I am only too glad the video I posted has elicited such a splendid and heated debate. I have researched the '68 Convention for a script I am writing, trying to be as even handed as I could be regarding both ChiPo and the protesters.

While I believe it has accurately - and correctly - has been described as a "police riot", there were also much guilt on the "other side" to be spread around.

I hope when and if my script is ever made it reflects my attempt at even handedness.

As a Chicagoan, lol at Richard M. Daley and his being called "Richie" by Tom Brokaw. I remember seeing this in 04 (I was 14) and having been impressed at the gravitas and sense of history all the old school newsmen, including Brokaw and Matthews, brought to politics. Usually it's silliness on TV, but this segment really brought 1968 alive for me and I was struck by the power of the television medium, which is why I guess I still remember it. It's also the reason I'm a journalism major now :)
