I have to agree with commenter mcgocken as well...even though you know the techniques...you need to focus on position and most importantly..."KAMAE"...yoshinkan starts and ends with "KAMAE"...this was sloppy.

I have to agree with commenter mcgocken. The flaws are really evident during the slo-mo sections. Han mi was practically non-existent, posture was poor, and it was all upper body - arms, shoulders and physical strength - absolutely no center being used. I felt sorry for your uke for the pounding he was taking. I certainly wouldn't want to have you as my practice partner. The movements were neither sharp nor economical - you were expending a lot of unnecessary energy. A poor showing, IMHO.
@canajaneh I assume that you have taken aikido? Can you give me your opinion on the effectiveness of aikido in combat/self defense in comparison to wrestling and to muay tai?
3:36 he have it from the first move... dont understand why he did som much turning... i have to say... he got a good flow of the ki... just need a little bit of economy on his own ki
This is a good video Im a black Belt in karate and i have a red sash in kung fu and i want to learn aikido i also have been doing alot of boxing but i like this really like to learn
Nice video dude. I am considering studying Aikido. I have a black belt in Traditional TaeKwonDo ITF, and I just think you can never stop learning, i'm open to all different kinds of martial arts. How long did it take you to reach your black belt level in Aikido? What is the typical rank system? Keep up the good work man, best of luck.
Nice to see someone from another martial art with an open mind/viewpoint for a change. I'm black belt in aikido and am learning tai-chi and iaido at the mo. Would do more, but the family won't let me :) Train hard and train well!
I just want to be as good as you, one day mcgocken. Thanks for the inspiring comments and the low rating you internet troll. Now go wipe the semen out of your bellybutton.
your performance is wonderful in the video. be just as impressive with your words and follow the spirit of the art and not stoop to mcgocken's level. you're better than that.
@gpike82 *Snort* Giggle! You've got great control. Very smooth and fluid. You do not hesitate in your transitions. You have no desire to hurt your foe, as is demonstrated with the way you handle the uke. I hope you got your up in rank. You certainly appeared to have earned it! Keep climbing, I look forward to seeing more footage of you! :-)
@mcgocken There should always be force.....a time to give force and a time to borrow force...either way force must always be present in any practice as in any real fight. Get in a few real fights and you will learn this. I have been in the martial arts for 34 years and have been in more than my share of fights. Manipulation of force and of course the timing to do so. Cudos to this fellow for practicing, it's a tough world out there.
It's a pleasure to see such a good level at a shodan exam. You're constantly moving and playing with your uke and I absolutely loved the way you switch from pins to throws with ease.
Thanks for your kind words, Roy. I remember stumbling upon your site last year. You have some great stuff going on. I am thinking about cross training in BJJ or Yoga, as well. I have some grappling exp. I see that you already do this at your dojo. Aikido, BJJ, and Yoga make up the pyramid of the most spiritual arts in my opinion. I love it. Cheers.

mcgocken is spot on. More Kusushi!
Most of the time Uke is standing in good posture waiting for you to renter.
You are making an amazing amount of hard work for yourself.
You have a good memory for Kata though.
Judging by your reply to mcgocken you may never quite get it.

Hi!
Don't want to sound condescending, but you need to work on using less of your arms and muscle. Move the hips, the body follows. ^_^

well that was interesting! Thanks al lot for sharing

both of them a good, Aikido is more about self defense and BJJ is more about free sparing, I think is good to combine both.

Which is better? Aikido or BJJ?
tomwalker389 2 years ago
wow... been there before.. and the atmosphere usually a bit stressful... questioning yourself are you ready or not for the exam...
and you made it through... nicely, i should say. strong movement. that's usually what the examiner want to see from their 1st kyu students...
