Well actually he's not technically there, it's just that if you go back to the tree that Yuan is guarding when you don't have the rest of the group with you, you'll catch Yuan talking to Kratos, though he's not there, it's like a hologram though Yuan will tell Emil not to tell Lloyd and the others that he saw Kratos, and Kratos will go back to Derris Kahrlan and stuff

Or maybe the time around where you get sheena oh and the one where you have to sneak in using the desian orb to move the boulder in the way to sneak in. Well Yeah Im A Nerd. But thats the best way to describe this ranch at the top of my head. Point being No Its required, Ah and i almost forgot, awesome part in the game By far the most badass thing in tales.
@101Swiftflick the animations are stiff as hell. but the characters, script and plot makes up for that, not to mention the awesome voice acting. A hd remake with the exact same voice actors would be a true gaming nirvana ;D

It's a great game, replaying it currently. The only complaint is that they could've made the action scenes better.
The voice actors were great with the emotions, but the animations always seemed so off cue and under-violent.
