@CommandoG36 All AKs have a scope mount. Left side opposite the charging handle. Also, no body armor is impenetrable, let alone from fat rifle slug like the x39.
@WolfenFoust no your basic run of the mill AK47 does not have a scope mount. you can BUY new AK47's that do and new uppers that allow the mounting of a pica tinny rail and such. and the x39 doesn't have a hope at penetrating body armor reliably at modern rifle ranges of 500 to 800 meters. your gonna have a lot more success with a smaller round that the AK74 uses. there is a reason why Russia uses AN-94's and AK74's. I'd imagine an AK47 would be fun to shoot but that's it.

For one, that's an American system, not Russian. It adds the flexibility of a quick detach scopes, as you flip a lever and pull the whole system off. Look up PSO scopes for AK47s, and you will see exactly where they mount. Sounds like that kind of range is obsolete, less your a sniper.

@USMCWelborn If he cant hit the side of barn at 200 meters, that is not the weapon's fault. I can easily shoot human size targets from 200 meters with 2 rounds short burst. However i use AMD 65 with no modification. 300 meters is a bit more challenging, but even that range, its not that hard to hit a human size target.

@crackbaby1058 AK47s are built cheap. But the loose tolerances they hold are what make it so it can shot while being dirty. M16s however are very universal. They can accept dual drum 100 round magazines. Far more accurate than an AK in semi full auto or burst. You can hold much more M16 ammo than AK and be more accurate. Its not the one who wastes the most ammo its the one who can claim the most kills and accuracy will do that every time. AKs are just luck shots.
The AK wins because right from the off it worked unlike the MI6 which was sent into battle, in the tropics, unprotected against rust and corrosion. Many GIs died holding jammed Mi6s.
just like the stg 44,the ak is a bullshit at long range but at short range,it is a complete monster because of its immense power.it can destroy a concrete with just one shot unlike the m16,it takes a number of shots and in the jungles of vietnam,many GIs were killed because it can penetrate through thick branches and the m16 cant.
Ahhhh M16/M4 fan boys get all butt hurt when their favorite rifle doesn't get picked. AK is number one. M16 isn't more accurate, its just more precise. Yea the AK most likely won't group well but who cares, all you need is one good shot placed in the right place and it'll do its job. Plus its 10x more reliable than the M16. Its accurate up until 300 meters (i can't even see past 100 so it's good enough for me). I have both, i love my AR but the AK wins hands down.

I really don't understand why the AK gets #1 for a lot of things. Yes it is the most produced weapon of its time, that 7.62 power is good, and it is very reliable. But when I think of a good "rifle" I want something that has accuracy past 3 feet and doesn't have recoil that would kill a baby elephant. I think the M16 deserves it's rightful spot at #1 simply because at 100+ plus yards........that M16a2 is gonna win 10 times out of 10. At the number 2 spot though, I do think the Kalashnikov is it

Here in Australia we can't have those and if i was able to i would get both the Kalashnikov and the AR. @TensionAirsoft the aug is a great weapon and It's currently used. It's arguably one of the best bullpup rifles out there. I personally don't like bullpup rifles but the aug is a solid weapon....I had a chance to use and breakdown the MSAR version from a friend although not exact clone it's pretty close and a fine weapon.
The AUG should really not be in here, it played no crucial part in weapon evolution or history, other than being made of plastic, which H&K already accomplished.

MOst "AK 47"s are actaully any AK variant the AK 100, AK101, AK 102, AK 103, AK104, Ak74 and AK74U are all commonly cofused as "AK-47s" Believe it or not, the the AK74U and AK 100-103 are all carbines of, not the original, but the AK74. THey all Fire 5.45mm rounds while the original AK 47 shot a 7.62mm. The AK 104 is the only other "AK" that fires that round

Yup, so-called long stroke piston are bascially known as = Bolt action mechanism and rotating bolt = Gas-pperation mechanism, but i think you know more than i do about the complex definition of these fancy words...however do not change the topic, seriously compare the outlook,design and specification among StG-44 and Ak-47, they are very similar, like the wooden stock, banana sized clip and rate of fire etc, maybe the only obvious different is the cartridge
I like the FAL, PRT-91 and the Cetme G3... But I think if I ever go 308 I will buy that new Ruger Gun sight 308 scout rifle. 6.75 lbs. I like to stay light and move fast. Bolt action, but deadly accurate. 15 round magazines. Also I think it is under 800 bucks.
@vChipGivesThemSight i own both and the ar is a far better rifle. better range and accuracy and its very reliable now. look at dirt tests here on youtube and you will see that the ar wins 99% of the time.
Haven't used a lot of this machine but it sure is the king of the assault riffles. Such a reliable friend. Shot it in mud and in -30 celsius, never any problems.

@MrAppleseed88 mini 14s can only shoot the 223.(can't even shoot the higher pressure NATO 5.56 version unless you buy some of the newer more expensive versions with the heavier barrel and etc.)and have serious issues with "barrel whip" not to mention the limited reliable magazine choices. Mini 30s are pretty much the same quality, just chambered in the 7.62x39. But it's really comparing apples to oranges. Military rifle vs. a deer/ranch rifle or what have you.
@MrAppleseed88 Why not just get an ar15? I see them at cabela's for less then $600 all the time. Cheaper mags, infinite customization, and some damn good sights to boot. Or you could build one. Then if you like the ak style rifles but like the 223. then you could get a saiga in 5.56x45 or an ak-74 in 5.45x39 (all most identical in ballistics to the 5.56 but the ammo is even cheaper) under $600(seen a tantal on gunbroker the other day for $450!) Though the sights on the mini's are pretty FBA!
@therealist1057 Well yeah they dont have a Hammer forged barrel like a MINI, they are just 2 MOA like the MINI 14, and their is no way in hell they will be as reliable as the MINI 14. MINI weak point is the Mags cost, but now Tapco Gen II are good reliable and cheap.
@MrAppleseed88 Well you can get the gas piston Bushmasters for pretty cheap now and they are just as reliable as the mini's and the ak's, I had a few of the tapco mini 30 mags and they were pretty good, except for that one I got(was replaced) that had a really really weak spring. The ones on my ak work good but they get torn the f*** up by the mag well. Well ar's are rated at 1 MOA and with a free floated barrel you'll get sub MOAs with a decent shooter. But the same can be said for a good mini.

You get a small pebble through the side Of the dust cover (fire select lever) it can easily Jam the fire control group...seen it first hand and had it happen on my civi version. The reason the AK is so good is because its tolerances are loose, making it extremely reliable under many different conditions. So far it's the only rifle that doesn't jam out in the Afghan sandbox. The piston-ARs are decent, but expensive, compared to an AK which has an average cost of $200. The fact that they can keep going and going on very little maintenance is why Special Forces are often issued them in the sandbox.

Sorry dude the mp44/stg44 is a tilting bolt not a rotating bolt although it may have inspired the AK 47 there are big differences the way the by operates being one and that's a major difference. 7.62x39 milsurp ammo tends to be a bimetal (steel copper wash) jacket and tends to leave .30 holes unless none is hit or object before hitting flesh. Google m16 leg shot. I wouldn't want to be hit by either
Mk318 mod 0 is an open tip match round the marines use sost. Te m855A1 is open tip copper jacketed copper plug with a stacked exposed steel tip much like a ballistic tip and heavy gr 75-77 match king open tip boat ails are used too all fragment the m193 was better at fragging at the cannelure then the steel core m855 green tips

AK-47; one of the BEST, if not THE best rifle out there. And for those of you that call it outdated and ineffective, IMO its the user, not the rifle. You give a trained soldier who has been TRAINED on the AK-47 system and I bet you that he will be just as capable of taking out Tangos as a US soldier with an M-16/M-4. And even then US GI's don't make assault rifles that punch THROUGH concrete. And in war, its not about killing your opponent, its putting them out of the fight and wasting resources

Dude the 7.62x39 is an intermediate round and has slightly more "kick" out of an ak then the 5.56 out of a m4. Whoever says the ak has a ton of recoil or awful recoil have never fired one. In controlled burst it's mild. Shit even the 7.62x51 out of a SCAR or KAC SASS or m110 is pretty mild.

They can accept dual drum 100 round magazines. Far more accurate than an AK in semi full auto or burst. You can hold much more M16 ammo than AK and be more accurate. Its not the one who wastes the most ammo its the one who can claim the most kills and accuracy will do that every time. AKs are just luck shots.

Ahhhh M16/M4 fan boys get all butt hurt when their favorite rifle doesn't get picked. AK is number one. M16 isn't more accurate, its just more precise. Yea the AK most likely won't group well but who cares, all you need is one good shot placed in the right place and it'll do its job. Plus its 10x more reliable than the M16. Its accurate up until 300 meters (i can't even see past 100 so it's good enough for me). I have both, i love my AR but the AK wins hands down.

I really don't understand why the AK gets #1 for a lot of things. Yes it is the most produced weapon of its time, that 7.62 power is good, and it is very reliable. But when I think of a good "rifle" I want something that has accuracy past 3 feet and doesn't have recoil that would kill a baby elephant. I think the M16 deserves it's rightful spot at #1 simply because at 100+ plus yards........that M16a2 is gonna win 10 times out of 10. At the number 2 spot though, I do think the Kalashnikov is it

MOst "AK 47"s are actaully any AK variant the AK 100, AK101, AK 102, AK 103, AK104, Ak74 and AK74U are all commonly cofused as "AK-47s" Believe it or not, the the AK74U and AK 100-103 are all carbines of, not the original, but the AK74. THey all Fire 5.45mm rounds while the original AK 47 shot a 7.62mm. The AK 104 is the only other "AK" that fires that round

Yup, so-called long stroke piston are bascially known as = Bolt action mechanism and rotating bolt = Gas-pperation mechanism, but i think you know more than i do about the complex definition of these fancy words...however do not change the topic, seriously compare the outlook,design and specification among StG-44 and Ak-47, they are very similar, like the wooden stock, banana sized clip and rate of fire etc, maybe the only obvious different is the cartridge

Mini 30s are pretty much the same quality, just chambered in the 7.62x39. But it's really comparing apples to oranges. Military rifle vs. a deer/ranch rifle or what have you.

Then if you like the ak style rifles but like the 223. then you could get a saiga in 5.56x45 or an ak-74 in 5.45x39 (all most identical in ballistics to the 5.56 but the ammo is even cheaper) under $600(seen a tantal on gunbroker the other day for $450!) Though the sights on the mini's are pretty FBA!

@MrAppleseed88 Well you can get the gas piston Bushmasters for pretty cheap now and they are just as reliable as the mini's and the ak's, I had a few of the tapco mini 30 mags and they were pretty good, except for that one I got(was replaced) that had a really really weak spring. The ones on my ak work good but they get torn the f*** up by the mag well. Well ar's are rated at 1 MOA and with a free floated barrel you'll get sub MOAs with a decent shooter. But the same can be said for a good mini.

The reason the AK is so good is because its tolerances are loose, making it extremely reliable under many different conditions. So far it's the only rifle that doesn't jam out in the Afghan sandbox. The piston-ARs are decent, but expensive, compared to an AK which has an average cost of $200. The fact that they can keep going and going on very little maintenance is why Special Forces are often issued them in the sandbox.

Either way you look at it, I like both of them, my next guns gonna be a ak-47 if I can find the riight 1 but I haven't found it yet so ill prob just end up gettn a sks an make it look like an ak

Dude the 7.62x39 is an intermediate round and has slightly more "kick" out of an ak then the 5.56 out of a m4. Whoever says the ak has a ton of recoil or awful recoil have never fired one. In controlled burst it's mild. Shit even the 7.62x51 out of a SCAR or KAC SASS or m110 is pretty mild.
