives me new inspiration every day. Hope we all can keep him in memory and let his legacy live on!
No Rory wasn't an acoustic guitar player. He was an alto sax player, clavinet player, mandolin player,MASTER resonator guitar player & I haven't even gotten to electric blues guitar player held in HIGH esteem by all the greats. He's not even playing half of what he knows here. I suggest you listen to Pistol Slapper Blues,Nothing But the Devil, Rag Mamma Rag,or Too Much Alcohol but the best ability Rory had was that he was honest with his music, true to the form and a very REAL,HUMBLE person.
holly crap! thought i knew most legendery guitarists work,go's to show even nearing 40 there is so much i have missed, heard of rory in conversation but had no idea of the virtuoso musical work, phenomenal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@cycloneaxe welcome, enjoy the whole Rory experience. You've wasted a lot of time. Those of us nearing 60 still can't get enough, even tho we saw him live, many times.
Fuk man this dude is just plain awsesome he can play that guitar like no one i've ever seen, just got turned on to him by mistake WOW thank christ what a treat
Rory was such a class guy, always gave acknowledgement to the other musicians on stage. How to be humble and be great at what you do. If I only could, Rory's at the top of my list to sit down and have a beer with. The world lost a great MAN when we lost him.
If you remember what was going on at this time 1985, here's Rory playin and singin the blues he sure was his own man. Not many people were stickin to their roots mid 80's. He is the essence of the blues and musician=ship.
was just glad to have seen him,, glasgow apollo few times middle seventies,, great guy,, so humble,, was a god to glasgow people, and his band,, had a beer with him,, a cool cool man. dont compare him with others,, just know he take's some beating..
If Frampton Comes Alive turned Peter Frampton into a superstar i don't know how Irish Tour 71 or Live in Europe '74 didn't do the same for Rory. Of course he wasn't as pretty as Frampton and he doesn't have any radio friendly singalong things like Show Me the Way but its a travesty that only guitar players really appreciate his genius.
Clapton is a good Songwriter, but as a musician ( guitarist ) Rory is Clearly better , more feeling , more Power, let me say it like this, Clapton plays the Blues , Rory is the Blues !
@MrAlex0262 Rory is good songwriter aswell, but I don't like comparing him with Clapton. I agree that he was genious guitar player, also way better singer and I just like him more, but Clapton is a great artist too with a great impact on blues, so I don't think that comparing them is a good idea. Enjoy the music, the more impressive artists we can be listening to, the better it is for us. :)
so im blues lover from Croatia,we got just one blues-rock band Majke(Mamas)...but i dont understand how 90 % of people in world dont know who Rory is O.o They Shock Me :D

Rory died of cancer. His career lasted much longer than Tommy Bolin. Rory was a musicians musician. Clapton and his peers think that Rory was one of the best player ever.
AMEN .... Balkan Boy ... he plays cause HE PLAYS ... not cause he's Rory Gallagher...but like T.Bolin ... did NOT git his " JUST DESSERTS" . GREAT MUSIC, GREAT MUSICIANS ... AND GREAT DRUGS ... TOO BAD THE DRUGS STOLE MOST OF THEM WAY TOO SOON !!! They did NOT KNOW what they really MEANT to US ... who really HEAR !!! ROCK ON !!
We are so lucky to have youtube, thanks chrisbekas for this gem.. I was lucky enough to see Rory once, wish I'd seen him many more times...What a talent, he will be greatly missed RIP Rory and thanks for the great tunes..
Rory, brother you rock man, saw you live in 76, just got back off the last 4 years in Nam, saw you in Seattle with Johnny and Edgar Winter with Rick Derringer, brother, you blew the audience away....the only thing I saw that compared was John Mayall and the Peter Green band in a biker bar here in Minneapolis a few years ago....Hey Peter, thanks for the autograph, I know it wasn't easy to give, I could see it in your eyes.............Peace, Keith
I've loved this man and his music since I was a child.. To bad I never got to see him live... You are sadly missed Rory.. The don't make'em like you anymore...
Saw Rory and his band at Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday celebrations in The Olympia in Dublin. He was magic as ever. The debate of Rory v. Hendrix or Rory v. Stevie Ray or whoever is so pointless. But Rory Gallagher has Rock AND Roll AND Blues and no one connected with his audience like him. I say 'SPREAD THE WORD'.

i agree... but i think we just need to give it some time... the blues is america's music, and at least in my local city, i'm seeing tons of blues arrising over this hardcore/indie scene... both young and old musicians are getting the blues, i myself am one... what we need is extreme support on a national level for true talented-music loving musicians...
this attitutude like we'll never see another talented musician become popular again only re-enforces what we all dont want....
Aye good comment. Rory was a great ambassador for the really old soulful blues, played with so much passion. His music endures! Love playing his stuff on guitar, suggest you do the same!
