Dave, I have a quick question, How do you keep your bike and trailer and other stuff safe when in a store, library, or eating place? Do you take it with you, lock it up etc? I am needing advice on how to keep my bike and belongings safe when entering places also. Thanks again Lamar Sherrill
@lamarsherrill I use a 6ft cable with swaged loop ends and a long shank key lock. I can lock both bike tires, the bike, the trailer and the trailer wheel with this lock. I generally never leave my bike unlock anywhere, but occasionally I'll go into a store without locking it but only in small towns. I used to really worry about it, but I figure if my bike ever got stolen...I'd just make my way to the nearest bus station and go home. I ALWAYS lock my bike within 4 feet of my tent at night
Thanks so much for the advice, we have learned so much from watching your videos. I have ordered a BOB and fitted our helmets with visors we bought from Walmart. Used heavy duty velcro since the visors have a sweat band material that sticks to the hooks on the velcro. Worked out great and we need it here in Jupiter Florida. We do plan to start slow as you advised. We try to ride every other day at this point till it cools down a little. Thanks again and looking forward to all your future videos.
Hi TWJ..... i enjoyed watching Part 3 of Wyoming and now i am looking forward to seeing Wyoming Part 4... Wyoming is beautiful country land !!
You mentioned that you are considering having a bike custom built. Well...i am in the process of fixing up a classic moutain bike i have from the early 1990s....My bicycle is green Specialized 21 spd. mountain bike....In fact, i will do a short video response to you very soon...
@distantcyclist awesome...they made'm good back then. I want a bicycle with a sloping top tube, but none of the companys that make touring bikes (except maybe Rocky Mountain Sherpa's) have that. When I get home, I'll go up to Seattle and stop in the Rodriguez Bicycle Shop... they make beautiful custom made bikes
New subscriber, Love your video's. My wife and I are just starting to train for some bike touring with a tandem bike.We are in our 60s and really enjoy riding. You are a great inspiration. The road crew was definitely a sight for sore eyes. I guess they couldn't resist your charm and gave you a ride. Thank you for getting me off my ass and getting us on a bike.
@sgtvetter I have spent time with several tandem teams during this tour. (A french couple riding the Pan-American Highway from Fairbanks Alaska to Ushuaia Argentina 16,000 miles) and a few more. They all towed a Bob. I think the best way to get into "the swing" is to take several short trips (1-3 days) and consider them a shakedown cruise to get your gear sorted out. I wouldn't make plans for huge mileage days. I thank you very much for following along and hope to see you guys on the road!
Just caught up with you dave, it's taken a while but I've seen just about all your videos now !!
A quick question though,
When you get to your campsites at the end of each leg , who do you pay your money to as there doesnt seem to be a camp office at most places I have seen? .
@robmochdre The campground I was at on this video, there was a drop-box, which happened quite often at places where you self-register. Just make sure you leave town with small bills because you won't get any change
@ThreeWheelJourney I love it now that I've caught up w/u on the videos. I google the places you mention and google map a lot of the areas you pass. It is great! I have a few obligations to get ironed out and some practice biking to do(short trips around Florida & S.Georgia) and I'll be on my way "out." Where "OUT" is I'm not sure yet but I know it's "that"way. Over the next few months I'll come to a decision as to what bike I'll get.Of corse I like the ones out of my reach, long haul trucker.
@flsportsfan65 yeah I need a new bike too... mine is 23 years old, but I keep it maintained and clean. I think I'm due for a nice bike. Have you checked out the "Windsor Tourist" ? Do a search for it... I've seen them on the road and they look good and have performed well on cross-country rides from what I've read on Crazy Guy On A Bike and other journals/blogs
@flsportsfan65 I'm still not sure what bike I'm going to buy... since I tend to keep a bike for a very long time (23 years is an old bicycle) I don't mind spending a little more. I might have a bike built custom for me... OR, I might ask a bicycle company to give me a bike for my next tour and throw in some advertisements for them
Wow, you been over 9000 miles on the bike! Amazing! Yes, Wyoming is a beautiful state...keep on peddling...Safe riding!...:)..
