I really liked a lot of the characters Ippo fought against, Ozuma, Kobashi and Hayami, but you never see them again in later episodes as extensively as Sendo or Date, or ever for that matter. It's like Ippo completely crushed their dreams. Ozuma retired because of a damaged spine he got from fighting Ippo, Hayami retired after being beaten by Kobashi in the junior featherweight, and Kobashi dropped off the grid after winning the junior featherweight.
Manny Pacquiao used to fight like this when he's still an amateur!
