I think most people would consider these cars exspensive, and the thought of using a classic auto in this way make me cring.......I don't think they were meant to claw their way up a muddy trail hell bent for leather...nope, that's Jeep.
Actually, many old cars are actually quite capable on muddy roads, since the roads that were around when they were build, was often pretty bad. Asphalt roads haven't been around all that long.
what people dont realize is that when these cars were made paved roads were few and far between so they are fairly decent offroad and you dont need fourwheel drive to offroad if you are a good driver
Now thats what I want seeing cars like that do! To think those cars up till the 30's were made in a world where good roads were just as rare as the cars. Thats why they have those Large Diameter Wheels and High ride height.
I was brought up with old cars, to me it's always been about enjoyment, not sealing them up in a bank vault as an investment. They might as well be in a scrapyard if they're not being used!
Put another way, you get to marry the movie actress / model / singer of your dreams; you wouldn't spend your wedding night sleeping on the couch would you?
There seems to be a misapprehension amongst certain people that these cars are enormously expensive. They're not. And the engineering of them is simple and rugged. This kind of treatment merely makes the car dirty. Don't worry - it washes off again.
@toadabc Oh for sure, it may indeed be that much - but in a world where cars can be valued in the millions and a car purpose built for sporting trials can easily exceed that sort of money, and where the majority of very ordinary cars (certainly here in the UK) can exceed that sort of money too, that would still represent a relatively inexpensive machine. Cars are meant to be driven and I hate to see a car gathering dust. This is a simple and rugged car that can easily be fixed.

This isn´t exactly the most apropriatte behavior driving an classic old Bentley, there are better roads to do it, there also better (and less expensive) cars for off-road pratice.
Better to see them in action than to see them gathering dust! Bentley in particular have a sporting tradition. And if the car gets dented or a mechanical component breaks, you fix it. If the component isn't available, you make it.
No worse that cutting up a nice rare Z-28 Camaro for the drag strip here in the USA!

@KeeperOfTheKitten What do you mean by "not... enormously expensive"? I would imagine $20,000.-$30,000. US dollars here.
