Theroom, I would suggest using a product called General Finishes Gel Topcoat.
It is a wipe on urethane and is easy to use also only available in satin. This is easier than rubbing steel wool and the texture left on your furniture is unmatched. This product drys intentionally to a tack in 15 minutes so that dust and debris in the air will not stick to your finish. You should apply with a white cotton t-shirt. (Hanes/ Fruit of the loom)
Does the varnish weather proof the wood? Sorry if thats a dumb question im a metal worker not wood lol
