  • Misleading title, for shame.

  • I hella love Oakland too!

That seemed like a nice piece of paneling.

If you're going to paint it, why not use masonite?

    It's cheaper & light.

  • WTF...! ! !

  • Thank you so much for this simple and quick tutorial. I was able to build the needed flats for my daughters production because of your little video. Thanks again.

  • I don't use glue on hard hollywood flats. It gets in the way when I am tearing it apart two shows later to build something else on a budget crunch. Recycling.

  • You guys should really be using staples instead of screws. With 1x4 (or 1x3's, as you use), screws have a high likely-hood of splitting the wood, which means strength is compromised.

  • you do realize that none of your flats are SQUARE right. a flat should always be square and a standard 4x8 sheet is ALWAYS the right size. Measure and check i promise your flats will not be a true 4x8. Next time you start measure your sheet of quarter ply and you will see it IS a true 4x8. I would think that a factory would get it right. It is only their job right? If you have to shave off extra wood you did not build it right!

  • @smartguy5142 We're a college theatre company, not a factory. But thanks for playing.

  • measure twice cut once :P

  • @standandyliver07 This video was actually filmed by the folks who often took the role of master carpenter in our college's theatre.

  • total bollox! Carpenter my fat arse!

  • we use 1x4 when we make flats.

  • Great but you don't need to be a "Master Carpenter" to do it.

  • @eyemagav Certainly, it's simply a title for the person in charge of construction on a theatre crew.

  • oh, i thought it would be about shoes ROFLOL

  • @fashionbug9880 lol, that made me chuckle :-)

  • @fashionbug9880

    Isn't it?? I just opened it :S

  • 1x3 is actually 3/4" by 2 1/2" not 1 1/2" like the video says. Other than that great video.

  • @thebannanaman

Good note, even though we buy the wood at 1X3, the wood is measured BEFORE the wood companies shave it down. So the result is really actually smaller.

  • @thebannanaman

Oh wait, I misunderstood. Yeah, I agree anyway hah. The vid says it's 1X3, but 1X2 would actually be 3/4" by 1 1/2" if I'm not mistaken.
