Speculation but speculation backed by facts. That book has been almost finished for three years. It abruptly got pushed back indefinitely when HBO said they were going to make series. It makes sense for him to delay the book in order for it to coincide with the series premiere. I could be wrong but I would be willing to bet 100 bucks right now that the book is released within 3 weeks of the series premiere.

@MagusX1 Oh and what are those reasons pre-tell? I'm not spouting bullshit. I'm simply offering an opinion. As far as research goes, I check Martin's Livejournal and website at least every two weeks. What reasons are you referring to? How does a book that was initially finished when Feast of Crows was released take another FIVE years to release? He ahs his reasons and I believe he has delayed its publication to increase marketing potential and revenue. You can believe what you want.

@MagusX1 I've been reading this series since it came out. Yes, I know about the 5 year jump. Yes I've heard about his continuity issues. I also think he's a talented enough writer to work these things out. The delay has an ulterior motive. Either that or he is badly in need of an editor that tells him to shut up and make hard choices. If that's the case he's in danger of becoming another Robert Jordan/Terry Goodkind. You seem very angry and bitter.

It seems to me is the most logical explanation would be he got stuck, tried to work through it, worked on a Wildcards Trilogy (glad he did), worked though most of the problems, sold the rights and made a pilot. Now at this point he was already way behind schedule. He had missed so many (Self imposed) deadlines it didn't even matter anymore. It's nothing for him to delay the book a bit more so the release coincides with the premiere.

I check his site a couple of times a month to see if it's been released or read a new sample chapter. That's it. I enjoyed the latest Wild Cards arc. There are too many authors out there for me to spend too much time worrying about old George's 3 years of writer's block.

@MagusX1 So five years ago he had to scrap 600 pages that he had already written. OKay. Then he managed to write himself into such a corner that it's taken three or four years to get out of it. I'm not even sure he's gotten out of it. Apparently, I give him more credit than you do. I think he's done. You think he's a shit writer who is in dire need of an editor. Why did I make the comment. Because at one time I really cared when the books came out. Now, I really have better things to do.

Lame trailer, but the press has jizzed their pants for the series pilot. Multiple reviewers say it blew them away. The books are fanfuckingtastic--I suggest the first 3 audiobooks read by Roy Dotrice (there's another version with a US narrator which you should AVOID). The "elevator pitch" for this series was "The Sopranos in Middle-earth" which pretty much nails it, but the magic is a bit more low key. If you've ever seen the movie Queen Margot it's like that but with dragons and zombies.

@georgerose91 books 1-3 are awesome (havent read 4 yet). it is a little bit like HBO's Rome, but w/ a lot more medieval "style", some fantasy creatures, and strange weather patterns. some of the best fantasy i've ever read. all the different character POVs add so much texture. give it a shot.

i just hope this is a fraction as epic as the books. but Rome was so good that i have faith HBO can pull off a massive ensemble, w/ an epic story arc.
