@Serial520 Sorry to butt in but I HIGHLY recommend you listen to some radiohead. They are one of the most classic bands of the 21st century. They arent electronic/hip hop like FL but their stuff is very atmospheric like his and their last album had collabs w/ FL. Thom Yorke's voice is sublime.

@hamdigidy use anything and everything that gets you going, but if I may suggest one program to get you going, Ableton Live 8. It is one among many that folks like to use; Reason is another really good production program. Some cats like cubase, but honestly it's whatever is the most intuitive for you. I like Ableton.

@hamdigidy i mean, I think I read once that Burial, at one time, was using Sony's Soundforge... in other words there are a handful of really solid programs out there that will help translate your ideas into sound. There's also no reason to discount actual samplers like the more affordable roland sp303 or 404 or any of the mpcs from Akai.
