  • I distinctly remember watching this a number of times when the TV stations had signed off for the night. Thank you for the wonderful nostalgia!

  • What is this song called, & who recorded it? I've tried to google the lyrics, & nothing comes up.

  • @CGAWLEY I just found out the singer's name is Sharon Lee Williams, but if anyone out there can still let me know what thet title of the song is, & if she has an album that I could purchase, it would be greatly appreciated. :-)

  • Thank you so much for sharing, the audio and picture is soo clear, again thanks so much! I used to watch this show when I was very young :) have a great day! :)

  • I wonder if that neon art at 2:40 is still there in the basement of the convention centre?

  • I remember stumbling across this a few times when I was a kid. It doesn't get any more 80s than this...thank you for the memories! :)

  • Always loved this night owl program back in 1980's. I called the station in the early 1990's to try and get a high def copy, but it wasn't available. Nice folks at Global Television Network though. Thanks for posting.

  • I'm glad to have stumbled onto your channel, Retrontario. A lot of old time memories are coming back to mind.

I've actually been trying to purchase the program for my grandfather who lived here in Canada during the 80s. He's moved home to South America and asked me to see if I could get a copy for him. I'll let you know what I find out.

  • I have a memory of watching these segments late at night when I couldn't sleep. Very cool!

  • Gotta love those old streaky tube cameras! Even with a steadycam, those old BetacamSP's must have been rather cumbersome.

  • What a great way to fufill the Cancon

obligation! Izzy, you were a genius!

  • Oh my god! Not just any Night Moves. But this one in particular brings back memories. I was woken up by a terrible thunderstorm in Shelburne, Ontario. My parents were still watching television and this segment was on with this specific song in the background. To this day, this segment remeinds me of staying up a bit during that thunderstorm that terrified me and hearing this song while the footage played,

    :)

  • @Eyes11

I realise that this is a reply to an ooooooold comment, but still...

Isn't it weird how little things like that stick with you. I, being British, never saw this - or anything like it for that matter! I really like it though. It's weirdly soothing. Definitely has a weird, dreamlike atmosphere to it.

Was this a regular thing? I notice a few more like "night drive"? People on other vids keep going on about prisoners quite a lot too, not quite sure what to make of it haha.

  • you know, im really tempted to bust out the "poor man's steadicam" and make my own "Night Moves"

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Night Moves inspired me to make my own video (years ago, now thankfully lost) of the nightlife in Waterloo. It didn't turn out half bad -- putting smooth jazz over almost any video forgives all sins. I'm looking forward to any more, if you're able. Thanks again.

  • Thanks a bunch, Retrontario!

This is without a doubt the best series you've EVER POSTED! Nobody else has this type of footage!

I thoroughly enjoyed this series when I was a kid, mostly because it was nice, but completely bizarre at the same time.

I thought it was some sort of secret broadcast or something coming straight to my house! :)

I mean, who thinks of walking around downtown Toronto with a camera and putting light vocal jazz on top of it? :)

If you have more, keep it coming!

  • @blizzardkb thinking back to the 80s the video equipment were not as small as they are today so just to imagine the weight and bulk one had to carry around just makes it all that much more special. During the broadcasting I would be waking up for hockey so needless to say I didn't get to watch the whole show but man, I do love every precious moment that I did; and watching it now that I'm an adult just makes a joyful tear to my eye. Great times -- thank you for the trip down memory lane.

  • @supercooled Nowadays, your everyday camcorder costing $400 bucks fitting into the palm of your hand combined with Windows Movie Maker preinstalled on most of today's PCs could be used by almost anybody to create the exact equivalent of this stuff.

  • Thank you so much for posting this!! I really appreciate it! Now I can get my daily fix of Night Ride and Night Moves. All that is missing is Night Walk and the collection will be complete!! Why global doesn't air this anymore is a mystery to me. This show was so good! Well at least we can view it on here thanks to Retronatrio!! Thanks Again!!

  • My God, I LOVED watching this! Sometimes it was all that kept me sane at 3am.

  • That was interesting seeing the north building of the convention centre. Too bad the camera did not continue down that last bit of hallway so I could see if the escalator up to the top level was there - or even if the hallway doors to the hotel were there then. I am assuming that work on the south building, at least, was not even a thought at that time. Trying to imagine it full of people for Fan Expo! :)

  • Last time I was in Toronto eight years ago, I stayed at the Crowne Plaza on Front right next to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. It looked not much different than it did from this footage.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. It would be nice if they still aired it instead of junk infomercials, but it's all about money today. Please bring more more more! Thanks again from a fellow Ontarian.

  • please keep posting these!!! Never thought I'd see them again after all these years.
