The positive side effects to this are great. Heck, I didn't even go vegan - just started eating a 4:1 vegggies to meat ratio on a daily basis and it has done wonders for my body. I get more energy per calorie consumed than if I were eating microwavable dishes or fast food. After a month of eating like that, not only could I taste the "fakeness" of a McDonalds burger, but my body started to reject it. I eat lean cuts of meat (chicken or fish most days) with lots of veggies - no tofu. :)
Okay, since you call this a mockumentary in the description I'm not sure whether you actually did this If you did it's a great experiment, but it's a pity you didn't do it with the help of someone who'd been a vegan for a longer time: you would have had far tastier food and more nutritious food if you'd known more about the options available to you.
I can't understand why this guy is making such a big deal about becoming vegan. I did it in one go and had no side effects, no need to make a big deal on a camcorder. I just did it.
If anyone is thinking about going vegan, please don't use this video as guidance.
Get in touch with a local vegan group if you have one or get in touch with the Vegan Society. Google it for the address.
A question: Did you use or wear any animal products during this time? E.g. leather shoes, shampoos, soaps, etc? If so, you weren't vegan. I'm just saying.
It's a bit pointless cutting out animal ingredients in your food but using them in other areas of your life.
@TheSuperVegan I think the objective of this video was to try a vegan *diet* for a few months - for the purpose of the video - not to eliminate all animal products. It sounds like he didn't do his research very well, which would make transitioning harder. I don't think saying 'what are you whining about, I became vegan in one go and it was easy' is very encouraging to people who want to make the change. Why not acknowledge that it *is* hard for some people, and help them in their struggle?
So what kind of Vegan were you? Vegan-Vegetarian, Pesco-Vegetarian, Ovo-Vegetarian, Lactoovid-Vegetarian, or Semi-Vegetarian (because you know some vegetarians eat fish right?)
My girlfriend and I went vegan over 9 months ago and have found it manageable. Neither of us has gotten sick and its not very complicated. I think if you went about it in a more mature fashion you would have been fine. My 2c.
You weren't very good at being vegan. They have vegan subs for everything you missed. You obviously did not go at it very well if you fear deficiencies.
that is impressive, i'm a professional Chef, and to me - that sounds as crazy as "i can live without breathing". I feel like you are missing an essential part of the equation of life. I am not trying to convince anyone of anything, just sharing my thoughts.
@mosomos89 You said, "i'm a professional Chef, and to me - that sounds as crazy as "i can live without breathing". I feel like you are missing an essential part of the equation of life. I am not trying to convince anyone of anything, just sharing my thoughts."
Well, I've not eat animal flesh for 34 years and others have done it for much longer. I'm not just 'sharing my thoughts'. I'm sharing my experience.
It's like saying I've never lived in France but I think it must be awful.
I think, for this guy, it would have been easier if he'd have gone vegetarian first. Not such a drastic step and the imitation meats are supposedly closer.
On a closing note, I got so fed up with people telling me it was unhealthy that I ask my doctor for a total health check and the results were very positive. I'll never eat meat again.
I look forward to seeing the sequel. Or have you already made it?
as filming this it was kinda boring just telling the facts os i kinda did a mockumentry like i.e supersize me and it worked better as for my other videos there not that great some are just vacatuon videos and others got music taken away from them that would of been better :( im a fan of my enforcer video first film ever made :):) hope you like em and comment and rate i saw your video with the kid it was good thumbs up for that.
Well, I congratulate you. Well done. Did you try any vegan junk food? Ice cream, burgers and stuff? When I was a kid I did it a lot but now I have a treat a couple of times a week.
i guess but the experiment is over i lasted 3 months and i am proud of myself and i didnt have any vegan condoments at home so there was no flavor to the hot dog what so ever :(
@marcluc1988 def trial and error. I found a brand that is so realistic it's crazy. Tastes awesome. Slight difference from real meat, but throw it in a bun with condoments, I wouldn't know I'm not eating the flesh of a killed animal o_O.
Well, I'm glad you said it was a joke because I couldn't work out whether it was or not. It was interesting.
I'll have to watch it again to make up my mind properly but it wasn't MY experience.
I'm 41 and vegan and haven't eaten animal products since I was 9. I didn't find the sudden change at all drastic. I didn't like the taste of soya milk or tofu at first but they're okay after a bit.
If this was for real, I'd get the guy some 'vegan junk food' to lighten the experience....
...Health-wise, I didn't notice any improvement/deterioration in health but I was 9 so there probably wouldn't be. I didn't miss meat and found other vegan junk food that tasted great. 30 years on and I still treat myself to junk food from time to time. But I don't miss meat. I never did but I can imagine a lot of people would. Some of the imitation meat is nothing like the 'original' but sometimes it's pretty close. Close enough to satisfy any cravings, I think....
and pie is usually vegan -- made with vegetable shortening, no dairy.
Being vegan is really not that hard, but you didn't plan and weren't well informed.
And your comment -- "At what cost? At what cost?"
You could ask -- burgers taste good. But at what cost? What cost? Oh yes, the life of a sentient being that wanted to live. And your arteries. And the rainforest. Shit, that's a big cost!
He went about it in all the wrong ways. He needed to know about how to balance meals by making sure he was getting enough protein, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. There are plenty of vegan altervatives to egg and dairy products. I'm only vegetarian and I know this.
Speaking of which, he should have transitioned. He should have been a vegetarian for a while and then transitioned into veganism.
@GottaLoveMel oh so it's like in super size me where he only ate mcdonalds for a month because it's not like normal people eat anything besides mcdonalds.
@GottaLoveMel : your advise won't work, coz what i could figure from the video was that these guys are only trying make fun of vegans and veganisms. There is no intention of a genuine desire.
There are also loads of dairy and egg free recipes for baked goods. I made vegan-friendly chocolate cupcakes for my (picky, meat-eating) little sisters and they loved them. If you ever feel like cutting out meat, etc. again you should check out the video Earthlings (you can find it on google video). I hope you decide to make a more permanent change in the future (regardless of whether you're vegan or not - I hope you begin to eat healthier.)
Is this a joke? I don't think a vegan diet is that extreme. I've been vegan for a while now (after vegetarianism for over 4 years). There are vegan bagels, and there are other dairy substitutes (hemp milk, almond milk, oat milk, rice milk, etc.) You don't HAVE to eat tofu or any soy products. There's veggie bacon, ham, bologna, turkey, etc. Dairy-free cheeses, plenty of vegan options for breakfast. And there's no reason you should be iron deficient - eat green leafy veggies (kale, spinach, etc.)
You you were healthier, mind was clearer, and you were more regular, and yet you can't wait to go back to a diet that reverses all that...hmmmm.
This video was clearly a joke and not a very good one!
