This was the last days of hip hop right here. Back when you actually had groups that wrote and practiced like an actual band. And drew people based on that.
i know caz had to laugh now looking at himself with the fro, and what's up with chase! wtf is up with the road warrior style gloves...?..lol.. would you wear that shit today?
@nubya07 I know right. If the DJ is the backbone of Hip Hop then the records they were spinnin and cuttin were all funky records. Therefore, Funk is like the DNA or daddy of Hip Hop. It saddens me to here funk purist not recognize this because its all funky expressions in different forms.
Yo i've been trying to find this jam they where rocking on stage for so long, but I don't know the name of it... any body knows the rap song they rapped on this video?
lol.... i totaly forgot Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde rapped to this beat! Thanks a lot for reminding me but I still think this version by the Cold Crush Bros. sound way better... I wonder if they put this song on wax and if they did I wonder what they call it? May be I have to visit the website that's on the video!
It was 36 years ago to this very day that a young Clive Campbell aka DJ Kool Herc and a handful of kids in a small, sweltering rec room of 1520 Sedgwick Avenue on August 11, 1973 started a music and cultural revolution that changed the world forever!
To learn more about the story check out the Sedgwick & Cedar website and check out the new authentic hip hop clothing.
If anybody out there have the song the "Bubble Bunch" by Cold Crush could you please upload it.I need to prove to my folks that they were the first ones to use that bell pattern on the old casio keyboard that Lyte used on the "Georgy Porgy" breakdown.
Yes I agree w/Brittany i know a crackhead when I c 1 and that clip w/jr writer has a crackhead (JDL) on it. its sad instead of them expoloiting JDL they need to be getn him some help damn tryn to promote a CD :(
I believe he is... Either that or hes really down on his luck. there is a video with him on you tube. Hes with the rapper named "Jr Writer" the video I believe is called "jr writer on his grind part 2" Check it out at the very in jdl is on there talking and rapping and he looked like he was on drugs.
at 2:10 until 7mins you see footage of JDL on the streets and hes talking about Jrwriter and what a great rapper he is and he looks VERY BAD... Please watch and respond to me. I want to know what you think cause I could be wrong but I know a crack head when I see one.
Im lookin 4 a song by CCB. They spelled Cold Crush in the rap & it was with a computer voice. It was like: "C" is 4 Charlie Chase, "O" is 4 outstanding bass, "L" is 4 the ladies we possess, "D" is 4design cause thats the way we dress... "C" is 4 that Cold Crush clientele, "R" is 4 the ryhmes that we runnin down so well, "U" is 4 u out there in the crowd, "S is 4 the system that we kickin really loud, "H" is 4 the homeboys we trust- put all together & it spells COLD CRUSH. Can anyone help?
Yeah man, along with the Fantastic Freaks, Treacherous 3, Furious five, Double Trouble Cold Crush were the old school Kings. Back when emceeing was so much more flamboyant. Good to see
legendary footage! for those who don't know this is from alan yentobs 'beat dis! a hip hop history' documentary. this was aired on tv in the uk in '85 as an 'arena' special and was hugely influencial for uk hip hop heads back then, cheers for posting
Cold Crush were head and shoulders abouve the rest from '80 to '82. Before they even put out any records, their live tapes were worth more than gold. I lent out 2 of them and never got them back and I'm still mad as hell. One was CC4 at Harlem World (began with the Billy Joel joint Stiletto). The other one was the CC4 in Connecticuit (it ended with the "theme from the Godfather" break beat). If anyone has good copies of these, I WILL BUY THEM!
What year is this song? Also, what year were those tapes you had? Other than 1965's rap dirty by Blowfly, it's hard to find any rap songs before Fatback band's - King Tim. So basically there is a large gap from 1965 - July 1979.
The instrumental Charlie Chase is cutting is from 1983. I think it was the instrumental side from Dynamite 2 or Captain Rock's record. Can't remember off the top of my head, but I do have it on vinyl.
this takes me back to harlem river boys club...the fever...t connection....i still have a tape with them going against the force em cees....thanks for the memories
DAMNNNNNNNNN this takes it back to when we had emcees.....cold crush, crash crew, doctor jeckyl and mr.hyde, treacherous 3, spoonie g, sweet g.......man it was a time of swagger...lee color jeans, kangols, cazals, the fat gold rope, izod or le tigre, bally's, british walkers, puma, adidas shell toe, name belts and name chains......jamica ave, delancy st, 125 street ..dapper dans..etc etc
these rappers today are making money but the love for the hip hop culture is basically non existant...they're to busy being industry sellouts...hip hop was based on us for us the ghettofabulous it was about rebeling against a system much the way punk was for young white kids...we was FRESH then...and too you my dude stay a B-Boy 4ever
i was remebering on the "Yes yes y'all era" remember the original bad boys outta East NY.. their biggest hit was that F.R.E.S.H. and Bad Boys featuring K-Love on the beat box and the underground classic "OH Veronica"
that's that Bad Boys featuring K- LOVE doin the beat box.... i actually got all that... i have crash Crew,Ultra Magnetic,Fearless Four,Funky 4 +1, Treacherous 3, pretty much everything ole school Spoonie G, Sweet G (games people play) you name it
ahhhh man I feel better now that I didn't get rid of my collection....I've been a DJ SINCE THE HOT SINGLE (good times) I was a battle dj from the early 80's played in numerous clubs battled in the parks for respect I still have all the break beats in mint condition....together I might have atleast 500,000 records just sitting in the crates I would love to build a website just for us ANYBODY WANT TO HELP IT WOULD BE SO HOT.
