@SteChitarrista Ciao, ho provato l'alchemist 2x12. :) Ciao!
Hi Marco. I'm in the market for such a nice little amp, so I'm looking around here to find decent demos. Now, what do we have here? A great review - because you get right at it while others keep talking for minutes about the equipment they use and which no one really cares about (see TheToneKing e.g.). Don't apologize for minor flaws, your playing is truly inspiring and makes me wanna go out and get this amp. What more could you ask for? Good work, love it! Cheers from Germany, Chris.
This is impressive for me. Most amps, when you push up the gain, the top end gets thin and the mids are sometimes a little mushy. But this one is still chiming on top with a little hint of sweetness in the mids. Absolutely love it and I will be getting this amp at the next opportunity.
Ey Marco, you have the best review of this amp on youtube..at lest the one with the best sound! I'd like to know if the 1st and 2nd theme you play in this reviews are from any song. :)
In the other hand, do you have test the 6L6 already? What do you think about it?
Ah and I almost forgot; is it the 20w version you have ? And is it enough powerful to play in little gigs (pubs....) ?
PS : Your video make me falling in love in this amp...I hope that your Roland effect doesn't change his sound a lot, because there's a lot of probability that I buy it :P
@Sronic Hi, thanks ! I'm not an expert about funk...anyway I think the H&K is versatile enough ! Cleans are really "cleans" also at high volume levels. Th lead channel is very good..more hard rock than heavy metal.
These are GREAT amps - I am surprised they are not more popular than they are. I was looking for a two channel amp but though I was going to have to comprimise on my clean or gain channel, as most amps can't give you both on a shared EQ. I was WRONG on this amp! Both channels sound fantastic and the gain channel is versatile and easy to dial in ecerything from crunch to full-on gain!
getting this amp in about a week :D:D:D:D thank god for birthdays, and thank my parents for spending 1700 dollars on this amp for me :D i can't wait, it may inspire me into making some youtube vids :P who knows hehe ;D
@ragrytakr those two are my favourite amps :D the clean sound of the de ville is amazing, never heard a better clean sound, but the statesmans drie channel, especially when the boost is turned on, is simply kickass when you play a strat!!!!
@jamiesea Weird, i tried both of those amps out today! I personally prefered the sound of the H&K. I found the Laney very bright, but then its about using the controls on your guitar. The laney is a very loud , but for my useage i can imagine that the clean channel would break up before i'd want it to. Try them both out, both very good amps, certainly worth a try
IMHO it does a GOOD distortion...but not too heavy...it's more an hard rock distortion than a metal one. Maybe an EQ in the EFX loop could help in scooping the mids....
Anyway, for HEAVY distortion I would look elsewhere.. :-)
I've played some riffs from Police, Toto, Marillion..and some "original" stuff..
What I played was just the intro or the main riff..nothing more..nothing special..:)
Yes, the amp is a good sounding and well built amp ! It has a good amount of gain on the lead channel and a good clean channel. Anyway it is more a rock/hard rock amp than a metal amp...or a blues amp...at least..to my ears.. :-)
Now a wonderful sounding Peavey Delta Blues (1x15) has replaced it !!
With a LP (or similar..) the Statesman can handle very well hard rock ! I doubt it can handle (in a good and convincing) manner styles like Metallica... :)
I've had it for about a year...no problems at all: it's a GOOD piece of gear ! I replaced it with the little Laney Lionheart because I did not think that I would have played in band again....and I was wrong.
Great Tones and pretty varied too! Wasn't sure you'd be able to get a decent high(er) gain tone but you actually managed to get a very Satriani tone at ±4:00 so it sounds like a great little amp.
I've not changed the tubes yet. Accordingly with the user's manual should be a really simple operation. Unmount the back panel (few screws), replace the tubes with a matched pair and you're done.
This s amp sounds great! I have been shopping for a 20 watt amp and this seems a good choice. What is the difference in the gain channels between this and the head 6L6 model?
The 6L6 equipped ones sound cleaner and have more headroom. They're higher wattage and more Fender-like voiced than the EL34 ones (which are more Marshall-like).

Mmm...I'm not sure. Maybe with the clean channel you could get those sounds. For pop/disco/funky I would try the Roland JC-120. It's a real good sounding amp for that !
The EL84 has limited controls on the drive channel, compared to the head and 6L6 model, does this limit flexibility? also can you run an extension cab of this one? thanks!
This combo has two channels with shared EQ. You have to find your sounds trying to balance the clean and the lead channels tones...not so difficult with this amp !

Ciao e grazie!
canddesign 1 year ago
@canddesign Ciao, grazie !!

Trying to decide to pic up either the Hughes and Kettner Statesman or the Laney Lionheart L5T-112 5W.

This combo has two channels with shared EQ. You have to find your sounds trying to balance the clean and the lead channels tones...not so difficult with this amp !
