2 handed backhand is more weight but less speed. so people says it is more power is wrong. it gotta be both to make it power, which is momentum or speed in tennis. look at speed of fed when he hit the ball, it is 90mph which is more than any 2-handed backhand. in additin, 1 handed backhand is better for under spin and versatile. people start out with 2handed backhand and get used to with it. change it, it takes time, but 1 handed backhand is way better
@travisdt Nah..they both have equal amounts of pros and cons, but even though I'm a 2-hander, I think 1 hander backhand is ONLY SLIGHTLY better not way better
@travisdt i play college tennis and have a one handed... I dream of having a two handed backhand all the time. Return of serve would be much easier especially in doubles when you are returning two feet inside the baseline. high balls are tough to hit topspin unless timed very well with a one hander. But i loveee the slice and spins I can get otherwise. its good and bad at the same time
fed hits the ball quite flat and the margin for error is non-existent. Thats why he mis hits that ball so much. There is no variation to that swing, its so mechanical. Compare with Richard Gasquets backhand. Dude can vary that backhand and the margin is do much higher...
@nomanno It depends on the grip and the form. Also, it sounds like you are focusing on power, so try putting more spin on the ball. Don't use your arm as much. As you can see, Roger uses his body to generate the power.
When I compare the one-handed backhand to the two-handed backhand, It seems the the two handed backhand has more power and control while the one-handed backhand which I am using, I feel that it is very hard to control the ball as I always hit the ball and it goes very high and out. Any tips on improving my one-handed backhand?
my bad. I can type short sentences too. here's a short one : fuck u!
hows that?
here i was tryin to b clear on what i meant about my comment and u don't actually have a "reply" to that other than picking apart how long my senteces are! WTF?!
oops, that was a long sentence again. not my problem if a shithead like u can't handle it.
Funny how people with incredibly amazing forehands have horrible backhands. Here's an idea...maybe they just look bad in comparison? Most pros would LOVE to have his backhand.
Good point. I'd love to have his backhand. Heck, chop that whole right arm off, I'll take it to go. Hmm, what the hell, I'll indulge myself; I'll make it combo and take those legs and eyes, too.
great video...he's got a good backhand...but how does he cope with the high bouncing balls to it? Nadal seems to favor this wing a lot, with his heavy topspin
no that is not true. he did beat nadal.. several times, even on clay. and the several times he lost on clay, federer really had the chance to win the match.. for example 2008 Hamburg-Germany. leading first set.. lost 5-7, won the second set.. lost third set. he led 4-1 in the first set i guess.
he has to move more to hit the ball in a more comfortable position.. or try to take the ball at a lower point to play more agressive.
Not really. He's made it to what... 19 straight semi-finals in majors? He's obviously doing something right. I think people are overreacting a little bit because he's come back down to earth from his unsustainably high perch.
seeing as how emotional this guy is, i wouldn't be surprised if having a child in his life could turn things around for him- perhaps a greater depth in life will relieve all the stress of silly tennis world for the guy; that could give him the right mind for another 2 slams. he's still got another three or four years to go, and that's a total of 12 to 16 chances to take the record, not including the three chances he has this year still (well, 2 really :P we might as well give all the FOs to ..).
@caloyjp No. why would a man, who's done what he's done... switch to a bigger headsize racket and ruin the skill and evolution of his playing level by switching his weapon?
1:06 look at how late federer took his racquet back after the ball bounces. this is why fed is so great.

Hi Will. Where is it appropriate to make contact during a slice, out in front or to my side?

Federer, great backhand, but not in the same league as Gasquet or Henin. Can't have it all

Beautiful shot...too bad it doesn't work.
Seriously though, this shot is his liability.

wow dude, 13 GS and suddenly drop to #2 and his backhand dont work? lol stupid.

Oh my god! Chill out. I guess I should have been clearer with my comment. His bh was always his weakest (or weaker) shot even when he was dominating.
And I'm not one of those people who thinks he's "done" or whatever b/c he's #2. He still can win however many slams he sets his mind to.

Hi Will, do you think roger needs to switch to a bigger frame? maybe about a 100. he seems to be framing a lot of his shots during matches.

Possibly, but I'd argue he's only had a down year in his sense of down. 2008 was still a great year for him.
