  • if you wanted to make this in color, lets say red, would u use a red base, and mayb a deep red to spray the mesh with? like how would u do that?

  • could you not just do a carbon fiber hydrotransfer? that would be a lot easier and give you the exact carbon fiber look

  • Do you have to use the reducer.pleeez reply

  • I prefer 3M vinyl, look better is the easyest way, and if you dont like it you can remove it

  • This guy is preety good though I must say I liked the Glossier look on it cuz obviously stands out more... Great job btw

  • thx bro i was wondering what i kind use for a template and never thought of useing that so thx haha

  • CLARIFICATION NEEDED: after metallic silver and black and in between clear coat what did you do to give it that dull (grayish) matte finish?

  • not bad :D

  • can you paint some parts of my car carbon fiber?

  • well impressed :)

  • I'm wanting to make a similar finish on my NZXT Phantom, but I'm wanting a hexagonal pattern to go with a TRON legacy themed case, any suggestions on how to make, or where to get a mask to do that?

  • Start from 6:20 and pause at 6:28. Lol.

  • amazing

  • Definetly one of the best tutorials for painting carbon fiber here in youtube. Looks awesome!

  • what kind of paint gun did u use on this video

  • @hefty88

That gun was a Finex 100, they no longer make them, the replacement is the Finex 1000.

    Both are made by Sharpe.

  • Could I just use a blower attachment on out air compressor to spray off the crap instead of buying a tack cloth?

  • @ksidornseif

You could but you will find very quickly that it won't remove it all.

  • @ksidornseif cant afford $2 for a tack cloth?? Any painting ESP if you were doing effects where people actually look close to the paint work you need to use tack rag...

  • Looks like 17 people would rather have the real thing to me.

  • what's the material you use for making these holes???? i can't understand what you're saying....:/ and i can't find anywhere something like this...please someone tell me...!

  • i don´t have the physical space and tools to do it but i´d certainly like to do that... and btw never saw you wearing a mask... :S man if you wanna live through your 50´s better start taking care of the lungs... even pores on the skin "breaths" the chemicals... ;) anyway great work of art!!!

  • Excellent technique had not seen any that really look like CABON FIBER

  • You got the magic touch, buddy. Nice job!

  • Very well done. Dirt shows up in clear finishes, even in very clean booths. Just a simple matter of wet sanding and buffing out. PPG is an excellent product. I've had a few problems with it wrinkling/lifting if I over reduce it when trick painting, but overall it's worked out well.

  • I LOVE the gloss over it! Will definitely add to favorites for future reference

  • holyshit it's AWESOME THank you sO much!!!

  • THANKS MAN!!!!!!!

  • WOW man u did a great job here..thanks for shering this video

i ask some els here on youtube how to this but no answer, thank thank u

    gonzy

  • what is the name of that screen you cover to make the effect

  • muito bom gostei muito

  • nice job im guna put some carbon fiber in my car

  • @guitarbeast22 well he did say it was going to be a Flat or mate effect

  • that looks like Legit carbon fiber

  • Great job DDG. Damn fine tutorial and much appreciated.

  • Use some gloves man! haha!

  • nice work.

  • i love it. this video is fucken sick. great job bro

  • hey just wondering what you meant by Fogging over to blend and how you did it. Thanks!

  • @laxman1337 using compressed air to blow the paint and push it around to blend it and make straight edges dissapear

  • @ed563

Over reducing the paint and spraying it from double the distance and faster than when I put the black down originally. Just misting the color on.

  • THATS AWESOME!

could i put the clear coat on my real carbon fiber hood on my car? The middle area of my cf hood lost the glossy look and looks bad the way it is now. Other parts of the hood are still glossy so i presume its because the center area gets hotter which caused that to happen. I need to find out what i can put on there so it will get that glossy look again but it is fine for all types of weather and temperature

  • @slipNslidae86 I think buffing with rubbing compound, then buff with a polishing compound would be best for a task like that!

  • @slipNslidae86 just sand it down with 1000 grit and clear it, you can use any clear, for a hood I reccomend at least 2 wet coats so that it lasts

  • @pablox4000 ok cool but i went and bought auto clear coat which was way more expensive than the clear laquer at home depot. But im thinking of putting all of the clear coat cans i bought which are basically 2 1/2 and then buy a clear laquer from home depot. The reason i didnt buy the home depot laquer was because on the bottle it said dont apply to surfaces that will go above 50C or something i cant remember. but would that stuff be ok or not? im guessing not, maybe just stick with what i got

  • @slipNslidae86 stick with what you got., 2k clear is the best type for cars since it will last the longest, lacquer will loose its shine and youll need to polish it every 6 months or so.

  • this would have been so much easier if you just bought a carbon fiber vinyl

  • I'm having a hard as hell time trying to find the top panel to that case. I got the tower without the top panel and am desperately trying to find where to find it.

It's hard because it's an older model case

  • @Krazie316, contact Alienware's support. another option is buying an entire "Used" case on Ebay

  • @MonsterMawd They don't sell this model anymore though. All I see on the ebay store is the 2.0 and 2.1 models.

I still haven't contacted there customer support though but since it's day now I'm gonna try

  • @MonsterMawd Yeah Their customer support acted as if they knew nothing about that case anymore, lol. They couldn't even tell me who designed the cases for them.

Losers were no help at all. I'm still trying to find the top panel everyonce in a while but still no luck

  • dang man you reduce that stuff real thin. you also spray very close to the product never seen it done that way and ive never tried it. good job tho

  • I use Craig Fraser recipe for colors (base & top coat), and do not fog. Nice work!

  • nice nice!! (hancock) 'good job'

  • Dam that looks near perfect before the flat finish but if thats what the customer wanted..its what he wanted

  • Nice technique. Disreguard the critics. I am going to try this on some Peterbilt fenders tomorrow. After cut and rub this should be a good look. Thanks!!!

  • i think if you used a darker base like the grey metallic it would have looked alot cooler, silver and black seem to contrast eachother too much.

  • thats what im gonna do to my custom made sub box

  • i think i would look better glossy but its still nice either way, Nice find in how to do this right!

  • from a sacale of 1-10 how hard would this be for your regulR person that has never painted like this besides spry bombed

  • It looks good for fake carbon fibre, but why not buy a CF kit and make the real deal? - i mean, the price for a professional painter is not cheap, so the prices should compare.

  • very nice havr to dont the water drop effect where you put real water drops on the pannel, then shadow them and bake them out.

  • what was it that you were painting the effect on?

  • please put your recepie i print on the sait or on the tube..Peace -man..

  • @lazzehagel Started with black base, then used a grey metallic over that. Dusted with an over reduced black.

  • very very god job guy congratulations...

  • Love it man, thank for taking the time to share your ideas and methods, I'm looking to make a sharper effect than this on a car bonnet (Hood) I'm spraying for a friend, I can spray pretty well but just want to do something a bit special for a change :D

  • ive seen other ways of doing this paint job, but i think this is the best method i have seen...great work

  • damn man, you did the process correctly and all... but covering it with a carbon fiber fabric and coating with resin looks alot better

  • Of course it would, this is a faux effect to simulate not replicate.

  • @machetero1 Read the title. DURP

  • I think it would have looked much better if he didnt make it darker. its seomthing i will definatly try

  • That doesn't look like carbon fiber at all. Like 0spaceboy said, it just looks like cloudy polka dots. Nice try though.

  • ur a burn dude

  • could just make a carbon fibre case instead.

  • Too bad alienware computers suck.

  • is it just me or did hhe mix like way more paint than he needed?

  • damn....he's good

  • Just get some off the internet and apply. Forget painting on dots.

  • what do u mean by "fog over" im a complete noob in painting lol

  • just look dotts lol what a fail.

  • Muito legal ,vou tentar fazer valeu pelas dicas

  • its backwards.....black base then silver over the mat

  • Comment removed

  • Perhaps a small amount of brown in the clear would give it more of an authentic look.?? Thanx for the vid.

  • Did you sand it and flat coat because of problems with the gloss? Looks like the gloss coat did not turn out too well. you can see a lot of imperfections. No booth?

  • The customer wanted a flat finish. If you're referring to the dimpled look, that's the thickness difference in the two colors. When doing a flat clearcoat you want to sand everything smooth so flattened clear will be also. If he wanted it gloss, I would've wet sanded and buffed from there. Even in a booth I've seen plenty of dirt in paint jobs.

  • I think it looks bad ass in flat too. I'm just starting out in Air and wondering how bad of a clear coat I will get without a boot.

I mainly illustrate and oil paint. This is my first go.

    Thanks

  • man.....that looks so freaking cool...

lol im gana try to do it spray paint cans... cuz i dont have all this fancy stuff.

  • Sweet Video, but can you post your entire parts/paint list.

  • I love the result, but I have a question.

How thick is the paint you are shooting? Like water or thicker? And are you just spraying a really thin layer, so it won't run? (I kinda wonder how thick the paint is, compared to how much you shoot out of it without getting runners) I really would like some advice on it, because I am using non-paint gun paint for my paint gun and I wonder how thick it has to be.

  • u shouldnt have sanded it, carbon fibre looks better glossy

cool vid! i might do this!

  • @cooked2perfektion I have one of those Alienware cases, they are a bitch to sand. It took me close to 3 hours to sand it down to a acceptible finish. I still was not happy. I agree, glossy carbon fiber looks great, but on that case, its too hard.

  • have you done this with all gloss like no metallic? because i wanna do the hood of my car and gas cap.

  • Two words' "SWEET"!

  • co to były za mieszanki farb?? i gdzie dostać taką siatkę??? co to była za farba/lakier kładziona na końcu??

  • dude thats fucking bad ass

  • Thank you

  • yeah but needed a dark grey color because usually cf is 3 color, this looks more like a cf chessboard.

  • LOL, Eye of the beholder man.

  • I think it would have looked cool to have the polished(clear coat) carbon fiber next to the flat black.

  • Definitely!

  • isnt he going to buff it out cause it woiuld look allot cooler for it to have a mirror finish and a carbon fiber effect at the same time

  • The customer wanted a flat finish to go along with the rest of his case.

  • i see...

  • WOW VERY NICE MAN

  • this is good!

  • niiiiice

  • nice job, but the clear coat actually looks more like carbon fiber.

  • i liked it when it was clear coated

  • You could use other colors than silver.

Personally I would do it the way shown then spray a candy color of your choosing to tint it.

  • is it possibly to use a color as red or blue instead of silver for a custom look ?

  • house of kolor..... excellent paint!

  • how do you do curves if you move the stencil then the dots wont line up?

  • Very nice!

  • if you lightly spay gray primer after your done it looks amazing (very light)

    try it

  • this gave me inspiration for my nissan 240sx door panels thanx

  • i tried this but it doesn't work on a curved body it's harder to do easier on flat stuff

  • you can also use standard mesh

  • man "wet" and "dry" carbon airbrush? nice man

  • what do you mean by fogging over?

  • he just means to hold the gun a distance away from the object being sprayed sothat it gets misted from the paint ... instead of painting solid. ;)

  • thx man

  • Damn man thats tight as hell!

  • cant find the tool box lining anywhere not at lowe's not at autozone where can i get it or what else can i use

  • You can find the lining at walmart or target just go to the housewares department and you'll find it where utensils, plates and stuff like that.

  • its called shelf liner

  • yar. usually in like the Household section. they put that stuff in cupboards and shelves and stuff to hold things in place

  • how did you get your nails that beautiful color.. Haha,JK

  • I prefered the shiny look, much nicer, looks more proffesional oh and great job.

  • hahahah do my wing on my wrx! ahhaha ill ship it

  • looked better shiny, pretty nice though

  • one of de nicest in youtube.

loved it more when it was cleared.

didn't really like de matt effect.

    nice job!

  • 2 Questions:

    1) What do you mean by 'Fog Over'?

    2) How much did that all cost?

    That looked so awesome!

  • Applying a very light amount of paint, so the pattern will still be visible.

  • Great tuto! Thanks! Really!

  • RICEY..!!!!! CARBON FIBER IS CARBON FIBER.......... great job but not my taste.

  • Hello... I'll soon be trying the technique based on your video...

Tho i would like to ask the exact paint color needed to use...

    thank you very much

  • i think the shiny looks a lot better then dull , shiny is a true CF look

  • quick question. You said you used wet/dry 600. but did you get it wet?

  • Yes

  • And how much did this cost the customer?

  • Thanks !!!!!!!Awesome work !!!!!!!!!!!

  • that clear coat covers amazingly well. I will have to try that out !

  • daaaaaamnn very sweet i gotta try that on my front lip.....thanks!!!

  • make sure you practice! You WONT have it come out like that the first time you do this, i promise!

  • ahhhhh dats y im gonna do it on just a lip so if i screw it up....jus sand it off and do it over.....lol...i'm guessin u're speaking from experience??

  • kinda. I was doing a computer cover like he did, and it did NOT come out right. Make sure you take your time, and be VERY careful when you lift the cloth off the paint. Also, dont rush it, let the paint dry fully. Take a couple days and make it look good :)

  • hi i have a 4 wheeler and i want to do the carbon fiber look on the front and rear fenders and if i use the tool matting its not working because when i spray it i have to pick it up and move it cause the tool mat is big enough to cover the whole fenders and you ca ntell exactly where i placed it, its almost impossible to get it to line up

  • nice vid. please tell me more about the mesh i can´t find it

  • you can find the stuff everywhere. it's basically a shelf of drawer liner. they also have it for sale online...just search for tradesman truck box liner and you can get it for about $10.

  • Is that a mini hvlp gun?

  • Yes it is. Finex 100 by Sharpe. They are now the 1000, they made some improvements to it.

  • Thx for letting me know. I ordered a mini HVLP to try.

I already have a normal HVLP gun with a nozzle of 1.4. I tried to spray a sidepanel, it came out pretty good. But I am having the problem that not much paint comes out when I have it in a fan pattern, and when it is round pattern too much comes out. Do you have any idea why that is, because I would like to use the fan pattern. Maybe it is because I hold it too far away. It could be anything, I guess, but maybe you have some suggestions.

  • Try adjusting the fan spray down some then adjust your trigger pull so not so much material comes out. Also you may need to turn down the air some too.

  • Thank you, gonna try it out. Guess the air pressure is too high, I am using 3bars, but 2 bars is possible too. Thanks for the help and keep up the good work and thanks for inspiring me and many other people!

  • 3 bars is too much you need around 25-30psi so that will be 2bar maximum 1.8-2.0 bars are the way to go.

  • thx, gonna try out all tips!

  • How much psi did you use? Just wanted to know.

  • For the base around 35 and doing the silver around 30. Now that's for the specific gun I used and my spraying style. Your equipment may vary.

  • Thanks, nice work!

  • This is probably going to sound like blasphemy to the airbrushing community, but is it possible to do this effect with spray paint aerosole cans. I have some which have really thin, almost transparent colours.

    ~Frosty.

  • i was skeptical at first, after the clear , looks great

  • There is a better way to do it with a special foil.

It costs a bit more money but looks slightly better then this.

  • what kind of foil??

  • oh man i honestly wouldnt know, you probably should Google on 'carbon fiber effect' or something like that.

  • very nice

  • nice carbon fiber effect

  • Looks great!

  • light coats.. also called "misting"

  • Looks amazing with the flat clearcoat. Nice job.

  • Nice work! everything fits together nicely!

  • Nice work Brad!
