I can't compare Mr. Kapustin and Nobu! The slight differences in their rendering of the same piece only makes me want to listen to them play one after another over and over again!
No, sorry if my comment was misleading! Listen to Michelangeli playing Rachmaninoff's fourth concerto - there's undeniably some jazz influence in there. I'm not aware of Prokofiev doing anything similar.
I love this piece. I just got the music, and it's not easy. It's somewhat similar to the opening of Chopin's etude in thirds. Kapustin's music is still very good for developing technique. But the main purpose of learning his music is to have fun with it and be musical, just like anyone. Thanks for these recordings you put on Youtube. They're very enjoyable.
I don't here anything sound really like chopin etude............... This is much more modern pieces, it is a great piece!!!! love it very much!!!

What you have seen is the one Nobu played this piece when he was ONLY 15 years old!
I am very sure he plays much better now.
Guess how delight it can be...

Awesome. Kapustin is obviously one of the great pianist-composers, in the same league as Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev.
I wonder if he ever met Tsujji Noboyuki, whose account of this etude is wonderful too.
