apple has a clever way of creating a need for their toys. I didn't think I needed an ipod but the use for the technology came after purchase.
I believe the ipad will 1st appeal to the techies then once apple adds more value to the device through apps and features, it will filter down to the rest of us.
about the first comment: i deffinatly won;t bet it not only bcuz of the price but it doesn't fit in ur pocket so u have to put in ur back pack, and if u do that u might aswell have a laptop.
In my opinion it's not a failure, they made it so you could use iWorks on it, thin, light tablet, and their first of many tablets to come, so it is a good first tablet and only $499!
That's the same thing that's happening with the iPhone though. For example, "Things" is a Mac app but they have a separate one that you have to buy for the iPhone. Same thing goes for Twitterific, and Tweetie, etc.
You have fair points mate, but what i think about the tablet is that it will be a new way to use media, Laptops before was used more for a professtional use e.g. for work , office use bussines etc. but now every person has one, and used for there own use. This could be said for mobile phones and desktop pc's.
And now apple will take on the tablet, to make it appealing for the mass users.
Rather than the realese of the tablet, i just can't wait for the AD of the tablet.
I have already covered that in parts 1,2 & 3. I don't want to become a top reviewer, youtube is just a side thing i do, my ambitions don't lie with YouTube. My videos are long but detailed, there debates not short videos that just skip on points and get the to gist, I think and use resources to look at many aspects. Pro tech bloggers, read there blogs, there VERY VERY LONG. What i do, is a short version of that.lol. But hey if you find them boring, then just unsub, no hard feelings !

This is regarding the possibility of a 3G tablet model. Wouldn't it be really great if the wifi model came with a sim card slot so you can easily get 3G by just swapping out the sim between phone and tablet. I hope Apple does this
I want to the tablet to be a touch screen netbook.
So it can't run iPhone apps but can run a good 80% of applications for Mac OSX snow leopard. So the tablet will run the full Snow Leopard or a Light Version of Snow Leopard. I agree that there should be 2 models but the model with Wifi/3G/(Possibly 4G) has the ability to Call and Text.We don't need a iphone with a 10inch screen, A market that apple isn't fully in is the netbook market and thats where this tablet is going to go.
Personally I think that apple would do the same as iPhone and iPod touch users. If you buy the App "Need for Speed" on the iPhone and you want to get it on your iPod touch you'll just sync it with your computer or just sign in your account on your iPod.
maybe if there is like an emulator mode for iphone apps on the larger screen. like each button and bar and field will be automatically replaced with button styles specifically for the tablet without recompiling on the dev's part. and then maybe later, the dev can make that permanent in the code or make a more optimized UI version for the tablet.
@0501701 yeah i think i heard it somewhere that Apple have asked some app developers to have bigger resolution for their WWDS presentation, so we might be using a larger version apps of the iPhone and iPod Touch. Apple might make a netbook style with a tweaked iPhone UI. Lets hope it wont be like over $1000 unless it has new inventions.
yup, and as adrian said, there is alot of stuff they have to get through. It will be overwhelming for apple to launch 2 versions one with 3g and one with wifi with different pricing schemes for each. Apps need to be compatible or else it will be too much work for devs to make multiple version at different resolutions. automatic resolution optimization and conversion is key.
you know, i dont think its gonna be a big iphone but more like the hp tx series; a media consumer oriented tablet with a full tablet snow leopard os, probably oriented towards graphic artists. though i think that having the posibility to run iphone apps would be nice its not really a selling point.
interesting video I see a desktop mac for home use and a laptop for on the go the iphone as ultra portable.all 3 of these are powerful tools for computing and communication,so I see no point or market for a big tablet that isnt quite a match of the above they should focus on the good stuff they been doing.how are you gonna carry a sizable tablet device around with you.

I think concept artists might have use for it. They might use it in the same way a Wacom PL is used. Sketching n stuff like that. And it might be great for giving presentations for a single or a couple of customers, maybe with some interaction for the customer and so on.

Honestly to those who say it's not gonna reach mass appeal... guys, we haven't even seen an official photo or an announcement of the "Apple Tablet" just wait, later this month there is supposed to be some sort of announcement, and I think it's then we can make our opinions.
i think it would be a successful product if "if" it were a full on laptop as in if it were another macbook, then we'd have the macbook air, macbook, macbook pro and finally the macbook tablet. I think it's mostly going to be used as an ebook reader, note taker, organizer, photo viewer.
I hope it comes out with the iPhone os (since I develop for it) but we might have scaling and resizing issues with the current apps

I really dont see the need for a tablet.
Most mac users like me have a macbook for portable computing and an iphone to be ultra portable to take anywhere.
I guess Windows users might buy this tablet instead of a netbook, but the market is just not there for an apple tablet.
People who go to college would get a macbook mostly because it is a great machine and has a reputation of being long lasting.

What the tablet needs for me to consider buying one:
- Phone function (so i can drop my iphone when my contract ends)
- Some sort of version of iwork (iwork mobile or in the cloud)
- support for third party productivity apps (more sophisticated then iphone apps)
- More detailed versions off mail, ical and addressbook Extra features i would love:
- Ichat (with video conferencing)
- Argumented Reality app by Apple
I might sell my macbook and turn back to a desktop
