  • WHITE POWER.! I'm.. white....

  • COME ON!

  • this song struck my soul...one year of pain and counting...

  • CAW-CA-CAW! CAW-CA-CAW! CAW-CA-CAW!

  • A moment of steel, a dry eyed house Did he say goodbye to you, or did you kick him out I know you're not afraid to go alone But this was a marriage of spirit, flesh and bone Now what you gonna do when the planets shift What you gonna do, gonna slit your wrists Bleed all over the milky way The stars in your eyes look red today.... ......The heart won't remember the burning fire The next time you feel the flame of desire
  • @rogerrrubin .......You loved him stronger than he could feel

But he was wrapped up in himself like an orange peel

Now what you gonna do with the bruise and the blush

What you gonna do when there's no rush

Cop a little misery at the corner store

Well one day that train of pain won't sthrowing up ashes on the floor

If this is a lesson in love, well what's it for

The heart won't remember the burning fire

The next time you feel the flame of desire

  • Woah, this song has a 12 beat phrase that's pretty damn catchy! I came up with a similar riff and thought it was pretty unique. You find it in African music often (check Thomas Mapfumo ), but I never heard a pop song do it so well till now.

  • @tacofreshify Thank you! Your comment prompted me to pick up the ol' Les Paul and I found the beat in the key of C. Outstanding tune! And thanks YouTube, too.

  • GOOSEBUMPS!

  • Evil comes from weakness, irresponsibility end egoism.

  • If men would act like men (and fathers) instead of like selfish children, women could be the mothers and wives they are meant to be... and the children would all be better off.

  • @NikkouDaisuke women have a power over men which they can also use to destroy.

  • @NikkouDaisuke

    So, So True.

  • The small intestine saved GOB.

  • I've made a huge mistake...

  • Thank you, thank you to the Arrested Development fans who posted here. I heard this song right before a concert last night, and I'm sorry to say that I completely forgot what it was from. I love this song, though I kind of forgot about it, and I've been wracking my brain all day trying to remember where I first heard it.

Now I want to watch Arrested Development.

  • @BobaBaggins LOL... this song was stuck in my head all day from Arrested Development to the point where I had to look it up and listen to it.

  • @alspeace

hahah. i just re-watched the episode a few mins ago! Marta's soooo pretty in this episode!!

  • A song that seems to grow every time you hear it- lets hope that our future song writers are taking note note of this brilliant singer/song writer.

  • One of the greatest singer songwriters of our time. This is a wonderful song with a depth of message rarely found in music today. He has been to the places he sings about. I've been there too.

  • Well put! :)

  • Ah, I remember watching this on VH-1 back in the 90's! I forgot all about it. Good tune. :)

  • Amongst the most beautiful tunes of all time.

  • I'm afraid I just blue myself. AD rules!

  • Must we re remembered what a fine song write John Hiatt is?

  • Ive made a huge mistake...

  • I don't remember ever hearing this song before watching AD...I'm so glad I discovered it! "You want your belt to buckle, not your chair..." :)

    Works every time.

  • love this song.

  • nice song, greetings from hamburg germany ;)

  • I'm from LA and Chicago (WXRT loves John). I just dealt with some Midwestern bashing on Facebook from the West (even though I live in Portland). I'm sick of the world thinking Midwesterners are ignorant rednecks. Go Wisconsin. Go Indiana. F*'em Bucky!!!!!!!

  • He used to play austin at least a couple time a year. Great show. Stubb's or La Zona Rosa..10 little indians..is a gem and nowhere to found on youtube.

  • he sends messages in all his songs!

  • Awsome! Very nice!

    Thank you!

  • once again..time to pick up the pieces and move on..dead inside

  • "...I'm....white...I've made a huge mistake."

    Classic A.D.

  • john hiatt is a genius

  • Yeah, he's got a solo acoustic concert and when he does this by himself and his guitar it's just so damn awesome. I heard that first, and then I heard this and was like, what? That's how it sounded first? Hmm...

  • I couldn't agree with you more, trublgrl!! This song was my introduction to John Hiatt...I just had to know all the lyrics and how fantastic and well written they were!! my favorite...."one day the train of pain won't stop no more" and "the heart won't remember the burning fire the next time you feel the flames of desire."....PRICELESS!!!

  • "... but this was a marriage of spirit, of flesh and bone..."

Those are among the saddest lyrics ever written...

A song of love for grownups, and uplifting despite it's sadness. Simply perfect.

  • I used to listen the whole album once and again when i was 21..wasn't for grown ups..i think may smart teenagers understand it..even they are all day with Mosh groups bla bla...Bring the family was John at his peek of his career btw.

  • COME ON!

  • Well, you can't change who you are :)

  • Awesome song I too first heard this on Arrested Development(also awesome) This is now one of my favourite songs ever

  • what a singer! what a player! GREAT!!

  • Love the beginning mandolin section!

  • seen it first on that show "arrested development" thought yeah thats not to bad now i think its cool as fuck

  • yea just watched that episode on hulu. Good show, good song.

  • "Key Decisions"

  • It's great to see Johnny finally getting some of his due. He has been so respected by musicians for so long, It's great to see him get a lil credit.

  • Great song!

  • just saw him in concert last night and he was fantastic!!!

  • this is a beautiful video and a great song!

  • Awesome! I cover this song two when I play. A great and WAAAAYYY overlooked song...Incredible, thanks for this!

  • Is it me, or does it seem like unless someone else sings his songs, everything Hiatt does gets overlooked? I wouldn't have even seen this video if YouTube didn't exist!

  • Some of the more astute among us have discovered him. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm a better person for it.

  • sweet dude. my dads band plays this song lol

  • Male/female commentary? This is great rock and roll you are watching people. Fuck the social commentary. Men have a penis , women have a vagina . Hiatt rules. End of discussion.

  • You sir, are what we call "Spot on"

  • I saw Hiatt for the first time this past Tuesday at Meridian's MSU Riley Center, and he rocked out. you're right, his guitarist was amazing. what john call him, the king of all thing strings? Sweet concert.

  • Just saw John Hiatt last night in Dallas (Grand Praririe actually). What a great show, and I had neevr heard this song before. His guitarist was named Doug Lancio and was simply amazing. I have to go buy some more Hiatt CD's.

  • LOVE THAT MANDOLIN!!!

  • "Wow - the male/female social discussion/drama in the comment body is way more interesting than the song."

Wrong! I am mystified that you would denigrate John Hiatt's obvious talent... This is a truly outstanding song. He is one of the best song writers alive today. Not to mention his amazing voice...

  • Agree!

  • Wow - the male/female social discussion/drama in the comment body is way more interesting than the song.

I will add my mother's favorite response when I complained about shabby treatment..."Once someone shows you who they are, BELIEVE them." We women tend to give too many chances when in reality, we should take the first red flag as a bailout notice, not a sign to give another chance. Move out, move on. This applies to men, too. I've given the same advice to my sons.

  • I love Hiatt's ****-eating grin at the end of the song. As if he knows something that we don't.

  • Yeah...I didn't catch that. Thanx.

  • let me just set the record straight - it's not that women don't respect "nice guys," it's that they don't respect men who are insecure. and a lot of men who are insecure mistake themselves for nice guys, but the fact is that this is not always the case. Either way, if women allow themselves to be deceived, it doesn't "serve them right." No one, not a man or a women, deserves to be treated poorly. Saying a woman deserves to be treated poorly does not make you a nice guy, it makes you a jerk.

  • "If you lay down with dogs, you wake up with fleas." - Benjamin Franklin

I'm just saying that women bring it upon themselves when they choose company that in reality does not respect them.

    * *

"it's not that women don't respect 'nice guys,'it's that they don't respect men who are insecure."

    You're Wrong:

Female columnists for Yahoo conclude that women are "attracted to" "dangerous" guys & "bad boys",(and that nice guys = boring)

    You're in Denial.

Say "Hi" to the next Scot Peterson for me

  • Ok, then I'm in denial.

Can we not make broad generalizations about half the people on the planet? Maybe some women like bad boys, maybe some don't. I don't really care at this point.

My point is, I'm tired of men who complain that women don't appreciate nice guys or men who respect them as if they were nice and respectful men themselves. I find that many of the men I hear complaining say some of the most disrespectful things about women and come across as bitter jerks.

  • "...as if they were nice and respectful men themselves."

Well, that's because Respect is a "two way street"...have you ever heard of it??

When women DO NOT respect nice guys, how long can nice guys sustain that level of abuse?...eventually respect from Nice guy will dry up (because its not returned when its due)

Its called mutual respect (women don't do their part)

    **

Also, It's telling how you didn't respond to the link I sent you in your Personal Messages.

  • You could stop generalizing "women" and you might have a point.

  • I see common ground between us:

I sent you a PM, would you be kind enough to read it, please?

    Thank you.

  • You're both retards.. respectfully of course.. Nice guys, insecure guys, stupid women, who cares... Nice guys do finish last unless they find decent ladies. The problem is they dont want nice girls they want "hot" girls, because they need something pretty to make them feel secure about themselves. But some of the seemingly timid women you see on the bus or walking down the street who normally wouldn't get a second look from most guys can be the most amazing people you could ever meet. One love!

  • Shallowness in the devaluation of worthwhile people is something that both men and women are guilty of...

It really seems that this characterizes the majority of both men and women.

it a great pervasive societal injustice to value someone's human worth & worthiness of social inclusion bases upon her/his level of physical attractiveness (tends to be a rule, not an exception)...

Those who practice it could never understand it as an injustice (unless it happens to them).

  • And I'm going to assume you consider yourself "a nice guy."

I fell for a guy who promised dating jerks wasn't worth it, who in everything he did promised he was different. Guess what....

If I had known how he would treat me, I don't think I ever would have fallen for him. Does it serve me right that I fell for one person and wound up with someone else?

  • I believe your point is that you were decieved, and didn't realize it until after he showed what he was really about.

    response:

There's an old saying: "you can't fool an honest person"...Do you know what that means??

It means whenever someone is deceived it is because they fooled themselves into believing what they WANTED to believe:

Lacey Peterson wanted to believe that Scot Peterson was a nice guy (probably because he was so handsome),its ubiquitous.

Women suffer by their own shallowness.

  • Shall I send you the emails and letters he sent me? What about transcripts of our phone calls? A detailed version of what happened?

  • It became one of my favorite songs after hearing it on Arrested Development.

  • That's why I'm here.

  • same, what's the other song they always play when there are happy moments? it's in key decisions before this one

  • HA! Me too!

Another song is "Gonna get together" by Leroy. Not sure if that's the one you're talking about though.

  • Love this song

  • I like it ! :D

  • After hearing this thousands of times while watching Arrested Development, I had to hear the full song. Good stuff.

  • Exact same thing here!

  • the same thing with me, but don't they use a slightly different version of the song on AD?

  • the 'version' on AD was edited to fit certain points in the show, so it's the same original material but they edited it a bit to highlight certain story points

  • me too, though it sounded a bit diff on the show

  • fk aweome

  • Woke up in a foul mood this morning.

Listened to a bunch of John Hiatt.

    I feel much better now.

  • "The trust of a woman in his hand

But he was a little boy, not a man

You loved him stronger than he could feel

Yeah he was wrapped up in himself like an orange peel."

Those of us for whom these words ring true know a sharp knife couldn't cut any deeper.

I always dug this song especially the "Cry Love" that kicks off the outro (3:28). Then .the song came true for me & I couldn't bear to hear it no more

But Hiatt's so good I had to listen to this youtube.

    The mistakes we make ...
