I most apologize to the good people in the Great State of Minnesota!, But Michele Bauchman is a BUMBLING F@#Kn IDIOT!!!!!, But she not alone. Theres that Wack Job from Alaska, Palin. The witch from delaware and last but not least, The 'wrong ANGLE' from Nevada,... Im not a Republican, But if I was, I would tell them Tea Party 'Wackos' to move on!!!
@hughster41 Ok, here are the facts. MB doesn't understand basic science... she actually believes the world is around 6000 years old. She recently stated that she believes the Federal Government controls 50% of the US economy. She failed to show up to vote on HR 4667 which would increase Veterans compensation for service related disabilities. The billed passed the house this week.
So, the facts are she's ignorant, and incompetent. Or maybe she is just pretending to be ignorant and incompetent.
@hughster41 I work for a living, and I'm not in need of handouts. We aren't discussing entitlements, we're talking about an incompetent, ignorant Congresswoman. If you're confused perhaps you should review the comment sections and retrench your arguments.
just wait the middle class will be destroyed. because, of these hyper-sensative liberal ideas."socialism" standard of living will go down except for the super rich.
Minnesota already has programs for the uninsured (i.e. GAMC,etc). They also have have very low-margin non-profit HMOs - the best health insurance system in the nation. Now this "reform" bill will be sending many of your tax dollars down to the southern (Repulican) states and will destroy the MN system. Its true. Shoulda listened to Michelle.
If you really wanted to destroy a government the best way would be to cut taxes and increase spending. Over time the debt would grow so large that the government wouldn't be able to function. when the government collapsed you could claim, "See, we told you this would happen."
you should have been this discontent with the 2 wars that brought us nothing but debt. NOT ONE WMD, AND NO BIN LADEN. where do you think the money that funds wars comes from? US(THE TAXPAYER) get fucked hypocrite
The big insurance companies and big pharma are ecstatic. More customers and it is tax subsidised. Yay for Congress, those bribes, errr I mean, those campaign contributions really paid off. What is even better is that there are stupid American's who really believe that this is all for their benefit.
Not at all. I value human life. That is why I am a Republican and not a Democrat that supports murdering unborn children. Health insurance has nothing to do with the value of a human being.
I would assume a healthy human being might be worth more than an ill human being. If that's true then the quality of health insurance may have some impact on the wellness of the individual. Those without health insurance tend to avoid regular preventative health care, and they also delay urgently needed care.
The GOP's position is "We're in the lifeboat, and you can either swim harder or drown." The GOP has been in power 5 times since World War II and never even attempted to reform health care
@clinker54 That is not true. What do you call Medicare and Medicaid? Do realize how is currently being spent on people for medical care by this government?
The problem is the blatant lies being told by the President and Democrats. This is not health care reform. Nothing in this is going to lower the cost of care. All this is designed to do is kill private insurance. Would you accept an unlimited obligation for a limited payment? I don't think so.
@CommonSenseJoe What part isn't true? Medicare and Medicaid laws were passed in 1965 by LBJ. GW Bush expanded the medicare prescription drug benefit in 2003. So I apologize for forgetting that a Republican expanded an entitlement.
And I'd agree that in strict terms this might be more insurance reform than health care reform. Of course the GOP only wanted Tort reform, buying insurance across state lines, and removal of preexisting conditions... not health reform either.
I did not agree with many thing President Bush did, but he did it in an effort to work with Democrats. That was his mistake.
You need to ask yourself the question then why is there not any healthcare reform?
You did not answer my question about an unlimited obligation for a limited payment.
That is not "only" what they wanted. They have wanting to do many different things to fix the problem. This is not the way to lower healthcare cost. It will only do what it was designed to do.
I am unaware of any 'unlimited obligations" in this bill. What specifically are you referring too? The bill pays for itself, and actually lowers the deficit.
This legislation will not kill private health insurance companies. It will however make them work harder to maintain their customers trust. They'll have to learn how to make profits without taking unfair advantages of their customers. It's about time too.
@clinker54 The bill removes both annual and lifetime maximums on health insurance policies. It also bans insurance companies from excluding those who preexisting conditions. It is like saying to insurance companies you must insure the guy with 100 accidents the same as the guy with 1 accidents. They must accept unlimited obligation to cover ALL of a person's medical bills, but cannot consider the person's health when taking the risk.
@CommonSenseJoe Yes, that is true. It also adds 30 million people to the insurance rolls. Don't misunderstand, I understand that there are serious holes in this bill. One cannot, with good conscious, allow insurance companies to drop insured customers simply because they are making claims on their policies.
There were some serious abuses by these corporations and the bill attempts to address them. It's not perfect but it's better than nothing.
@clinker54 First, I am not convinced that there were wide spread abuses by health insurance companies. Second, assuming that there were some, why not just change the regulations or beef up enforcement? Third, those 30 million people will have to buy insurance in FOUR YEARS. How many people are dying everyday because they lack health insurance? Are we going to wait FOUR years and let more them die. Of course, that was all a lie as well.
@CommonSenseJoe If you mean the "unlimited obligation for a limited payment, here's my answer: I personally would not accept such an agreement. The argument you make however doesn't take into consideration the low risk patients. Yes, the new legislation will force the insurance companies to pay more claims than they pay today. yes, that will lower profits. Why then are insurance stocks increasing in value?
So what was your plan? Tort reform? Buying across state lines?
If you would NOT accept such a thing, then why is it reasonable to expect an insurance company to do the same?
Tell me, what is a "low risk" person and how can an insurance determine that unless they look at medical histories for preexisting conditions?
You ask a good question. Why would insurance company stocks go up IF they are going to have lower profits? The answer is that they HAVE FOUR MORE years to make money, then they will cease writing health insurance.
@CommonSenseJoe Dont be so quick to bury the insurance industry. Similar predictions were made in 1965 when medicare and medicaid were passed. The insurance companies will adapt to the new rules. Look for them to develop low cost options for younger consumers. Look for discounts for non-smokers, low body mass indexers, and people who take no maintenance medications.
The actuaries will calculate the premiums and products they'll need to prosper.
@clinker54 Medicare and Medicaid are totally different. They, in fact, benefited the insurance companies because they removed the higher cost old people from the insurance pool.
Since the specifics of the bill have not been written by HHS secretary yet, I am only guessing, but I don't think there can be any "discounts" for any of the things you mentioned. Insurance companies already do that now, but will be limited in the future.
This bill is designed to eliminate private insurance. TRUST ME
@CommonSenseJoe Whether it was designed to eliminate private insurance or not is something I'll leave to the conspiracy theorists'.
The government does not control nor intend to control all insurance products. As long as the product doesn't rule out pre-existing conditions or allow for recision, they can write policies as they see fit. Discounts for product specifics is not under the the HHS or any other regulatory body other than state insurance boards.
@clinker54 Respectfully, you are completely wrong. This administration DOES intend to control everything they possibly can banks, car companies, and healthcare. The law excludes preexisting conditions. Whether you smoke is a preexisting condition. Your BMI is a preexisting condition. Recension is the result of a person lying on their application and thus violating the contract. ALL policies must, by law, limit out of pocket, and have no limits on claims either annually or lifetime.
@clinker54 My plan is to provide healthcare directly to the people who need it and bypass the entire insurance system.
People who cannot afford something should NOT get the same treatment as those who do. We should expand public clinics and have public hospitals that provide care at no cost or a reduced cost to those who needed it. We should allow doctors and nurses with student loans to work off their loans.
We also need tort reform badly. We also need to increase competition.
@CommonSenseJoe What you describe is "single payer" healthcare. This is exactly the system in use in Canada. It's a very effective system for providing quality health care to the majority. I would be in favor of this system.
Your comment that people who cannot afford something should not get the same treatment as those who do is unconscionable. Would you like the job of deciding who gets care and who suffers?
I was a paramedic for years and years. I never based my care on my patients wallet
@clinker54 No, what I am describing is healthcare for those of lower incomes. Why should a person who is on welfare get the same level or better care than I have as a working person? I am not saying they should be left to die. I am saying they should NOT walk into the same doctor's office do and get treat the same as me. Why should Medicaid pay for their kids to get their teeth fixed when I have to pay out of my own pocket?
@CommonSenseJoe This is the fundamental difference between progressives and conservatives. Conservatives worry about the money, and progressives worry about the people. An un- insured person with abdominal pain of unknown origin deserved the same CT study that the insured person receives. If surgery is required the poor person deserves the same standard of care.
I treated many people on welfare... they hurt and bleed like workers. Their families grieve when they die. Their sons fight in Iraq.
@clinker54 No, the fundamental difference between progressives (liberals) and conservatives is that we don't want to make everyone wards of the state. I have worked with the poor for decades so I know what I am talking about.
I am not saying that they would not be treated, just not in the same way as those who are ACTUALLY PAYING FOR IT. When those who don't work are treated the same or better than those who work, WHY THE HELL WORK?
@CommonSenseJoe I understand your position, but I have never seen a medical professional make such a discriminating decision. Is the ER admitting clerk required to arm band the patient with "Poor" "On welfare" etc. Then the attending looks at the arm band and orders a cheaper, less effective antibiotic? Or denies an imaging study in favor of an x-ray? Malpractice rates will shoot through the roof and patients will die.
I'm sorry but this class or caste method of health care is offensive.
Respectfully, you don't understand my position. I know because growing up I went to the county nurse for my school shots, not a doctor's office. The government should make healthcare, not health insurance, available to those who cannot afford. They should expand free or reduce fee clinics through the country. They should have a hospital in every county provide care to the poor. Emergencies that ARE NOT emergencies would referred to the clinic.
@CommonSenseJoe You're right I didn't understand your position. I absolutely agree with your last post. I doubt you'll find much support for this position on the right, but progressives would generally support that idea. We would however probably want some assurance that the public clinics and hospitals offered the same standards of care available in private institutions.
@hughster41 As far as buying something you don't want, what about the wars? What about the banking bailouts? What about the tax cuts for the wealthy? We always pay for things we don't feel we want. My tax dollars go towards roads and such that I never drive on, or schools that I don't attend. This is no different. It's not entitlement, it's our nation's well-being.
@hughster41 Thanks for at least bringing up your concerns in a more "logical" manner. As far as the cost goes, the CBO has already run the numbers, and from every angle, we are going to save money...in the long run. The righties cannot give any evidence to show 17000 new IRS agents will be hired. I read a great article about the "caddy plans: theatlantic(dot)com/personal/archive/2010/01/special-deal-for-labor-unions-in-health-care-bill/33532/
@hughster41 LOL, going with the professor route. Ok. Well, since we've bantered with the best of your intelligence, do you care to unleash your full potential and actually support a legitimate claim against the healthcare bill? I'd love to hear this!
@hughster41 The correct term would be "run", not "ran", dumbass. PS, your governor is a republican. You are beyond stupid. Oh, when trying to insult someone, it works best if your insult is at least original. Too much nut in your system must've disturbed your brains ability to expell a creative thought, eh?
@hughster41 Sucking dick for coke isn't a job asshat, no matter what your mother taught you. Oh, PS, California is the NUMBER ONE biggest welfare state in our country. Get a fucking job you dumb lazy shit stain.
I think we should rise up against the government. The new health care will bankrupt my dad's small businesses over fines for either insuring or not insuring part time employees. Its $750 per year per employee you dont insure. We have over 100 employees, about 80 of which are part time. It would cost us several thousand a year per employee to insure them and we dont have much. We would also have to pay the $750 fine if they refuse our health care, already buy their own or have it from
@DMSComedy Apparently your father is a fucking idiot for not taking advantage of Obama's small business plan. It lays out about $730 million in funding to the U.S. Small Business Administration, majority of which will go for financing programs, managing their pay rolls, helping laid off employees get affordable medical insurance in the form of COBRA etc. Your dad will be getting cuts in taxes.
Yeah, except they prolonged the great depression and the only reason we got out of it was because of WWII. Oh and all the "socialist policies" were meant to be temporary and everything go back to the way it was before implementation after the war was over. And later politicians expanded them which resulted in the perversion of their original purpose. No one was supposed to ever be able live of off Social Security... guess what?
@mynameissang actually you could argue that it prolonged the depression. All the people you listed made serious unconstitutional laws and policies (income tax anyone). Wilson was mentally sick for petes sake. He alone screwed us over big time. Any free thinking american democrat OR republican who knows history knows how much problems these people actual caused with social programs and government increases.
Woodrow Wilson was the worst president in history.
Roosevelt prolonged the depression.
And I have nothing but respect for Kennedy. He got killed because he signed executive order 11110 which allowed silver to be used as legal tender, stripping the power from the Federal Reserve that Wilson created.
You know why she has insurance.....because she has a job. Insurance coverage is not an entitlement, get a job and you should be covered. Why should I have to pay for some out of work illegal immigrant?
@sdboreel Your the worst kind of people. Its nice to know that you could condemn someone to death just because they have a lack of money. I would gladly pay more taxes if it meant that others didnt have to DIE. Hows that greed workin out for you?
I'm an independent, I have only voted for independents in my life. Every time I look at this bill, It looks more slimy on how it was passed. I will not vote democratic.
Michele and the Republicans are the biggest crooks in the world. Its so funny how the tables have turned. They are crying like little babies. How do you run your next election on, "I know Barack and the Dems got you health insurance but if you vote for me I'll take it away".
Way to go Michelle. This video is a clever one, but free and government do not go together. There is no such thing as, and will never be, free government healthcare. You can pay for the whole country's insurance in your W-2's, or you can have a free market where you choose your own insurance and pay for it yourself. At least if I don't like my private provider's care, standards, or fees I have a choice. With Gov't. Healthcare my only choice is pay once, or pay twice.
What a ridiculous Ad. It's as ridiculous as saying that all 219 Dems that voted FOR healthcare want to kill your unborn child. I am so exhausted with everyone.
All your elected have better health care then any of us, but the health care you and I will receive will be much different. Why can't we get the same as they have? Double standards prevail again.
Rofl americans are so scared of socialist ideas.. Seems the cold war ghost never goes away..
Even good things like health care scare u guys.. i just dont get it.. just do a bit of research most civilized and socialy fair counties have health care..
Then why do you non-Americans come here for better care. I came here from Europe and your full of shit. There is a reason why I left Europe and it sure wasn't becasue of their great ideas.
It proofs how much power the big companies have in America. And how selfish people can be. I'm 31 years old. I'm never sick, i haven't seen my doctor in years, but i pay for healthcare every month. The money i pay, is probably being used to pay for someone else his treatment. I don't mind, because if i ever get very sick, i don't have to worry about paying thousands of Euro's to the hospital. If that's socialism, you can call me a socialist. Don't Americans care for eachother anymore?
Oral Roberts College Student Michele Backmann had huge tears in her eyes when Oral told of having a conversation with Jesus & Jesus was over 900 feet tall (The Statue of Liberty is only 150 feet tall).
Inasmuch as Bachmann believed that & also believes the world is but 6,000 years old - I must assert she is certifiably crazy.
this is bs She gets her health care through her husband not the feds BUT Federal health care costs are the highest in the world WE DO NOT NEED THAT there is no reason Government workers from the President to the dog catcher should get these plans that cost $20,000 a year when 60 Million americans make minimum wage and dont even earn that in a year.
Our Teachers strike against our families Hold our children Hostage and the result is higher taxes WE NEED CONTROL OF OUR GOVERNMENT
I never thought I would see this country move backwards in politics. Shouldn't we learn from the mistakes of others? Oh well, let's see how these democrats deal with increased taxes, oh wait they will probably pass that on to the people working hard and making enough money to buy health insurance for themselves and their families. Of course, to the democrats these people don't work hard for their money, they just get their money handed to them. Kind of like a free handout, oh wait...
The tragic (TOXIC) dumbing down of the conservative movement (1950s-present): Buckley / Goldwater (rolling over in their graves) Nixon's Secret Plan & Southern Strategy Reagan (Trickle-down & massive DEBT) Religious right hijacks Jesus. GOP hijacks the flag. Limbaugh & Hate Radio Family values hypocrisy Fox "News" Bush/Cheney Palin Birthers Beck GOP-Baggers (GOP hijacks Tea Party.) The abyss? Conservatives, you are HERE.
Michelle Bachmann is amazingly stupid. I've heard her talk a few times and there is not alot going on up there. There are some intelligent republicans but she is just a really dumb human being. There are some real moron democrat congressmen too. I guess its not that difficult to become a congressmen or something.
What do the warning signs of tyranny look like to a progressive? What would the "Road to Tyranny" look like in they're eyes. We've seen Alex's version whats their's. I'm curious.
Who's looking for handouts? Minn is the 8th ranked welfare state in the country. Your state takes more federal money (than what you pay out) than 42 other states. Quit sucking the government tit and get a job you fucking idiot.
I fully support the right of Bachmann's supporters to carry guns, even at her town halls, but I sure hope none of them shoot her. That would be a shame. Now don't misinterpret what I say. I'm not calling for any of them to shoot her. That would be bad and I'm certainly not the type of person to incite violence. What I'm saying is that one of her supporters might shoot her. Who can say for sure that she absolutely won't get shot? I'm just praying that it doesn't happen.
arnold The govenator. The leader of the poorest state in the nation that needs the healthcare reform cause they have so many illegals thave have snook into american and made them bankrupt. If you let the liberals have there way they will have american bankrupt by 2012
@RealTalkTol maybe you should move to texas...you'd b a shoe in to work for their board of education! They like to make up words and put them in their text books.
Minnesota is a welfare state its that simple. To bad the tim pawlenty is a republican. Dont worry new words get added to the dictionary each year. actually snook is a word just not in the context I used it.
Obama is no good for anyone who believes in freedom. Him and 219 congress crooks have to go !! Unless you like socialism and being told what to do and how to act. Please the poison is in the democratic/ progressive party. It's amazing the leftys spin. Please ?
You're a fucking idiot. This is not SOCIALISM, my god you people are so fucking ignorant I can't take it anymore!!! I'm literally going to explode any minute now.
@KSP0520 funny how you like to bring up that "freedom" arguement....too bad you didnt use it when Bush was wiretapping your phone, but I guess youre selective with your memory right? Hope you crazy tea baggers dont take your anger out by bombing a federal building or bombing an abortion clinic.
@KSP0520 you are a complete moron who believes whatever hype bullshit news stations like Fox Noise throw at you. You want to talk about freedom. What do you think Bush did for your freedom you fucking idiot? All these rich politicians are greedy and are enjoying all the benifits that they are voting to keep you and I from having? You think that is freedom??? Huh? I'm so fucking tired of idiots like you. You shouldn't have internet access. You're just spreading stupidity.
@SandraBullcocked Actually its not. They have their own separate health coverage for congress only and congressmen are exempt from the rules forcing people to buy insurance that are in this bill.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Funny none of the comments on here are facts, Bush had the greatest growth ever in the history of America until the Dems took over in Jan. 2007. Bachmann is the most popular woman in Mn, I know because I live here.
Growth of what!?!?!? Deficit spending? I hate replying on YouTube, but your post was too funny to pass up. It's much better for someone not to post any facts that to post unbelievably inaccurate "facts" - if you were going for humor with your post, you succeeded. I'm laughing at you.
@803brando southern somalia is were their is a civil war going on...northern somalia however is perfetly peaceful and beautiful...in fact it became a separate country from the south back in 1991 but still remains to be unrecognized
@clinker54 I could not agree more! All these idiots who hate the givernment need to stop supporting our troops, sending their kids to school, driving on highwatys, going to the library, mailing letters, and start eating food that is untested for safety
@clinker54 FDA approval is not required for medication to actually work. That's just the government extorting protection money. I'm all for cutting taxes, period. No one else is responsible for my health. Not you, not the government, not someone you want to steal money from to "pay" for my healthcare. I am simply not interested in willing slavery to the collective as you are.
Unless you're an ignorant physician there are plenty of people responsible for your health. Government regulates the certification of almost every health professional you encounter. Your pharmacy is regulated, the drug manufacturing facilities are regulated, and even the drug storage facilities must comply with local and national regulations.
Without these safeguards your health care would be seriously at risk. even the quacky chiropractors are regulated. Takes taxes to monitor the system.
@wantwit Do you really want to live in a country that doesn't certify it's doctors? Or nurses? Or pharmacists? Can you be so naive as to believe that without regulation the health care industry would police itself?
In every state in this country it's illegal to practice medicine without a license. Are you saying that this law is the improper use of governmental power?
The next time you break your leg why don't you run down to the barber shop and ask the barber to set your leg.
@clinker54 The benefits of a truly free society outweigh any drawbacks. I'm not saying that requiring a medical license is a government abuse of power. I'm saying I want no government and am not interested in willing enslavement to the collective. The only moral way for men to deal with each other is totally unregulated capitalism. Two men trade at an agreed upon value. Anything else such as taxes or regulation is simply legalized theft.
@wantwit I understand. You seek a utopian society which cannot exist. Two men can trade on agreed value but 300 million cannot. Taxes support services that would be impossible to provide if required to operate at a profit. How does a private fire service make a profit? Can you afford to travel by highway if every street bridge and tunnel were for profit toll roads?
The model you seek is something less than a third world country. All barter, no regs. Anarchy.
"Taxes support services that would be impossible to provide if required to operate at a profit" - Then they should not exist.
"How does a private fire service make a profit?" - by charging for their services. There are many easily workable profit models.
"Can you afford to travel by highway if every street bridge and tunnel were for profit toll roads?" - Yes, if I provide enough value based on my productive efforts.
To the GOP the government is the enemy. Funny how they all want to be elected to the government, but then they want less of it. Problem solved... the GOP should pledge to withdraw from participating in government. Everybody wins.
Targeting nutjob Bachman is a good start. Now run this same type of ad against every Repuke in Congress that voted against health care reform, plus those few cowardly Democrats who feared for their seats.
The main difference between liberals and conservatives: Liberals oppose their tax dollars being used to kill people in war and conservatives oppose their tax dollars being used to save people in health care.
Bachmann is an idiot. She blamed the economic collapse on Obama because he invited gay/lesbian leaders to the White House, but the collapse happened MONTHS BEFORE HE TOOK OFFICE. Gotta love how she thinks time flows (backwards).
Bachmann is a true enemy to facts, a true enemy to justice, a true enemy to the middle class, and a true enemy to science. Vote her out now.
The payments on this health reform starts right way with the increase in taxes on the rich...that's what the hub-bub is all about. The capital gains tax is being raised 1.5% bringing it to a minimal 16.5%, not even to the half way mark that it was set at before Bush's tax cuts to the rich. Wall St doesn't like this, nor does the fat cats raking it in on the Fix Market.
Its baffling to see such opposition to people actually helping us. America is in serious trouble. We are only being propped up now by massive federal spending. That is running out. Health Care reform commits us to spend several trillion more dollars we don't have. If the massive spending doesn't bankrupt the country, it will almost definitely drag us below the threshold of social stability. Then the real problems begin..
It's even more baffling to see the sudden concern among Republicans for curtailing spending, especially after so many tax cuts, throwing the economy into the toilet, and waging two wars in which, in one country, several billion dollars was just "lost" in the desert.
It rings a bit hollow when the same people who supported that travesty are suddenly proclaiming this deep concern with bankrupting the nation, particularly over providing health care for Americans.
@kevinbgoode Interesting reply. Because I'm financially responsible you assume I'm a Republican. huh. If you think concern over national bankruptcy rings hollow, I would recommend some reading on cnn.money, yahoo finance or google finance. There's a good parable on slate "Basically, It's Over" by Charles Munger, Warren Buffett's partner. google "Basicland".
You are about 8 years late airing that concern. Or perhaps you were echoing the same thing when tax cuts were offered and nothing done to pay for the two continuing wars.
@paultous Same place yours was when Obama increased war spending by sending more troops, delaying pullout and deciding to leave a mere 50,000 over there. That's a lot of troops with no business.

The problem is the blatant lies being told by the President and Democrats. This is not health care reform. Nothing in this is going to lower the cost of care. All this is designed to do is kill private insurance. Would you accept an unlimited obligation for a limited payment? I don't think so.
CommonSenseJoe 1 year ago
@CommonSenseJoe What part isn't true? Medicare and Medicaid laws were passed in 1965 by LBJ. GW Bush expanded the medicare prescription drug benefit in 2003. So I apologize for forgetting that a Republican expanded an entitlement.
And I'd agree that in strict terms this might be more insurance reform than health care reform. Of course the GOP only wanted Tort reform, buying insurance across state lines, and removal of preexisting conditions... not health reform either.
clinker54 1 year ago
I did not agree with many thing President Bush did, but he did it in an effort to work with Democrats. That was his mistake.
You need to ask yourself the question then why is there not any healthcare reform?
You did not answer my question about an unlimited obligation for a limited payment.
That is not "only" what they wanted. They have wanting to do many different things to fix the problem. This is not the way to lower healthcare cost. It will only do what it was designed to do.
CommonSenseJoe 1 year ago
I am unaware of any 'unlimited obligations" in this bill. What specifically are you referring too? The bill pays for itself, and actually lowers the deficit.
This legislation will not kill private health insurance companies. It will however make them work harder to maintain their customers trust. They'll have to learn how to make profits without taking unfair advantages of their customers. It's about time too.
clinker54 1 year ago
@clinker54 The bill removes both annual and lifetime maximums on health insurance policies. It also bans insurance companies from excluding those who preexisting conditions. It is like saying to insurance companies you must insure the guy with 100 accidents the same as the guy with 1 accidents. They must accept unlimited obligation to cover ALL of a person's medical bills, but cannot consider the person's health when taking the risk.
CommonSenseJoe 1 year ago
@CommonSenseJoe Yes, that is true. It also adds 30 million people to the insurance rolls. Don't misunderstand, I understand that there are serious holes in this bill. One cannot, with good conscious, allow insurance companies to drop insured customers simply because they are making claims on their policies.
There were some serious abuses by these corporations and the bill attempts to address them. It's not perfect but it's better than nothing.
clinker54 1 year ago
@clinker54 First, I am not convinced that there were wide spread abuses by health insurance companies. Second, assuming that there were some, why not just change the regulations or beef up enforcement? Third, those 30 million people will have to buy insurance in FOUR YEARS. How many people are dying everyday because they lack health insurance? Are we going to wait FOUR years and let more them die. Of course, that was all a lie as well.
You are still avoiding my question!
CommonSenseJoe 1 year ago
@CommonSenseJoe If you mean the "unlimited obligation for a limited payment, here's my answer: I personally would not accept such an agreement. The argument you make however doesn't take into consideration the low risk patients. Yes, the new legislation will force the insurance companies to pay more claims than they pay today. yes, that will lower profits. Why then are insurance stocks increasing in value?
So what was your plan? Tort reform? Buying across state lines?
clinker54 1 year ago
@clinker54
CommonSenseJoe 1 year ago
@CommonSenseJoe Dont be so quick to bury the insurance industry. Similar predictions were made in 1965 when medicare and medicaid were passed. The insurance companies will adapt to the new rules. Look for them to develop low cost options for younger consumers. Look for discounts for non-smokers, low body mass indexers, and people who take no maintenance medications.
The actuaries will calculate the premiums and products they'll need to prosper.
clinker54 1 year ago
@clinker54 Medicare and Medicaid are totally different. They, in fact, benefited the insurance companies because they removed the higher cost old people from the insurance pool.
Since the specifics of the bill have not been written by HHS secretary yet, I am only guessing, but I don't think there can be any "discounts" for any of the things you mentioned. Insurance companies already do that now, but will be limited in the future.
This bill is designed to eliminate private insurance. TRUST ME
CommonSenseJoe 1 year ago
@CommonSenseJoe Whether it was designed to eliminate private insurance or not is something I'll leave to the conspiracy theorists'.
The government does not control nor intend to control all insurance products. As long as the product doesn't rule out pre-existing conditions or allow for recision, they can write policies as they see fit. Discounts for product specifics is not under the the HHS or any other regulatory body other than state insurance boards.
clinker54 1 year ago
@clinker54 Respectfully, you are completely wrong. This administration DOES intend to control everything they possibly can banks, car companies, and healthcare. The law excludes preexisting conditions. Whether you smoke is a preexisting condition. Your BMI is a preexisting condition. Recension is the result of a person lying on their application and thus violating the contract. ALL policies must, by law, limit out of pocket, and have no limits on claims either annually or lifetime.
CommonSenseJoe 1 year ago
@clinker54 My plan is to provide healthcare directly to the people who need it and bypass the entire insurance system.
People who cannot afford something should NOT get the same treatment as those who do. We should expand public clinics and have public hospitals that provide care at no cost or a reduced cost to those who needed it. We should allow doctors and nurses with student loans to work off their loans.
We also need tort reform badly. We also need to increase competition.
CommonSenseJoe 1 year ago
@CommonSenseJoe What you describe is "single payer" healthcare. This is exactly the system in use in Canada. It's a very effective system for providing quality health care to the majority. I would be in favor of this system.
Your comment that people who cannot afford something should not get the same treatment as those who do is unconscionable. Would you like the job of deciding who gets care and who suffers?
I was a paramedic for years and years. I never based my care on my patients wallet
clinker54 1 year ago
@clinker54 No, what I am describing is healthcare for those of lower incomes. Why should a person who is on welfare get the same level or better care than I have as a working person? I am not saying they should be left to die. I am saying they should NOT walk into the same doctor's office do and get treat the same as me. Why should Medicaid pay for their kids to get their teeth fixed when I have to pay out of my own pocket?
I disagree about how good Canada's system is.
CommonSenseJoe 1 year ago
@CommonSenseJoe This is the fundamental difference between progressives and conservatives. Conservatives worry about the money, and progressives worry about the people. An un- insured person with abdominal pain of unknown origin deserved the same CT study that the insured person receives. If surgery is required the poor person deserves the same standard of care.
I treated many people on welfare... they hurt and bleed like workers. Their families grieve when they die. Their sons fight in Iraq.
clinker54 1 year ago
@clinker54 No, the fundamental difference between progressives (liberals) and conservatives is that we don't want to make everyone wards of the state. I have worked with the poor for decades so I know what I am talking about.
I am not saying that they would not be treated, just not in the same way as those who are ACTUALLY PAYING FOR IT. When those who don't work are treated the same or better than those who work, WHY THE HELL WORK?
CommonSenseJoe 1 year ago
@CommonSenseJoe I understand your position, but I have never seen a medical professional make such a discriminating decision. Is the ER admitting clerk required to arm band the patient with "Poor" "On welfare" etc. Then the attending looks at the arm band and orders a cheaper, less effective antibiotic? Or denies an imaging study in favor of an x-ray? Malpractice rates will shoot through the roof and patients will die.
I'm sorry but this class or caste method of health care is offensive.
clinker54 1 year ago
Respectfully, you don't understand my position. I know because growing up I went to the county nurse for my school shots, not a doctor's office. The government should make healthcare, not health insurance, available to those who cannot afford. They should expand free or reduce fee clinics through the country. They should have a hospital in every county provide care to the poor. Emergencies that ARE NOT emergencies would referred to the clinic.
CommonSenseJoe 1 year ago

We would also have to pay the $750 fine if they refuse our health care, already buy their own or have it from
DMSComedy 1 year ago
@DMSComedy Apparently your father is a fucking idiot for not taking advantage of Obama's small business plan. It lays out about $730 million in funding to the U.S. Small Business Administration, majority of which will go for financing programs, managing their pay rolls, helping laid off employees get affordable medical insurance in the form of COBRA etc. Your dad will be getting cuts in taxes.

So when did a progressive society become poison?

Yeah, except they prolonged the great depression and the only reason we got out of it was because of WWII. And later politicians expanded them which resulted in the perversion of their original purpose. No one was supposed to ever be able live of off Social Security... guess what?

Way to go Michelle. This video is a clever one, but free and government do not go together. There is no such thing as, and will never be, free government healthcare. You can pay for the whole country's insurance in your W-2's, or you can have a free market where you choose your own insurance and pay for it yourself. At least if I don't like my private provider's care, standards, or fees I have a choice. With Gov't. Healthcare my only choice is pay once, or pay twice.

Anything else such as taxes or regulation is simply legalized theft.
wantwit 1 year ago
@wantwit I understand. You seek a utopian society which cannot exist. Two men can trade on agreed value but 300 million cannot. Taxes support services that would be impossible to provide if required to operate at a profit. How does a private fire service make a profit? Can you afford to travel by highway if every street bridge and tunnel were for profit toll roads?
The model you seek is something less than a third world country. All barter, no regs. Anarchy.

@clinker54 "300 million cannot." - false.

Then the real problems begin..
tuftedlover 1 year ago

There's a good parable on slate "Basically, It's Over" by Charles Munger, Warren Buffett's partner. google "Basicland".
tuftedlover 1 year ago
You are about 8 years late airing that concern. Or perhaps you were echoing the same thing when tax cuts were offered and nothing done to pay for the two continuing wars.
kevinbgoode 1 year ago
@tuftedlover : yea right! where was your voice when Bush was spending 10 billion dollars a month in a war we had no business being in.
paultous 1 year ago 5
@paultous Same place yours was when Obama increased war spending by sending more troops, delaying pullout and deciding to leave a mere 50,000 over there. That's a lot of troops with no business.
