  • thanks man you rock

    :)

  • I have a question: Will this guide work for my phone if mine was originally a phone from WIND MOBILE (from Canada)? The phone has been unlocked to work with my provider (mobilicity), will that effect the process?

I'm computer illiterate and this seems extremely hard, I don't know if I should do it but I'd love to upgrade the phone to make it faster and put it's decent specs to use.

  • @Has1b I can't guarantee it, but I think it will.

  • Es funktioniert tadellos in DEUTSCH! Die Anleitung ist kinderleicht, DANKE/THANKS an Dexter und den VIDEOMAN!!

  • i am looking for the dexter froyo zip file in order to upgrade my xt720 which is currently on 2.1

  • @danielvdwful I have updated the video description to include a link to Dexter's original ROM.

  • where can i download the flash as when i go to restore it does not give me an option of what to restore

  • @danielvdwful I don't understand what you are asking for. Are you looking for an sbf file, or a zip file?

  • Thank you man, you just made my day !!!!! WORKS IN GERMAN!

  • Don't update now i can't install app :/

  • Hey , does everything work in this rom, like camera at 8mp, fm radio, and all??? what doesnt work, thanks!

  • can i upgrade my xt701 exactly like this!!! cause i want flash from 2.2 android version!!!!

  • @mishu28nmv I cannot advise on xt701.

  • @reverendkjr i tried this for my xt701 but it is stucked at M logo? Some advice?

  • @mishu28nmv I'm sorry. I have no idea how the xt701 would handle these builds. They are intended for the xt720 and I have no knowledge on the xt701.

  • @mishu28nmv I have no idea how the xt701 would handle these builds. They are intended for the xt720 and I have no knowledge on the xt701.

  • Will this rom allow us to use Adobe Flash?

  • @Gamebreaker08 Flash works.

  • @reverendkjr OMG it worked, dude I followed you instructions exactly and it worked!! Thank You so much will be subscribing!!!

  • can anyone tell me if this works with the wind version or is it only for the cincinati bell version?

  • @abdulrsno1 It should, but I don't want to guarantee it.

  • @abdulrsno1 works with wind :D

  • hey dude.My battery life is terrible

  • yes i did it!! thank you thank you!!! thank you!!

  • I've noticed you've tested a few different mods on your xt720. Which one do you feel is the best? I got an xt720 online, and it came with motorola stock firmware, 2.1. I flashed it to Cincinatti Bell's 2.2 (even though I'm not a Cincinatti bell customer, it works fine). In my opinion, it took a performance hit after that, ran slower and had less battery life. Anyways, out of all the mods and updates you've tried, which would you reccomend as far as performance and features?

  • @fredtorrey I use Cyanogenmod 6.3 from XDA. seems to be the most stable

  • @reverendkjr Thanks for the pointer. I flashed my phone to Cyanogen 6.3 on Friday, and it's such a great update. The phone seems faster, and battery life has about doubled.

  • @reverendkjr I just received a new xt720, I am thinking of doing the dexter 2.2 mod and then rooting it. Is there an advantage of using Cyangenmod 6.3 instead or are they basically the same? thanks

  • It worked like a charm, thanks for this tutorial!

  • Thank you very much, it works great. This is the only clear tutorial which actually works I really appreciate your work. I just have a question, why tethering is not under "Wireless & networks > Tethering & portable hotspot" section? did I miss something??

  • and i never used rsd lite or flashing, my computer would never find my device i installed my update zip from the clockwork mod i seen on your tablet.

  • this froyo 2.2 first try it took about a day and a half.. most time spent reasearching. but its by bugless beast is anyone fimilar and am i up to date with just 2.2? ive only found one bug for some reason i cant send pictures? how can i fix it? i can upload pics to fb and everything but it wont send them to numbers it just says seending.. but also i found a fast and easy one click app for rooting its called easy root. search it on google on ur phone and install it. fastest root ive found.

  • okay im new at the whole android hacking deal.. but im for sure not dumb.. i installed

  • it's works on my phone!! the starhub version!!

  • I click in Root and the application cannot find my device. Why?

  • your the man!!!!!!!!!! thank you !!!!!!!!!!

It was so easy step by step loved this tutorial !!!!!!!!

If you can, can you make one on how to overclock it.

  • GREAT success! i have this new android 2.2 now ! It looks like a new phone now and i dont wanna switch a new phone anymore. THANKS ALOT!

  • Can you switch the language to german after installing froyo ??

  • android 2.3. para Motorola Xt720.??

  • So superoneclick is now working but the Recovery Boot always results with a triangle error. I never get the nandroid options to work with.

  • These instructions don't even make sense. As soon as I go into Portals and Tools I no longer have access to the root files anymore!

  • I hit 'Root'..it gets to 'pushing rageagainstthecage...' and never goes further

  • how can I uninstall dexter's froyo???

  • Thanks! worked like a charm

  • great! thank you!

  • Hi!

I have done everything as in this video, all works great. But this motorola navigation app- motonov- I can find in my app list, the same is with google maps. What I have to do if I want these programms back?

And I cant download google maps from android market because they say that it cannot be instal to my phone.

    thanks.

  • Awesome video! Now running Froyo on my Videotron xt720. just had to update my APN...

  • nice tutorial.. works like charm..i intalled it to my SKT Motoroi XT720.. btw, the T logo is the SKT logo..

  • My device Now have scored 866 in Quadrant test (whithout any overcking, just after installing Dexter's froyo 2.2.1 v 1.3).

it's 2 times more performance :D So my advice to everybody is to install this rom!

  • Thanks a lot! Everything works great!!! :)))))))

  • putin...merci man!

  • hey. your videos are great, thanks for doing all the work, i do have one question though. From your experience what is one rom you'd recommend - right know im on stock 2.1 and i read that 2.2 is faster & more efficient but even official pacific bell is missing heptic feedback, so really its far from official 'official' if you know what i mean. so i guess my question is - for someone who just wants to use the phone & play games from time to time - what is the best rom atm?

  • thanks a lot man, your video helped so much

  • Could someone help I currently have a Samsung captivate I was considering getting this phone what is your opinion please.

  • what does this do to the phone

  • I solved the MD5 mismatch problem by:

    1. Downloading a new version of the Dexter Froyo package

    2. Deleting everything from the SD card

    3. Re-adding Froyo package to SD Card

    4. Using Astro File Manager to delete remnants of SD card, leaving only the Froyo packages.

After those steps, repeating the process in the video above worked like a charm. To be honest, I'm not sure why re-downloading the package helped, but it did.

    Excellent tutorial, reverendkjr.

  • OMG...you are amazing...thank you very much...I did it...works like a charm...the camera works better and faster, now I can move the apps to the sd, the gallery loads faster, I cant believe how fast it was to install...easy...you turned my phone in to a new one...

  • YOU ARE A GENIUS MAN REALLY THANXS

    WORKED 100% FINE

  • Hi, Can anyone help me?, I bought my phone on Amazon, came with android 2.1, my phone its unlocked, If I update to 2.2 the phone will remain unlocked?...Thanks.

  • @ManuelValdez99 it dosnt have nothing to do with the software the unlock its unlocked via imei so it will remain unlocked believe me i had the same doubt as you but i didint and everything worked fine. its amazing froyo on milestone

  • Thanks so much had zero problems, 2.1 to 2.2 is a huge leap in functionality it breathe new life into my mobile phone. To anyone thinking about do this update I say go for it as the reward is greatly worth the risk. Thanks again for the tutorial

  • please help!!

when I try to do Install Recovery system (8:58), the button just stays red, and the phone does not proceed to the message saying "Install Success", I am not sure what to do

  • @bmm1793 nevermind it just worked! thank you very much over every random guide i've ever watched this one is the best!

  • i install this, but my phone don`t exit the screen of dexter`s...

  • Hi, Im from Mexico, Its unlocked, if I do the process my phone will still Unlocked?...I bought the phone from Amazon. Thanks...

  • Thanks for the awesome guide dude , I'm happily using my android 2.2 now !

Just to share some mistakes I did during my process.

During Rooting i din't have the XT720 CD driver with me. But later I found out that the driver is downloadable through the moto website .

then. During the restore in the system recovery menu , remember to place to nandroid file at the top of your SD card . to make sure the system recovery can find the file .

  • Does that mean I can get adobe flash player 10.1 for this?

  • @storm7052 Yes!

  • thank you so much for the help. it works!

  • Video is grate. Done the job in 10 minutes. Thanks man.

  • I can't root my phone?!?

  • Thanks a lot for your effort! Worked like a charm - would have been lost without your thorough instructions!!!

  • If i attempt to get 2.2...and should it go wrong, is there a way to restore my phone back to 2.1.

I am new to this and not 100% confident

  • @a2zxyz Doing all of the steps EXCEPT one with result in the phone not coming up. do ALL of the steps if you want this to work successfully. EVERY step is needed.

  • @reverendkjr when im tryin to root it it says windows need to install driver for adb interface but after it says put the driver cd in but i aint no cd...what should i do ?

  • Its works!!! thanks :D with this installation, can we still use the update firmware in the setting system?

  • i guess i did screw up my phone :( i just boot my phone first and then on SD card delete all files not ., SD card doesnt reload again :( please help!!!

  • it doesnt do anything when i hit recovery boot. whats the problem?

  • @b22chris Make sure you install first, then recovery boot. If it still doesn't do anything, then you must have done something else wrong. Start over and try again.

  • Works excellent! Thank you alot!

  • i can't explain how grateful i am! THANK YOU!

  • Hi, I have had my phone for 6 months so I have alot of apps. Is there any way I can transfer the apps I have in stock 2.1 to dexter's 2.2 without redownloading them all?

  • with this can i save apps and stuff to my sd card?

also sorry if you have answered this already i watched the vid a few days ago but i cant remember and i havnt watched it now cause im capped but can you restore all the stock settings if you want to?

  • where can i download the nandroid?

  • If Dexter's Froyo is official?

That what I'm worrying about, since I'm worrying about that I'm not gone endeavor the method.

    Nice video though! =)

  • For some reason in the backup of the nandroid folder im get two files

    OR-BWLldSDCcr-20110306-2346

    OR-BWLldSDCcr-20110306-2356

    why?

  • @asd3bunny If I had to guess, it looks like you made two backups of your current system, both on March 6th, 2011 at 23:46PM and 23:56PM. But that is just a guess. I do not have these files in any of my directories.

  • @reverendkjr thanks but how come stock 22 doesnt come up.

  • @asd3bunny Sounds to me like you didn't follow the instructions correctly. You may want to watch the video again.

  • Hey! i am currently using dexters froyo v1.2 on my xt720. I just got the link for v1.3. Now I am unclear on how to flash the new version. Can you please tell me excatly how to do so? Do i have to go back to the stock version and flash it again or do I just add the new file into the root my of sd card and follow the same steps? does it require a hard reset? please let me know. Thanks

  • @jimit21 You are able to just add the 1.3 files to the nandroid directory, boot into openrecovery, and select to load this one. You do not have to flash back to stock 2.1, but you can if you want. Either way, it will work. and YES, you do have to reset data and cache. Every flash should have a reset.

  • @reverendkjr how i do boot into openrecovery?

  • Thank u so much works like a charm

  • hhelp - when i switch to portal & tools, my computer sees the phone as an 'MTP Device' what am i doing wrong?

  • @jdurham67 Not sure. You may want to try loading the Motorola drivers for the phone to see if that helps. Or, you may have a driver already loaded that is conflicting. I have not seen that before.

  • I can get to websites fine over wifi. but when i just use the 3g it gives me that error

I created an APN per Cincinnati bells website.

  • @krzyinsane You should not have had to create an APN. After every flash that I have done, my 3G just worked without me having to enter an APN.

  • Thank you very much!! It works perfectly fine...

  • Thank you very much!! It works perfectly fine...

  • Do I need to partition SD card: 1GB ext3 for apps2sd or not?

  • @jackfrost3821 Yes.

  • Hey Kyle,

Did you have any issues with the with the stock browser on dexter's 2.2?

I'm on CBW too. Every website i go to tells me i don't have access and it gives me an apache server error.

  • @krzyinsane Apache error seems like it would be a problem with whoever is hosting the site, not your device. I have not experienced this problem.

  • noob question: what steps do i take if I want to install the wanted rom?

  • @mmadabattula Same process, just use his rom file in the nandroid directory instead of Dexter's.

  • @paradox1979 There's no "nandroid directory" in the wanted 1.2 file though. :S

  • @mmadabattula I'm sorry. You will want to download a full ROM from Dexter and then REPLACE the nandroid contents with wanted ROM files.

  • @reverendkjr oh i see. thanks!

  • What's the benchmark?

  • @Lhoizae I have since moved on to version 1.3 of Dexter's ROM. Using Milestone Overclock to 1Ghz, and also tweaking a graphic lib file, I was able to achieve a 1492 in quadrant and a 14.0 in linpack. :)

  • @reverendkjr Thanks for tour response, those are nice scores.

  • @Lhoizae: How to tweak the graphic lib file?

  • Will this update work on Canadian version of this phone. My phone's S/W version is STR_U2_01.1E.0 and my Baseband version ends with .5BI. Any help would be appreciated.

  • @sabih1856 I don't see why not. If your phone says Milestone XT720, then these steps work.

  • Hi, thank you for this awesome video! thanks alot.... can you plz explain how patches can be installed on XT720?

  • @sohrabseyad I'm planning on doing a few more videos, one of them will describe how to add update scripts.

  • If I want to install the Blur, do I follow the same steps?

  • @mmadabattula Yup.

  • Thank you for the video, and for the custom ROM. It worked perfectly for me. I see that there is a 1.2b patch (by Dexter) on xda developers and wondered if there's a video on what to do to get the patch loaded or if it's even necessary, since my phone seems to be fine. Thank you.

  • hey hi...

i m shri from india.. m using motorola milestone xt720. can i do the same thing with my fhone. and will this allow me to install application to SD card..??? and from where can i download the *files* that has to be placed inside the SD card at the starting.

    thank you

  • Does the subsidy lock remain intact following this procedure? Thanks!

  • @mec31 I do not believe this effects the subsidy lock.

  • oh yeah and where do i find dexters froyo to download and use?

  • @dkmelancon The link to the forum is in the description.

  • thanks for the help, i had a few questions, i hear you talking about "Cincinnati Bell" im not too sure what that is or means, im in Louisiana and my provider is centennial wireless does that matter? as long as i got my phone in the states this should work correct? im a super noob to this. thanks in advance.

  • @dkmelancon Cincinnati Bell is a regional provider. There are only a few providers that offer this phone, Cincinnati Bell just happens to be the one in my area. If it makes it easier for you to understand, everytime I refer to Cincinnati Bell, just pretend like I'm saying Centennial Wireless. :)

  • Hi thanks for that advice but I don't understand what reflash back to original SBF means? I think I will just bring it down to the service centre and see what they can do for me cause my phone's still under warranty

  • Is there any way to get past the boot looping so I can go into recovery boot from superuser? Everything was going so smoothly until I decided to wait to delete my data at a later time... I didn't know I shouldn't have done that...

  • @sfdude91 Unfortunately, you may have to reflash the phone back to the original SBF to resolve. I am in the process of creating a tutorial for this process, but I have not completed it yet. You can wait for it, or try to find info on your own.

  • ah I cannot already... the screen just keep looping at the T logo! how please help me I'm starting to panic

  • Hi something's wrong with my phone and I was wondering if you know how to solve it... I didn't do the last step of deleting all my data because I figured maybe I could back up some stuff and then do that later so I just turned off my phone after the 10:41 time in your video, and then I turned it on again, thereafter it just shows the T flashing symbol on and off and nothing else happens... Please help!!

  • @sfdude91 Go back and follow the instructions. If you don't reset/wipe the data... you get boot looping.

  • Hi! I have a problem here and was wondering if you know how to solve it... I did not do the last part of deleting all my data because I was hoping to back up some stuff first before coming back to do that step again. so I just powered off the phone and turned it back on... Now it keeps showing the T symbol flashing and not loading anything else do you know what's happening?

  • Why do the rooting via SuperOneClick? That's only for Windows. You can more easily root the phone if you just install Universal Androot from the Market on your XT720 2.1, opening it and then hit the Root-button.

Nice video though, love the 2.2 on my XT720 :) (I'm Vistaus on XDA)

  • @djmusic121 I did it this way because this is a tutorial on how to do Dexter's process, not my own. there are many ways to root your phone, but this was the one Dexter chose to include with his package. this tutorial was intended for those people who only have novice level of android knowledge, but don't want to be left out. Cheers!

  • can i request u to make a video for a walkthrough for the phone?for example the using of adobe flash in the web browser and the app to sd and also the working of xenon flash in the camera.Thnx!

  • million thx!!!!!!!!!

xt720 user from hong kong ;)

  • If you want to flash back to the regular Cincinnati Bell Factory ROM, you would just use RSD Lite and flash the SBF file. I am planning on doing a video tutorial for that as well, very soon.

  • @reverendkjr Thanks again. Where do I download the RSD Lite for the Cincy Phone. Is there a good tutorial anywhere?

Also, will upgrading this Froyo on this phone help with the issue of being able to install apps on the SIM card. My girlfriend just got this phone and is very unhappy that she can't download more than about 20 apps. Your video makes this process quite easy and hoping it will fix this problem.

    Thanks again for the help

  • Great Video. Very very helpful for a newbie like me. Just for my help, how would I go about restoring back to the original Cincy Bell factory software after I do this? Thanks in advance for the help

  • To clarify the question on 3G bands. I can assure you that the 1700/2100 bands are working just fine. Cincinnati Bell uses T-Mobile's 3G bands, which along with most of the world, uses 1700/2100 bands. The speculation about the Korean ROM not including these bands was either wrong, or Dexter did something to fix it. Either way, you should have no concern about this. Happy Flashing!

  • Can you please confirm one thing, I read in some forums that if you attempt to upgrade to Froyo on xt720, it will get rid of the 1700 band....i have the asian brand of the phone, not the Cinicnnati Bell one. Can anyone please confirm this for me? Im running tmobile 3g on this phone and dont want to mess that up if I move to 2.2. Thank you so much for the upload.
