As interactive as it is, I would assume that this bird's feather-picking more likely came from loss than neglect. I had a conure that just loved me and got used to my constant attention while disabled. As I got better, she pulled her feathers out whenever I was working. If I was out of work, she would get feathered again, so I adopted a male conure to keep her happy. She enjoyed interacting with him, but still plucked whenever I left. She needed ME, not just anyone's attention.
Awwwh that i ssoo cute i have a parrot myself and it sa Pionus Maximilian its called Olivia but we're not sure if its a boy or a girl!! This is the cutest thing ever seen!! I laughed soo hard that i started to cry theis is soo cute!!
Ha ha. I have a bald cockatoo, too. Lucky I like to keep the place warm. Linus is cool. He bites us, but he's still our family. And he loves to sing and dance, too. Says a few things and chases our feet when we wear shoes. He loves to chew up shoes. Thank god he chewed out his lift feathers. We've have nothing left of this house if he could fly.
Awwww I LOVE this little guy, He doesn't care what he looks like, he is still happy, I have a cockatoo as well, they have amazing personalities!!! Feathered or not,
@KarniksCCCP1 For heavens sake...read the intro, or at least the comments. He pulls his feathers out with his feet. It is a condition known as "captivity".
my mom used to volunteer for a rescue and would adopt/find homes for cockatoos. we have one citron thats over 40 years old and was thrown away into a dumpster where someone found him.he picked and he started biting the flesh off his chest and left a huge wound.hes better now but still picks and has to wear a jacket when he gets really bad. they do extreme things when they're upset and its hard or sometimes impossible for them to fully recover.its irritating to see all these rude comments
Just a random note/FYI - this bird isn't necessarily a plucker. He's missing feathers on his head which can be a sign of a disease like PBFD (the bird can't physically pluck feathers there... unless another bird did it to him).
He is still a very beautiful and funny bird, and I wish him the best :)
@jenny9580 Read the comments that we have posted. O is a plucker. He pulls his head feathers out with his feet. He does not have Beak and Feather, he does not have PDD. He is a perfectly happy cockatoo that doesn't care what he looks like. He has a personality that sparkles and everyone who meets him loves him
@jacquej57 I wasn't trying to suggest that he isn't a happy and well-loved bird! Like I said, he is beautiful and funny and it looks like he has a very nice life now.
I have seen quite a few plucked 'toos but never one that used his feet to pull head feathers out so that part seemed unusual to me. The only other bird I'd seen with head feathers missing was Oscar the M2, who had PBFD.
Anyway, thanks for clarifying. I'm very happy to be incorrect in this case.
@jenny9580 No problem. I've just had some very negative comments posted about how cruel it is to post pictures of such an obviously sick bird....so I'm a little over-sensitive! I've seen quite a few of the little cockatoos (goffins, ducorps and bare-eyed) that have enough dexterity in their feet to pull feathers out of their heads. It's just a very bad habit, just like chewing fingernails.
@jacquej57 People are dumb! Part of why I posted without reading too far is because YouTube comments usually make me lose faith in humanity... lol
I don't think it's cruel to post this at all - it's an important issue and people need to understand it better (including me). And as O here shows, it doesn't always mean neglect or abuse.
Ok, I read the story. Glad to hear he's in a good place. Maybe he will grow his feathers back some day but thankfully he's with people that love him just the way he is.
I love his rhythm! This is meant as a compliment: His wings and the "fluff" on the top half of his chest remind me of the fancy capes that Liberace would wear. King O aka Ophelia is a great entertainer.
it just breaks my heart and makes me hate more the human creatures who are stupid and sadly neglected of taking care of animals..this little cute parrot obviously suffer from illness and depression..these kind of parrots in the nature have their life partner and taken from the nature they fall into depression and take off their own feathers ..so PEOPLE DON`T TAKE ANIMALS IF YOU JUST WANT TO SHOW OFF WITH THEM!!!!!THEY NEED CARE AND LOVE as well as any other living form in this planet
@ShadowOfIshtar It was not illness, negligence or irresponsiblity. It was the loss of his beloved owner who died. He pulls out the feathers with his feet. It has become an ingrained behavior, much like people who bite their fingernails. He will never be able to grow his feathers totally back, because the feather follicles are damaged. He is in the care of the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary Parrot Garden where he is a beloved and pampered darling.
@ShadowOfIshtar if you'd please, look at the comment from jacque57. She talks about how this parrot's owner, who adored him, died, and King O started pulling out feathers from unhappiness. Not abuse :)
He is pulling out his own feathers because je is lonely, parrots and other birds do that even they are the only bird, to stop ot get another of the same bird species ;)
I put this video in my GOLDEN TREASURES PLAYLIST! I love this little guy soooo much!
My Geronimo starting plucking a few months ago. He acts as though the pin feathers have a drug that he is addicted to. Do you have any knowledge about this? I would appreciate any information you have.
I just... I am just in love with this bird. He's obviously been through a lot, but he still loves to dance! I just LOVE how he tries to sing the song, when he's actually just making noises. XD It's kind of like me when I don't know the words to a song or how it goes but I try to sing along anyway. But he's just so CONFIDENT about the noises he's making, which makes it so godamned cute it made my day.
So sweet! Glad King O has got such good caregivers now! Hey, why not delete those idiot's rude comments here on YouTube? They don't deserve even being acknowledged. Some people just have dark hearts!
cockatoos will pull out thier own feathers, even those on their head (they use their feet) when they are unhappy, uncared for or bored. O's first owner, who he adored, died. O started plucking from unhappiness and boredom in his new home. Now the follicles are damaged, and the feathers won't regrow. But feathers, much like hair, are optional. His personaility and charm make up for his looks. We think he is perfect, just the way he is.
@jacquej57 This is why parrots should NEVER EVER be kept alone. Forcing them to adapt to a human by giving them no parrot friend is cruel enough, but of course if that human cannot take care of the parrot even more it makes it even worse. Unfortunately most people don't care how cruel that is.
Im relieved to know that this cuttie is in good hands:D he is simply adorable!!!<3
anyway,I wanted to point that if people are not capable to keep that kind of animal which have needs for more attention and love, then not to even dare to considerate of taking one home.."
@ShadowOfIshtar Absolutely agreed. Parrots are wild animals that do not belong in cages. Unfortunately, many people buy them for the wrong reasons, and the birds suffer. If bird breeding were outlawed tomorrow, my great-grandchildren would still be dealing with the birds that are alive today.
i know two people who live near by me who has a bird like that, they invented a vest to stop it from being able to puck it's own feathers, they had many different kinds of birds, and they tried to help many kinds as they can
@devilbunnywolf Thank you for the suggestion. We do use vests here for birds that are prone to self-mutilation, but if they just have feather destructive behavior, we leave them alone. Our philosophy is that we want our birds to have the highest possible quality of life, and feathers (like hair) are optional. O is wonderful with or without feathers. And as long as he isn't harming himself, we'll let him be. But thank you for caring!
@Xaoghin YOURE UGLY!!!!! O IS BEAUTIFUL AND I FEEL BAD FOR YOU IF YOU CANT APPRECIATE HIS INNER BEAUTY. I HOPE YOU FIND PEACE SOMEDAY AND WONT HAVE TO POST NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT AMAZING DEFENSELESS CREATURES ANYMORE
@0oHellokitty86 This bird is currently at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. He pulled his feathers out with his feet when his first owner died. Maybe if you had a little more maturity, sense and compassion, you would have read the history instead of making yourself look ignorant with your lack of knowledge AND rude, tasteless and inappropriate comments. Grow up and start taking care of yourslef!
@jhoewner poor person. instead of making comments on a story you know nothing about, maybe you should go see a doctor. O is 100% healthy. He hd a tough life in his short 11 years, and may not be attractive, but there is NOTHING wrong with him medically. Get your facts straight before you comment next time
@GoGal07 He is not stresed at all! the people at best friends have been taken exceptionally great care of him and giving him more love than ever! if he was stressed her certainly would not be singing like that. He only sings when he is happy and content. you dont kow O!!!
what an adorable bird, hopefully he'll become secure again with another person and quit picking his feathers out. He's so precious, thanks for this video Best Friends.
@mammal46 O is the greatest bird ont he panet!!!I can only hope too that he finds a great home.....after the spotlight Best Friends did on their website, it shouldnt be long now....he also made it on People Magazine's Pet Page! Thank goodness for Best Friends
@loraamore Cockatoos have amazing foot control, more than most other parrots. I've seen dozens who reach up to their heads and pull their feathers out with their own feet - it's not that uncommon at all, espcially if they have nothing but time on their hands.
@loraamore Yes, cockatoos DO pull their feathers out with their feet. The cockatoo species are extremely skilled with their feet. They can pick locks with them....pulling feathers out is simple. It is especially common with the smaller species of cockatoo - the Goffins, Bare-Eyed, and DuCorps.
O pulls his feathers out with his feet. He started plucking when his first owner died. He may look a little different, but he has the biggest personality of any little bird I've ever met. He is incredible.
What a WONDERFUL Cockatoo! He is ADORABLE! He seems to have such a great personality. I love his singing. I hope the reason for his feather loss can be resolved. He is still a beautiful bird though! Thank you so much for sharing him!

Poor bird. Instead of making videos you should go to a doctor. Otherwise he will be dead in a couple of months. Seriously.
jhoewner 1 year ago
@jhoewner poor person. instead of making comments on a story you know nothing about, maybe you should go see a doctor. O is 100% healthy. He hd a tough life in his short 11 years, and may not be attractive, but there is NOTHING wrong with him medically. Get your facts straight before you comment next time

the bird is so stressed thats why he has no feathers!
GoGal07 1 year ago
@GoGal07 He is not stresed at all! the people at best friends have been taken exceptionally great care of him and giving him more love than ever! if he was stressed her certainly would not be singing like that. He only sings when he is happy and content. you dont kow O!!!

What an amazing little bird !

He looks like he's in rehabilitation to me...he was probably kept in too small a cage or something.
Too cute!

why did he pluck his feathers out?
peachypink321 1 year ago
@peachypink321 Don't think he plucked his feathers out...how would he get the ones on the top of his head?
loraamore 1 year ago
@loraamore eeeeeeeerm....with its feet?! Poor bird......
eins1null 1 year ago
@eins1null Birds don't puck feathers with their feet...He obviously has some kind of skin/feather disorder.
loraamore 1 year ago
@loraamore Cockatoos have amazing foot control, more than most other parrots. I've seen dozens who reach up to their heads and pull their feathers out with their own feet - it's not that uncommon at all, espcially if they have nothing but time on their hands.
NetBoy2112 1 year ago
@loraamore Yes, cockatoos DO pull their feathers out with their feet. The cockatoo species are extremely skilled with their feet. They can pick locks with them....pulling feathers out is simple. It is especially common with the smaller species of cockatoo - the Goffins, Bare-Eyed, and DuCorps.

O pulls his feathers out with his feet. He started plucking when his first owner died. He may look a little different, but he has the biggest personality of any little bird I've ever met. He is incredible.

He has the voice of an angel!

What a WONDERFUL Cockatoo! He is ADORABLE! He seems to have such a great personality. I love his singing. I hope the reason for his feather loss can be resolved. He is still a beautiful bird though! Thank you so much for sharing him!

What happened to him? First I thought he had been plucking himself, but parrots cannot pluck their heads :'D
