They're showing this on a big screen outside a mall in Oslo now. Except they took out all the cool clips and just kept the trees with the raven and the logo *facepalm*
@Coheedrocks27 I can't believe they are only making this 10 episodes. I don't see how justice can be done to the book in only 10 episodes. If they do screw it up, I will cry.
Haven't read the books yet...unfortunately...but I have the first four ready to start once I finish the third book of a different series, and this just makes me more eager to finish them before the show starts.
I wish George would release the next book but he's hang out waiting for the show to premiere to boost sales. Lame. I'm sure every book is written by now.
Speculation but speculation backed by facts. That book has been almost finished for three years. It abruptly got pushed back indefinitely when HBO said they were going to make series. It makes sense for him to delay the book in order for it to coincide with the series premiere. I could be wrong but I would be willing to bet 100 bucks right now that the book is released within 3 weeks of the series premiere.
@tristhan1181 Surely he would have made more money over those three years than he would on release day.i've still got a book an a half to go, but if he doesn't release it soon I may have to cry.
@MagusX1 Oh and what are those reasons pre-tell? I'm not spouting bullshit. I'm simply offering an opinion. As far as research goes, I check Martin's Livejournal and website at least every two weeks. What reasons are you referring to? How does a book that was initially finished when Feast of Crows was released take another FIVE years to release? He ahs his reasons and I believe he has delayed its publication to increase marketing potential and revenue. You can believe what you want.
@MagusX1 I've been reading this series since it came out. Yes, I know about the 5 year jump. Yes I've heard about his continuity issues. I also think he's a talented enough writer to work these things out. The delay has an ulterior motive. Either that or he is badly in need of an editor that tells him to shut up and make hard choices. If that's the case he's in danger of becoming another Robert Jordan/Terry Goodkind. You seem very angry and bitter.
@MagusX1 You're certainly free to believe what you will. It seems to me is the most logical explanation would be he got stuck, tried to work through it, worked on a Wildcards Trilogy (glad he did), worked though most of the problems, sold the rights and made a pilot. Now at this point he was already way behind schedule. He had missed so many (Self imposed) deadlines it didn't even matter anymore. It's nothing for him to delay the book a bit more so the release coincides with the premiere.
@MagusX1 True fan? WTF are you talking about? Must a offer to clean George's wrinkled taint to be considered a true fan? Honestly, I've stopped caring about when the book gets released. I check his site a couple of times a month to see if it's been released or read a new sample chapter. That's it. I enjoyed the latest Wild Cards arc. There are too many authors out there for me to spend too much time worrying about old George's 3 years of writer's block.
@MagusX1 Must I ape George and stain my drawers over a new calendar, some lame ass minatures, or the fact that he cast some HOT pornstar as Shae for the HBO series to be considered a true fan? You repeatedly call me a child, but it seems you are the one who lacks proper perspective or any semblance of maturity. You should take a step back and realize your knowledge of the minutiae of George Martin's life is something most would consider creepy and sad. Relax. I have an opinion. You have...well.
@MagusX1 No cashing is not sad. People getting excited over out of date calendars and miniatures is. What's sad is the fact that you equate comprehension of the real world and perspective with your knowledge of an excuse fro writer's block put for by and EPIC FANTASY AUTHOR! In my world people have deadlines and meet them. In my world, there are things like marketing strategy and cross-platform promotion. I'm beginning to question if you're for real. No one could be this socially inept.
@MagusX1 Sorry thay youtube doesn't allow italics in their comments block. Capslock seemed a decent substitute. Where are these valid arguments you speak of? I haven't seen one yet. You say Meereenese knot as if that is the phrase to end all arguments. It doesn't take 3 + years to work through a tricky plot point, but really that's besides the point. I doesn't matter if Martin is being a lazy ass. I don't care. He'll finish when he finishes. Hope you can understand that. Get a life man.
@MagusX1 So five years ago he had to scrap 600 pages that he had already written. OKay. Then he managed to write himself into such a corner that it's taken three or four years to get out of it. I'm not even sure he's gotten out of it. Apparently, I give him more credit than you do. I think he's done. You think he's a shit writer who is in dire need of an editor. Why did I make the comment. Because at one time I really cared when the books came out. Now, I really have better things to do.
@MagusX1 Yes, watching a 30 second teaser and jotting down an off the cuff comment in 5 seconds really prevents me from accomplishing anything else that day. You must believe he is a crap writer if you believe that he's really working very hard to overcome this plot tangle his gotten himself into and hasn't managed to extricate himself in 5 years. I still believe in his talent as a writer. I think he realizes he can make more money not publishing for awhile. Especially if it's bad like feast.
@MagusX1 Yes that is the way to win a debate (if that's what you call this). Put your fingers in your ears and just keep repeating Meereenese knot. God you're an idiot. In the end, I'll be proven right and you will be creaming your shorts when Dance comes out and forget all about this little conversation and how you looked like an idiot. Keep believing that George has been working on the most challenging plot point known to man for the past five years. I'll read Abercrombie or Erickson.
@MagusX1 You've amused me for a few days, but really this is going nowhere and you're mindless parroting of GRRiMlin rhetoric is boring. Have a nice life and please god don't procreate. There are enough people that can't discern careful marketing and propaganda from the truth. We don't need anymore.
@zagavagazaz weird, last time i checked i ranked pretty high in awesomeness... may be you didn't see it from where you stand, you know, at the bottom...
@pawnmasalaboy yep pretty much. not all of us have the good fortune to enjoy being ass raped by wild elephants while dreaming about defiling his unborn daughters with his remaining digits.
Lame trailer, but the press has jizzed their pants for the series pilot. Multiple reviewers say it blew them away. The books are fanfuckingtastic--I suggest the first 3 audiobooks read by Roy Dotrice (there's another version with a US narrator which you should AVOID). The "elevator pitch" for this series was "The Sopranos in Middle-earth" which pretty much nails it, but the magic is a bit more low key. If you've ever seen the movie Queen Margot it's like that but with dragons and zombies.
This is one of the best Fantasy novels I've ever read. I just hope the series could hold up to the amazingly high expectations fans of "A Song of Ice and Fire" have!
@georgerose91 as orchidsnv said, the books are awesome... they literally take your breath away... Some people complain that the beggining is dense and that there are too many characters... that's stupid... Read them, you'll love them...
@georgerose91 books 1-3 are awesome (havent read 4 yet). it is a little bit like HBO's Rome, but w/ a lot more medieval "style", some fantasy creatures, and strange weather patterns. some of the best fantasy i've ever read. all the different character POVs add so much texture. give it a shot.
i just hope this is a fraction as epic as the books. but Rome was so good that i have faith HBO can pull off a massive ensemble, w/ an epic story arc.
