He really is (alas, was) an amazing actor, and his effect on people is perhaps even more amazing. Somehow nearly everyone--across language and cultural barriers (eg Columbo was supposedly quite popular in Iran I believe)--are touched by what I can only figure must be his essential humanity, which shines through in everything he does (even when the material is not of the best). And how his work touches each person in such an individual way...? Miraculous.
Something this episode does brilliantly of having the Cassavetes' conductor show off all his unnecessary wealth and vanity. Anyways, it's always nice to see both in front of the camera and you can actually feel the friendship in front. Thank you for adding to YouTube!
You're very welcome. I like this scene because you really get a sense of how much they like working together here; they get a chance to be a little playful, not least of all (as you said) with the conductor's superficial superiority. I posted another scene from this episode but for some reason there's a restriction placed on it by the host site that allows no one to view it. Cassavetes & Falk are such a pleasure to watch (& amazing together, & harrowing, in Mikey & Nicky)
Guys, I really hate to say this, Peter Falk died today. RIP Lt Columbo and you really were "Terrific!!" Thanks for the wonderful TV shows. You will always be in my heart. Dr Paul of the UK xxx
John Cassavettes was a great actor & was taken from this world to young.? RIP John & Peter
