A moment of steel, a dry eyed house Did he say goodbye to you, or did you kick him out I know you're not afraid to go alone But this was a marriage of spirit, flesh and bone Now what you gonna do when the planets shift What you gonna do, gonna slit your wrists Bleed all over the milky way The stars in your eyes look red today.... ......The heart won't remember the burning fire The next time you feel the flame of desire
Woah, this song has a 12 beat phrase that's pretty damn catchy! I came up with a similar riff and thought it was pretty unique. You find it in African music often (check Thomas Mapfumo ), but I never heard a pop song do it so well till now.
@tacofreshify Thank you! Your comment prompted me to pick up the ol' Les Paul and I found the beat in the key of C. Outstanding tune! And thanks YouTube, too.
I've only just discovered John Hiatt, so it's all new to me. I love making these discoveries and getting psyched over some great 'new' music, this guy is unreal.
If men would act like men (and fathers) instead of like selfish children, women could be the mothers and wives they are meant to be... and the children would all be better off.
Thank you, thank you to the Arrested Development fans who posted here. I heard this song right before a concert last night, and I'm sorry to say that I completely forgot what it was from. @arothmanmusic I just did that very same thing. The episode where GOB goes into prison and tries to break out, only to be stabbed by White Power (formerly Dirty Ears) Bill
I love this song. Just watching Arrested Development and this song pops up. I haven't heard it in so long. I forgot about it and it is now on my iPod. :-) iPod were not around when this tune hit.
One of the greatest singer songwriters of our time. This is a wonderful song with a depth of message rarely found in music today. He has been to the places he sings about. I've been there too.
I'm from LA and Chicago (WXRT loves John). I just dealt with some Midwestern bashing on Facebook from the West (even though I live in Portland). I'm sick of the world thinking Midwesterners are ignorant rednecks. Go Wisconsin. Go Indiana. F*'em Bucky!!!!!!!
He used to play austin at least a couple time a year. Great show. Stubb's or La Zona Rosa..10 little indians..is a gem and nowhere to found on youtube.
Yeah, he's got a solo acoustic concert and when he does this by himself and his guitar it's just so damn awesome. I heard that first, and then I heard this and was like, what? That's how it sounded first? Hmm...
I couldn't agree with you more, trublgrl!! This song was my introduction to John Hiatt...I just had to know all the lyrics and how fantastic and well written they were!! my favorite...."one day the train of pain won't stop no more" and "the heart won't remember the burning fire the next time you feel the flames of desire."....PRICELESS!!!
I used to listen the whole album once and again when i was 21..wasn't for grown ups..i think may smart teenagers understand it..even they are all day with Mosh groups bla bla...Bring the family was John at his peek of his career btw.
Is it me, or does it seem like unless someone else sings his songs, everything Hiatt does gets overlooked? I wouldn't have even seen this video if YouTube didn't exist!
Male/female commentary? This is great rock and roll you are watching people. Fuck the social commentary. Men have a penis , women have a vagina . Hiatt rules. End of discussion.
I saw Hiatt for the first time this past Tuesday at Meridian's MSU Riley Center, and he rocked out. you're right, his guitarist was amazing. what john call him, the king of all thing strings? Sweet concert.
Just saw John Hiatt last night in Dallas (Grand Praririe actually). What a great show, and I had neevr heard this song before. His guitarist was named Doug Lancio and was simply amazing. I have to go buy some more Hiatt CD's.

I will add my mother's favorite response when I complained about shabby treatment..."Once someone shows you who they are, BELIEVE them." We women tend to give too many chances when in reality, we should take the first red flag as a bailout notice, not a sign to give another chance. Move out, move on. This applies to men, too. I've given the same advice to my sons.
let me just set the record straight - it's not that women don't respect "nice guys," it's that they don't respect men who are insecure. and a lot of men who are insecure mistake themselves for nice guys, but the fact is that this is not always the case. "...as if they were nice and respectful men themselves."
Well, that's because Respect is a "two way street"...have you ever heard of it??
When women DO NOT respect nice guys, how long can nice guys sustain that level of abuse?...eventually respect from Nice guy will dry up (because its not returned when its due)
Its called mutual respect (women don't do their part)

Also, It's telling how you didn't respond to the link I sent you in your Personal Messages.
You're both retards.. respectfully of course.. Nice guys, insecure guys, stupid women, who cares... Nice guys do finish last unless they find decent ladies. The problem is they dont want nice girls they want "hot" girls, because they need something pretty to make them feel secure about themselves. But some of the seemingly timid women you see on the bus or walking down the street who normally wouldn't get a second look from most guys can be the most amazing people you could ever meet. One love!
Shallowness in the devaluation of worthwhile people is something that both men and women are guilty of...
It really seems that this characterizes the majority of both men and women.
it a great pervasive societal injustice to value someone's human worth & worthiness of social inclusion bases upon her/his level of physical attractiveness (tends to be a rule, not an exception)...
Those who practice it could never understand it as an injustice (unless it happens to them).

I fell for a guy who promised dating jerks wasn't worth it, who in everything he did promised he was different. Guess what....
If I had known how he would treat me, I don't think I ever would have fallen for him. Does it serve me right that I fell for one person and wound up with someone else?

But he was wrapped up in himself like an orange peel
Now what you gonna do with the bruise and the blush
What you gonna do when there's no rush
Cop a little misery at the corner store
Well one day that train of pain won't sthrowing up ashes on the floor
If this is a lesson in love, well what's it for

After hearing this thousands of times while watching Arrested Development, I had to hear the full song. Good stuff.

the same thing with me, but don't they use a slightly different version of the song on AD?

the 'version' on AD was edited to fit certain points in the show, so it's the same original material but they edited it a bit to highlight certain story points

Woke up in a foul mood this morning.
Listened to a bunch of John Hiatt.
I feel much better now.

I always dug this song especially the "Cry Love" that kicks off the outro (3:28). Then .the song came true for me & I couldn't bear to hear it no more
But Hiatt's so good I had to listen to this youtube.
The mistakes we make ...
