  • Do you know where I can find the birthday party album ? I've been lookin for a long time !

  • @daddyknobling Album art is amazing, the saddest part of CD's -> MP3's etc. Well that & the lost subtleties analogous in waves cut short in digitized hype... I miss every pop & click, though few; music was handled mroe respectfully then it seems...

  • Then again, if all you want to do is listen, why not just buy the CD for ten bucks? No record fetishism required, no costs driven up.

  • Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera is an unknown classic gem. "Flames" should have been a huge hit.

  • Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera is a classic, un known gem. "Flames" should have been a huge hit.

  • watched a few of your videos... FYI, it's pronouced rePREEESE not rePRIZE.

  • I think my dad had some of them records and from what I can remember they were pretty cool.

  • That Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera record is one of my favorites. There's something a little more timeless about their sound compared to a lot of the other psych groups. The bass is killer too!

  • YESTERDAY IS HERE.

  • Your collection is amazing. I am beyond impressed! Thanks for the education in psych rock! Any Frijid Pink in the collection?

  • Uhhh. Hmm. No, actually. I've come across a few copies of their first album but I think each time it was a bit expensive. Plus to be honest I never really liked Frijid Pink all that much, although "Crying Shame" from the first album I like.

  • Your collection is amazing. I am beyond impressed! Thanks for the education in psych rock!

  • Thanks for sharing your collection, the only two albums i recognized was "The Strawberry Alarm Clock" and "Fevertree".I was born in 1961,but totally love pychedelic music..Now i have new bands to search for on youtube.Peace

  • Ultimate Spinach weren't British: they were from Boston.

  • See my response video.

  • Family was Rick Grech's band before he joined Blind Faith.

  • any newer videos being planned?

  • Haha planned--yes, made--no. I guess I've been a bit lazy with my videos lately, but they take way more work and time than you would ever imagine. I guess I've allowed myself to become distracted by other stuff in my life, but I'm definitely hoping to still put more videos up eventually.

  • @myrecordcollection

haha, something i think would be cool is if you showed us an overview of your collection or music room if you have one

  • Sadly, it wouldn't look like much. A bunch of white boxes full of albums. It's not like in the apartment scenes in High Fidelity or anything like that. But we'll see--I'll keep your idea in mind.

  • did you know the band featured at 1 min, idle race featured 'jeff lynne' and went on to become the 'electric light orchestra'.

    jah free!

  • Nice collection and nice voice! I researched on some of them, thanks :)

  • Leafhound sounded a lot like Led Zeppelin, but they were good,I have their album on CD.

  • Hi, you have a nice collection. Have you ever came across or have the original pressing of Leaf Hound's "Growers Of Mushrooms" on Decca 1971? I still dream of going through yard sale records, or second hand shops and finding it in mint condition for cheap. ahhhhh dreaming is free.

  • Geesh, I've never even heard of that one. But Decca, like many major labels around 1968-1972, were releasing all sorts of obscure content with the hopes of cashing into the rapidly expanding record market. 1968 was the first year, for instance, that LPs outsold 45s, so suddenly it made sense for labels to experiment with a full album by a relatively unknown artist. Leaf Hound sound like one of those!

  • @jasonwillis29307 Hi, that lp, Leaf Hound is one of the rarest U.K. rock lp's..and sells for upwards of 3k when it appears!..so good luck finding one..

  • hey there, great collection:) Ive een going to flea markets and garage sale since im young, and ive had a small record collection ever since I started. Anyhow I was meaning to ask you,is dark side of the moon rare and if so, how much is it worth? thanks:)

  • Hi. Dark Side of the Moon is a great rock album, but by virtue of the fact that it was one of the best-selling albums of the early 70s, it's also one of the least rare records of the era. Generally speaking, the records that were the biggest hits sold the most copies and are thus not very rare. But the good news is that those records are so well loved, people always want to listen to them and buy copies of them. And if your copy has the original posters, that's pretty cool.

  • @myrecordcollection its cause I gave the copy I owned to my friend who was a crazy Pink Floyd fanatic:) thanks, good thing it wasnt too much expensive:)

  • i love Psychedelic rock music my fav album, is pink floyds piper at the gates of dawn very Psychedelic, erm think im goanna look up a Lot of thses bands, thanks for the vid man

  • You need Beat Garage from Chile: Los angeles Salvajes, Beat 4, Vidrios quebrados etc:.

  • wow the united states of america looks mint!

  • Hey M.R.C. - I think maybe you'll dig what I'm doing with The Daily Vinyl. I've been filming my turntable in random places (and sometimes doing random things.). I've featured The Stones, The Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, collaborations with an art group in Nashville using an original pressing of The White Album, etc. I've made 40 videos so far. Some people love it. Some think its rubbish. Oh well. All I can do is what I love and maybe some others will enjoy it too. I'd love to know what you think.

  • great suff man u have aweseome tsate in music

  • 0:40 - "Music in a Doll's House" is one of my all-time most favourite record albums!

  • the united states of america ! hell yeah i want that so bad.

  • Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera had 2 albums

  • No, Dave "Elmer Gantry" Terry left the group, and they relasead an album under the name Velvet Opera, called "Ride a Hustler's Dream".

  • -1? Check your facts first before neg someone. Haha.

  • Ah, Fever Tree - just got hold of excellent copies of For Sale (on Ampex) and Another Time Another Place on UNI. That label had some intriguing stuff to say the least. Love watching your videos, thank you for putting them up!

  • Thanks to your channel, Its made me want to check out these bands : ).

  • Cool

  • hay man, great collection, but you need music from another lands, i suggest to put your ears in peruvian psychedelic sixties bands...you must to get LOS SAICOS, TRAFFIC SOUND, TELEGRAPH AVENUE, LOS HOLYS, LAGHONIA, NEW JUGGLER SOUND, LOS YORKS, and many many more. you can to begin with two compilations edited in CD "the sons of Yma" and "back to peru".

  • I have some great South American stuff on CD, just not on record: see my "Nuggets II-ish CD" video that I made.

  • more excellent stuff man, great collection.

  • great collection!

  • Clear Light: As an adult, I finally found a copy in a shop...by telephone. I sent off a check and heard nothing for a long time. So I called the guy. He told me they had moved shop and things were in an uproar. He rushed the LP out to me that day. But my check never cleared the bank, so I called the guy again to see if he needed a new check. He said he found the original between his desk and the wall and wasn't gonna cash it. He said to consider the LP a "gift to a fan!" I love that story!

  • yes finding them is the way as i do to this day.A great collection half of which i have.

Good to see West coast pop art again!

  • Myrecordcollection, you are a blessing. I was born at the end of the 60s and grew up in San Francisco (not born there) in the Hayes Valley district and too young for all of that generation's movement. Thanks!!

  • You should know that the way to pronounce that record label is "re-PREEZE."

  • Almost no one here in the United States pronounces it that way.

  • i think the first pink floyd album would've fit in quite well

  • It would have...if only I had it! I have never found an original copy of any of those early Floyd albums. Hopefully one day I'll stumble upon one of them.

  • oh my father gave me some of his old records, got an original piper at the gates of dawn, saucerful of secrets and the 'more' soundtrack with a not so mint conditioned cover (it's got candle wax on it. hahah)

i recommend you to buy/steal/borrow any of these if you get your hands on them

  • Im sure you can find some on Ebay. I recently found originals of Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall. Im sure someone has the older albums up for auction.

  • Yeah, there are many of them available on Ebay. I don't generally like buying records from Ebay, though. I feel like it sort of takes the fun and challenge away from finding rare records. One of the biggest joys of record collecting is wanting to find something for years and then finding it. When you can buy it anytime on Ebay, I feel like it takes that away.

  • Wow. Never thought of it like that. You just blew my mind. lol

  • It seems like I have to resort to ebay . . . although I agree the most gratifying is finding a record in a bargain bin. I live in mid Missouri and don't seem to have a lot of luck though. Where do you have the most successful vinyl hunting?

  • Your best bet is a good shop, but those are becoming as rare as the records themselves. A few weeks ago I found the first Colours album on Dot Records for $5.00 at Jerry's Records here in Pittsburgh.

  • What no Doors! They are classic psychedelic rock.

  • Yeah, I didn't show stuff like Jefferson Airplane or Doors because I guess I wanted to show off-the-beaten-path classics. There are a LOT of classics, after all.

  • It's all good. Your video got me into Ultimate Spinach.Strange name for a bad, at the same time shows that the band members were very creative.

  • BTW, Ultimate Spinach is not from Britian, but Boston, MA

  • haha dont worry bro

  • and WHERE is THE DOORS?????

  • at your local chain store, no doubt

  • Haha great answer

  • Very Big Grin!

  • Man you have to rework your definition of classics! These are more obscure than classics! Some classics are: "Surrealistic Pillow", "Moby Grape" , "Forever Changes" not The Human Beinz who were obscure even in the 60's!

    Secondly - i respect your collection, it's a great one, i wish i had it :D

  • Only problem with this video is this: Where is Iron Butterfly?

  • my word u do have an outstanding collection of '60s Garage Rock & British Invation Albums..im jus @ awe of these wonderful treasures u hold & in Excellent condition...'60s Rulz Man!! thanku!..ps. im jus try'n to catch up w/ Ur vids...=0]

  • this is a cool video, but please tell me those were not sealed and that you do listen to them? cos i think theres nothing more tragic then a mute record. anyway this was very informative, il look into those bands :)

  • Yep, they're all 40+ years old, all opened, all played by me and whoever else owned them.

  • How about Contact High with the Godz?

  • Never seen it unfortunately. I do have a copy of Pearles before Swine's Balaklava album, though.

  • Your voice is incredibily soothing!

  • Thanks. Maybe I'll quit graduate school and become a disc jockey.

  • Out of these here, I've got "Side Trips" by Kaleidoscope, The Idle Race, and Clear Light. On CD, I've got the 3-CD comp "Pulsating Dreams" that features all four of Kaleidoscope's albums and "Back To The Story" by Idle Race which features both of the Jeff Lynne albums and the lousy Dave Walker one, though "She Sang Hymns Out Of Tune" is a beauty.

  • know anything about the atomic roosters?

  • You mean Atomic Rooster? They were a British group that had hits like "Tomorrow Night" and "The Devil's Answer." Their records came out on Elektra here in the USA.

  • Ever hear of the original Nirvana? Not Kurt Cobain's group. I am refering to a sixties band.

  • Sure! Their first two albums are really great. The third one, TO MARKOS III, is okay but not as good. Here in the USA their albums came out on Bell Records.

  • could you post any songs of them?

    im really interested.

  • I try not to post stuff that's easily available on CD. All of those Nirvana albums have been recently released on CD both in the UK and USA.

  • love idle race. Jeff lynne's first band.

  • i have a few of thous got the united states of amarica album today for a buck. a little ebat but very good

  • i dont think they had trouble pressing the cover.its just printed that way to look acid soaked and psychedelic.

  • I am too a sixties psychedelic freak and that is a nice collection you have. I have a lot of those on cd. I prefer Beacon St. Union over Ultimate Spinach myself, especially their first lp.

  • if i ever had 100,000 dollars id buy just that little bit right there, im a sixties psychedelic freak

  • in all honesty what do you think your rarest album is?

    great collection by the way

  • Hmm, that's a hard guess. Probably the rarest one in this video is the Fallen Angels one.

  • @myrecordcollection Ever heard The Fallen Angel's "It's a Long Way Down".

Until it came out on CD it was worth as much as The Beatles butcher cover.

    Fantastic dark psychedelia.

  • Yeah it's a nice album. I have the CD. I never understood why it is so rare. After all, it came out on a national label, Roulette. So why is it so rare and valuable? Do you know?

  • @myrecordcollection I'm only guessing but they were the only psychedelic group to come from the Washington D.C. area, also the only psych group signed by Roulette which by that time was no longer a major label. In fact, Roulette may have gone defunct shortly after this was released. The only other thing I know them for is oldies compilations of the 50's and early 60's so the Fallen Angels may have been a last ditch attempt to cash in on the new music. But no promotion.

  • Then again, Roulette was making millions from those Tommy James and the Shondells records well into '69-'70.

  • @myrecordcollection I didn't know that. Wasn't a fan of theirs. Square.

  • I am envious. What a great collection!

  • Oi! Ultimate Spinach was Boston based band, man.

  • Ultimate Spinach a British band!!!???

They were produced by Alan Lorber and were the most famous of the "Bosstown Sound" bands. Beacon Street Union was another of these Lorber bands. The Bosstown sound clearly never quite caught on. I love the Ultimate Spinach and you should mail that precious original to me ASAP.

  • For details on the "British band" issue, see my response video, "Psych Classics - Boston vs. British"

  • I beg you pardon, I did not see your reponse video. Clearly you deserve to keep your Spinach album and also deserve the magnificent gifts from Dan :-)

    Peace

  • Buena discografía, me extrañó eso sí el de Family dado que entra mas bien dentro de la progresiva inglesa, pero pienso que ambos géneros son lo mejor que dado el rock.

  • Did you say Ultimate Spinach was a British band?

I'm sure they were a Boston base band.

  • Seriously, how many times do I have to address this issue? See my response video, "Psych Classics - Boston vs. British," for the acknowledgement of my error. Or see the description. Or see the video's annotations.

  • Very nice man, very nice

  • I have all the records you have (except for a couple) and more.. I was thinking of selling em..

  • The FAMILY were from my hometown leicester in the UK a great band and a great first album but they never made it in the states

my band Black Widow played the IOW festival with them

  • So what're ya tryin' to do? MAKE US ALL JEALOUS?

  • The Ultimate Spinach were an American band

  • Ultimate Spinach are coming to your town. They'll help you party down. They're an American band.

  • so by now you probally know i watch a lot of your videos,

im trying expand my collection, what would you reccomend i try and find on vinyl, in the 60's sunshine pop/psychedelic genre?

  • Sagittarius's PRESENT TENSE and Millennium's BEGIN are great sunshine psych albums, although they're both pretty hard to come by on the original vinyl. I don't have either on vinyl, just on CD.

  • Sorry to fit in.. absolutely try the SUNDAZED catalogue.. it's full of gems

  • I was a radio programmer back in the day and played the albums you mentioned on the air (I still have most of them). Bravo for keeping them alive! I guess they should stay in my collection, after being close to the Goodwill bins. Some of these comments, by the way, contain alot of pointless, sour grapes and whine! A popular YT video, nonetheless.

  • Well,thanks for the infos!

I buy records(and CDs)in order to add to my already large library of music.Of course I do tolerate craklings and few pops once in awhile but the record has to be listenable.I like the sound and looks of vinyl, besides lots of obscure and not so obscure titles have yet to be reissued on CD,so vinyls come handy.

  • Cool collection!

    I'm into psych and progressive.

    A few questions;

1)Do you listen to all these records?

2)Do some of them sound bad?Like scratches, pops, skips and hicups?

    Thanks!

  • I usually listen to the CDs rather than the records, but off and on I play them all. In the case of albums that haven't been released on CD, I often make digital rips of them. Even a brand-new record will have some pops, but no record in decent condition should skip. I only buy records in very nice condition, so I try to avoid any that have real scratches or anything. Good-condition records sound quite good. Scratches and pops and so on are a direct result of the condition of the record.

  • shame on you :) !!! I have never EVER bought one of those plastic things.. they sound bad and have ridicolous covers.. hahahaha !!

Lately I upgraded my stereo with a new stylus for my shure v15 III

nad 3020b amp, yamaha 366 speakers but have other stuff, vintage sansui 4900, yamaha 2010 sintoamp.. i really like the nad..

  • I know what you mean, but I would have missed out on a lot of great music if I had a no-CDs policy.

  • I know.. I was kidding (sort of) but I managed to live without one.. Still hate cd's

  • Okay I don't want to rain on your parade but first of all, just because you own the record does not make it a "classic". And I think I only read one comment that alluded to the fact that the band is called The Idle Race, not "The Birthday Party". I guess that's a logical mistake but it demonstrates something that's obvious here. You like buying the record and showing it to people but that's about it.

  • I must admit, that's one stereotype of record collectors that I never understood: the idea that we care only about the objects but not the music. Why would I spend so much time collecting records if I weren't engrossed with the music they contain? For me record collecting is a *fun hobby* that's grown out of an *important passion*: my love for music. And despite your bogus logic, my considering something a "classic" or my forgetting to mention a band name does not undermine my love for music.

  • Fever Tree - should have been more popular. Their version of Neil Young's "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing" is great.

  • excuse me,

    i have a major problme.

im 12 years old so there is not much mechanical work i can do,

i have a 1967 RCA solid State Stereo Record Player.

    3 speed.

When you put a record on, the songs are noticeably faster and in a higher key.

i have tried using coins, but i would like a permanet fix, is there anything you would recommend?

  • My recommendation would be to find a new turntable entirely. It's just about impossible to fix those mechanical issues on out-of-date technology because you can't obtain the parts. Try Ebay, etc. for a new turntable.

  • i recommend a lenco l78 or l75 wich has 12, 33, 45 and 78 and is tough and has a good arm too (the s one) Use a Shure and you wont be disappointed. I would get a Sansui amp, Celestion speakers.. ohhh vintge stereos.. ahrgh

  • Enjoyed this! Made me smile. You've got a great voice... should go into radio if you're not already.

  • Ultimate Spinach as well as the Beacon Street Union were from Boston, wake up ! ! ! :-)

  • Thanks, I know that. Evidently you didn't notice the response video I made, in which I address the whole "Boston" issue. Wake up, yourself!!!

  • Ultimate Spinach as well as the Beacon Street Union were from Boston. Skunk Baxter who played guitar for Ultimate Spinach, did some work with Steely Dan.

  • I had that Fallen Angels. I don't know what happened to it. That copy you have might be it as my mom had a habit of trashing my LP's that I didn't listen to every minute of every day. Go figure. I have the 45 of "Incense and Peppermints". A friend had that same "Ultimate Spinach" but a few years ago, for whatever reason, he decided that there was no need for analog 33's in our changing digital world, and yardsold his collection. I didn't know of this yard sale or I would bought them all.

  • Awesome collection, I just ordered the clear light CD.

  • just got that peanut butter conspiracy album

    yesterday

  • mmmmmm?

the idle race? featuring jeff lynne?

    that a jewel

  • Music in a Dolls House, what an amazing album, also the Ultimate Spinach album is great, toal freak out.

  • Are you referring to Chamaeleon Church? Their album is a real soft-psych gem, if you ask me.

  • Nice collection. I bet we could talk for hours about this stuff. I love a lot of the ones you show here. Some of them made me laugh. You know now, I bet, that The Spinach were from Boston. Can you tell me what connection Chevy Chase has to his group?

  • More mind-blowing than any of these albums, is your orange shag carpet. You, sir, are truly a hardcore psych-head. I had that exact carpet as a kid in the late 70's, I remember it always made me feel like I was drowning in a sea of yarn.

  • Ahh, yes, this is the carpet in the den of the house I grew up in. Built in 1975, carpet original.

  • Kewl Kollection.... Wanna sell ;-)

  • Im starting to collect albums. I was wondering if there was like a easier way to get albums. i only have 3.... haahah

  • Easier way? Haha, I'm not sure what you mean. If you have plenty of money, Ebay is an "easy" way. But I've always searched record shops, antique stores, thrift shops, and so on. That's what I recommend.

  • thanx dawg

  • probably the black market like sweatmeets things like that my father has over 2000 l.p, cause ebay and recordshops will overprice a lots of the records. thats a way to star

  • That United States of America album is one of my all time favorites.

  • Although there WAS only one "United States Of America" album, it's well worth mentioning that it was a Joseph Byrd project and the followup was "The American Metaphysical Circus"...named after a cut on the earlier disc.

I have considered both albums essential for about 40 years now.

  • Quite right. I've never heard the Joe Byrd and the Field Hippies album, but it used to be available on CD a few years ago. I'd like to check it out one of these days.

  • Ultimate Spinach were actually from Boston, not Britain.

  • I know. See the response video.

  • Where the heck did you pick those up, my friend? Way cool Psych collection. Just the Human Beinz and Strawberry Alarm Clock alone are mind blowing to see in vinyl form. I've got the Nuggets boxed sets, but nothing compares to seeing (and in your case owning) the original albums. Holy Grail stuff, dude! Thanks for posting, with knowledgable narration to boot! A+++++++++++

  • Fever Tree were the Bomb. Never understood why they charted so poorly.

  • i have the ultimate spinach and the west coast pop art experimental band on LP too...yay

  • hey man, check out my collection, leave some feeback.

  • that's the illest

  • Very nice collection. Do you separate the discs from the jackets to minimize ring-wear, or just let them be?

  • Nah, I don't go to that much trouble. First of all, I figure that the jackets have had the discs in them for 40 years, so it's a bit late in the game to start separating them now. Second of all, simply keeping them in plastic sleeves almost totally prevents ringwear. The plastic sleeves absorb the wear so the cover doesn't.

  • Very impressive, you're my new role model too..

  • Role model? Oh, God. I can't cope with that level of responsibility.

  • Make that Washington, DC, area (as where the Fallen Angels were from).

  • The Fallen Angels were from the Washington, DC, album.

  • Doug, former player with me and in the lower right of the Clear Light album, played bass on many of The Doors albums after they reached limits with the keyboard bass.

  • I mean lower left which gives me the opportunity to also tell you that Clear Light was the tripping band with Barry McGuire in James Colburn's "The Presidents Annalist"...what a life.

  • No, it wasn't PBS, I guess I got it wrong. But that was a fabulous album, One Nation Underground. ESP certainly was an interesting label with the Fugs, Leary, Sun Ra, Godz, Manson (!), Burroughs...

One psychedelic cover I like a lot is Iron Butterfly's Heavy.

  • Great collection! For some reason though I thought United States of America were on ESP Disk?

  • Maybe you're thinking of Pearles Before Swine and their album ONE NATION UNDERGROUND. That was on ESP and it still has the "America" connection.

  • i had some of these records before they went missing at parties i'd drag them around to, grrrrr (if i'd only known then...)i did manage to find a child's guide to good and evil (wcpaeb) on cd and was pretty stoked about that! i would also add to this collection: electric music for the mind and body by country joe and the fish (berkely band) and perth county conspiracy (perth county conspiracy does not exit) a fine group from my country of canada.

  • Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera had a follow-up called "Ride a Hustler's Dream".

  • Are you sure that Ultimate Spinach is British? I thought they were from Boston. The lineup at times included Jeff Baxter and Chevy Chase, who are not British.

  • You're right: see my response video "Boston vs. British."

  • A Childs Guide to Good and Evil is a must by WEST COAST POP ART EXP BAND

  • Anybody remember the Red Crayola with the Familiar Ugly?

  • What!!? No Aorta?

  • Heart Attack! the first one is sure better than the Aorta II on Happy Tiger.

Hey, ordered the reissue of WCEPB 3 -"Child..." today as a Christmas present to myself

  • ULTIMATE SPINACH RULES-

  • Mindless creatins flowing thru idosyncric fields up rising up down You got laughing colors spinnin thru your brain you dont know what there sayin but there driving you insane

  • Thanks! More music to seek out. I only have The West Coast Pop Art Experimental and Strawberry Alarm Clock from this list.

  • Clear Light did the song Mr. Blue which was a classic from the late 60s.

  • check out the Becon street union..they were great too

  • ultimate spinach was awesome..i have a that exact alblum
