Agassi and Sampras where in a league of their own, but those years on clay Kuerten was unstoppable. I always thought Kafelnikov was a reag great ternnis player his tecnique was faultless. To get back to Sampras and Agassi I really do believe that on fast courts only the best roger of 2004-2005, was a better player than those two. Sampras was a winner and agassi was a fighter. Djokovic-Nadal and Murray have still alot to proove if they want to eat at the same table..
One thing i've noticed about Agassi is that when a player attacked and he had time he generally liked smack it up the line with little spin instead of dipping it, or hitting cross-court or lobbing. This cost him a lot of points. If he varied his shots more when he was in that position his down the line passing shot would have been more effective as players wouldn't know what he was going to do more often. This is not just against Kafelnikov, i've watched lot of vids and this is a pattern in all.
the thing about this match was that kafelnikov played great but agassi was absolutely brilliant, any other player kafelnikov would have won, that 1st set kafelnikov was awesome, had to play at that level to win a set off agassi.
@raff23 Sampras would have destroyed Kafelnikov if they played. It would have even been more one sided than this since Sampras is a terrible matchup for him, and Sarmpas really should have won his semifinal with Agassi too.
@grafgirl27 im talking about the standard of play during the match, sampras was obviously the better player but its a different type of match to a sampras match.
Agassi was my favorite American tennis player out of Sampras, Blake and Roddick. I do like Roddick though, but Federer , Nadal , Djokovic gives him trouble too much. If he executed his game consistently, he could consistently beat them. He'll get there though. He's the only dude in America on the men side that can possibly win a slam. The William Sisters..continue to be the dominant force for us on the womens (legendary sistas ) anyway..miss u andre...hope we get someone that plays your game.
oh my god...what a match...very powerfull kafelnikov...

I always loved kafelnikov's forehand. Even when I was like 5 years old I recognised how great it was.

@Blakmajik78
I was Yefgeny Kafelnikov fan.
And who won the olympic games in Sydnay 2000?
I am not sure but i think at this time Kafelnikov was also no 1 for a short time!
