You sold me on an RDX. I'm planning to trade in my 2008 Civic EX w/ navigation for an RDX with technology package in the next few months since I would love to have AWD. And being in Illinois, it will be pretty similar to your drives. Thanks a lot man!
0:50 would have been nice to try to actually STOP, not roll through the intersection. I would like to see how the ABS engages and no slipping/sliding occurs...
love the video not a lot of rdx videos on here i wish u had more videos of it. of the awd i know its not a off road car . but would love videos of it using its awd .
actually shes not. like he said, the rdx slides bad around corners. she has winter tires, and a lot of snow still gets caught in the chambers of the tires.
Hmm... well the great majority of RDX owners and professional automotive reviewers disagree with your friend (including myself). I'd imagine SHE sucks at driving to begin with.
Did anyone else notice the Rear Wheel Drive, Mazda RX-8, Driving in the beginning of the video as well? I'm not saying its a terrible SUV... but if the RWD Rx8 is pullin off and driving in that snow then this doesnt show much
this might be a stupid question, but does the abs work on snow? i was under the impression that most abs systems were set up for pavement and couldnt adapt to the reduced traction when stopping.
my friend just purchased a 06 and I got to test drive one and loved it the braking is amazing and the padel shifting is pretty cool I drive a 06 altima se-r and its terrible in winter with the horse power and fwd I think i will be getting a awd g35 or fx35 for winter but the rdx is beautiful great choice
I really miss driving in the snow at dark, it gives you a weird feeling but I like it, reminded me of where i used to live, also im buying the RDX in a month. great vid
Wow! Great video! I love Acura's. That didn't seem to have any problem what so ever in the snow! My mom drives a Subaru Impreza, it does get you going but it has no type of stability or traction control so if you floor it in snow it just spins and spins.
@2000mercurysable I always own an acura now 05 TL my third acura car. They are great reliable affordable engines and they look great my wife wants to get 09 MDX excited to purchase one early next year.
I give this car super props off road. I got a ride from some friends when I was visiting Boston and it was a blizzard and this thing was hauling ass over the snow. Amazing car in the snow.
please dont compare poor craftmanship of bmw to quality of acura. if u buy a bmw 3 series, your windows will seize with 7000 miles, and the radio will stop working within 8000 miles. dont let me get started on the cheap interior layout. the rdx gives you way more and way better quality then an x3 and 325 250hp=rdx, 225 hp= 325, x3
Fine for flat roads but what will the thing do on snowy hills that are steep such as mountain roads? Will it have traction then? That is the question.
It only has six inches of clearance for Pete's sake!
acuratl - my friend has an '10 A4 sedan and it climbed many hills in the NY area during this past week's big snow storm - with all season tires (not winter tires). The RDX stability control seems to come on too easy. We drove for two hours and it only came on in the A4 going up steep hills. We started to turn it off because when you go up steep grades (like when starting in deep snow) you need your tires to actually spin to get the momentum to go up the hill.
hi amidat, I've got a new A4 as well, one of several Audis my family's had in the past, and Quattro is KING! I applaud Honda for moving to AWD systems but I still feel that Quattro, with its torque-sensing system has the winter advantage.
yeah - . Subaru and audi have the best "winter-driving" AWD. Acura had to add AWD because of the increase in power. I love the torque vectoring tech. I want to ask you how does the SH-AWD compare in dry conditions to the "new" quattros. I know firsthand Audi's new chassis and torque configuration has changed the way Audi's handle in the dry (I haven't experienced the sport differential though). I've only experienced FWD Acura's - so I wonder how they (quattro and SH-AWD) compare in the dry.
@Amidat, a lot of Acuras are still nose-heavy (doesnt matter terribly when just going through some spirited driving), but so are Audis, although with the new chassis not nearly as much. Handling wise, because of the suspension and balance but prolly b/c of Quattro too, I would take an A4 S Line over a TL SHAWD. More comparable would be an S4 which adds a torque vectoring differential on top of the current AWD technology. Acura has a unique system in the dry, but its not head and shoulders above.
additionally, I find that when I'm climbing steep hills or in some srsly deep snow I only have to turn off ASR as it seems to be the primary handicap (w/ the cutting of power and what not), rather than switching ESP totally off (fun in empty parking lots though lol).
I got a 05 Acura TL and I love acura's now. I was thinking of getting the RDX in Black...its the only one I haven't driven. I like the MDX but I don't need that much bulk...what are your likes and dislikes of the RDX is it slow?
Nice Review. I got to test out my 2007 Pilot this week and it performed great in 8"-10" of snow, no chains or traction devices. You must be located in the NW as well.
How do you like your Rdx? is it fun fast and reliable?

It was a good 4-5 inches, unplowed and no sand or salt. I'd say that's a damn good test unless you're planning on climbing mountain trails.
