  • He doesn't get eaten or attacked in this part, does he?

  • Each guy has his individual talents. Quint is the hardcore fisherman, Hooper the scientist, and Brody is the cop from New York who uses quick thinking

  • I NEVER knew they used a midget in the cage to make the shark look bigger! Saw it on a special i watched about the movie, and the lil midget guy actually had a heart attack because it was so scary. poor lil guy

  • Funny how such three different guys can be brought together through the camaraderie of building something (like a shark cage).

  • Jaws will always be my favorite movie not just for the fact that it is such an entertaining movie and such a great tale. But because it has such realistic characters with such great characterization. A rare example of a movie thats better then the novel. This scene displays Quint coming to terms with his failure and finally turning to Hooper for help, a person he belittled for most of the movie. You just dont get scenes like this anymore with todays films.

  • I think it's funny that Peter Benchley (the author of the novel) said that had he known about the natural behavior of sharks he would have never written Jaws. lol But that's cool we got an awesome book and movie out of it. I think in the book Hooper is the one who dies and not Quint.

  • @neo942007

actually in the book quint AND hooper get killed and brody is the only survivor. They changed this so that hooper would live and they would have a happy ending. (except for quint)

  • this scene makes me cringe!

  • Ive read the book many times over the years and one thing they left out of the movie which kind of bugs me is the woman in the post office who beleives the shark was sent by god to punish the people of Amity for their sins. Seems like it added an interesting subplot.

  • @mercmarc

That was not in the book!

  • @StaffordC88 you must have missed it if you want i will actually find the page number for you.

  • It is amazing how much the music adds to a movie, you really dont see that in modern movies. For that matter when was the last movie made that could honestly be called a classic?

  • This is the most badass combination of music and screenplay I've ever seen in any movie - with the exception of "The Throne Room" final scene in "Star Wars" (another Williams score). The latter is a "triumphant" score that's yet done in a MINOR key (VERY unusual and very effective). This is a "determined, on-the-hunt, last resort" serious soundtrack.

  • Broody was right about the cage.....

  • When the shark swam by the cage where were the ropes and barrels?

  • @mercmarc

    Good question. Obviously a goof.

  • " I think that I am familiar with the fact that you are going to ignore this particular problem until it swims up and BITES YOU ON THE ASS!"

    My all time fav line!!

  • look at the size of that thing

  • That's no great white. That's a megalodon

  • the music is awesome

  • at 3:22 when the shark is swimming by my aunt told me that when the shark swam by it was a real great white

  • In the book he gets eaten in the cage. He also was banging the chiefs wife. Little karma for ya.

  • @mercmarc I always thought that Jaws was a rare instance of a movie being better than the book it was based on. There were so many stupid soap opera subplots in the book. I like the relationship between Brody and Hooper in the movie

  • Funny, that big cage was nowhere to be seen on the boat before they put it together.

  • @mercmarc yes it was... have you seen the film?

  • @mercmarc Are u blind, its always been located on the side of the boat in every scene.

  • @aka33PIPPEN No if u look you see only two pieces of it.

  • the real shark at 4:04 looks competly different to the fake shark that appears in the rest of the film its mouth was much smaller and head alot wider LOL!

  • Yeah. Apparently, during production they sent some guys to a shark hotspot and they got some footage of sharks by shark tanks.

Here's another fun fact! The only reason Richard Dreyfuss was kept alive in the movie instead of being eaten was because they had some GREAT shark footage that they desperately wanted to to use, but the shot had no one in the cage. So they had him escape instead of being eaten.

  • Yep, they used footage with a real white shark with a smaller cage, half that a normal cage.

They did so for the real shark appear bigger than it was in fact and be more like the size of the fake shark.

All the footage with the real shark was filmed in Australia by the famous divers Ron and Valerie Taylor.

When i was child i also thought that the real shark was the fake lol.

  • i saw that when i was like.. 5 years old..

scarred the crap out of me xD

  • Hooper says he can pump 20ccs of strictnine nitrate into the shark..

Wat does it actually do? Isit a type of sedative or poison?

  • 4:05 the fake shark looks like a real great white

  • Because that actually was film of a real shark.

  • Robert Shaw should have got an oscar here. He was the Ahab that Peck never was. He's scarier than the shark which was the intent..

  • The premis of alien.

  • What a stunning movie. Get scared. Get Very scared.. when the best expert is ran out. of them..and you're nowhere...best scarey film ever.......matched?

  • Dreyfuss came to my school today to talk about civics education and duty.

It was pretty intense, and very thought-provoking.

Not sure I agree with everything he said, though. At all, actually.

  • I read somewhere that that Scene was done in a Swimming pool and some scenes such as the shark before he attacked the cage was actually a real shark that someone filmed Jaws will always be one of my favorite films

  • His undies come off there!

  • 3:00 my favorite part of the movie

  • Robert Shaw is Koool!

  • This has to be the #1 fear for any underwater diver whom thinks that anti-shark cages can protect them from the Ocean's #1 predator. There already have been 2 videos on YouTube, that have seen Great Whites smash the protective cages and come close to killing the divers inside.

  • the three S's in JAWS.

    Scheider

    Shaw

    Spielberg

  • One of my favorite part of the movie

  • why do divers spit in their masks?

  • the spit helps the mask from fogging.

  • i cant even fathom the terror if it were me in there. i would SHAT big time

  • i simply love the subtle backing up of Hooper in the cage at 3:13.. such a small movement that conveyed his sheer amount of terror and awe as brucie swims by and thinks "alright, i just have to bite it open.."

  • this is my favourite scene in the movie.the john williams score is superb and really adds so much more as hooper is fighting for his life.

  • Finally,Quint the great hunter shark can't do anything against the monster ; Hooper try to kill the beast and at the end that's chief Brody to do the job.

  • this is my favorite scene and my favorite movie

  • I love the song when the shark passes by him.

  • Me to. If you ask me I think the Jaws theme inspired the horror themes for the villains right before they attack, or when they are around.

  • This movie rules, Roy, Robert, and Richard are soooo good.

  • In the Book, Hooper is humping the Chiefs' wife. He swims to shore alone. He doesn't seem to mind Hoopers death.

  • Quint stole the whole movie, and his charachter was simply the best....!

  • "I got no spit"...great line haha

  • ýou,ve got any better suggestions?" next scene > building the cage soooo funny and good

  • i love the song when they are building up the cage

  • Thats an amazing song

  • Quint stole the whole movie, and his charachter was simply the best....!

  • agreed

  • i love this scene! JAWS RULES!

  • crazy thing is that's footage of a real shark destroying the cage. They used a small cage and a mannequin/short person to make the shark look bigger. it got caught in the rope and destroyed the cage. The short person refused to go back in. Ha

  • Dick Warlock was a midget stuntman used in the scenes you are referring to. Some of the scenes, however, were used with the fake shark. I grew up in Daytona and was there that summer this came out. My marine biology teacher made us study the reali vs. unreal scenes of this movie.
