for intitial boost, you hold down the 2 button when the number 2 is about to disappear form the screen. if this doesn't work then hold it the second the number 2 is about to turn transparent slightly, idk. don't tap the button at ALL until the number 2 time or you'll get "busted (my friend's term for getting the broken car for 2-3 seconds)"

press the uhhh button were you drive with

and press it on when the counter says 2

then hold it till 3 and you would get a fast start :) hoped i helped :)

If you are using the a Gamecube Controller you use R to drift, and If you are using the Wii controller I think it is B.
