That 2nd to 3rd shift should not be harsh. You should definitely feel it a lot more than the 1st to 2nd or the 3rd to 4th shifts, so it will be more positive, but not harsh, except maybe under hard acceleration.
That's a '64 with the last of the Dual Coupline Hydra-Matics, I'll bet. You can modify the coupling fill-drain rates to make 1-2 and 3-4 "firmer" and have less slippage, but it's a BIG job.
hey bud my car originally came with the slim jim, rather strange shifting tranny if your used to a turbo 400,and yes my tranny never came in a gp, i had to modify the tranny hump a bit, wasnt this also called a super hydro matic?

Greetings, where in NY are you? I have a 62 Starfire convert, and I am looking for a local "slim jim" expert to rebuild my unit. Any Info?
Thank you

The G.P. has the Roto (Slim Jim). Its a different tranny then the 4 speed used in Caddys and in Bonevilles..
The Slim Jim will go like hell when it wants too. I had one with a 421.

In this video driving slow it shifts at 10, 20, and 35 mph
1st to 2nd you cant barley feel or hear about 10 mph.
2nd to 3rd A harsh shift (about 20 to 35 mph), This is normal & you will definatly feel this.
3rd to 4th (about 35 to 50 mph) you cant barley feel or hear
