Good point. Many of the excuses used to justify FGM mirror the reasons given for male infant circumcision in America. "It's cleaner." "Men like it better that way." Also, there are many boys who get circumcised at 6 or older. It is NOT just girls. It is only in America and jewish cultures where boys are circumcised as babies. Many other boys in the rest of the world are no younger than these girls when they get it done.

Want to talk about male circumcision, which no baby boys have died from I might add, go find the right video. Lastly, removing a piece of skin vs. a sexual organ, hummmm, wtf is worse and more horrifying? No one's saying that male circumcision is okay, it's just not as bad, think about it.

@linzee4584 Incorrect, about 100 baby boys die from circumcision every year. Even in medical settings it's not 100% safe. That's not even including the thousands that die from being cut in the bush in Africa. The foreskin is far more than a piece of skin, It's an entire body part that serves numerous sexual and pleasure functions.

FGM may be more severe, but worse is up for debate. And it's certainly no more horrifying. I'd say they are equally as horrifying as they both mutilate genitals.

you know, you make a lot of sense here, probably they will not be raping these girls if they were not circumcised as babies themselves. Circumcision affects the brain, more so, than when they become adults they threshold to pain is very low, also the brain is altered forever after this procedure according to one study done to a baby during circumcision, but US society don't want to keep these studies coming, it is pretty sad...

unfortunally FGM is also the removing of the clitoral hood and/or the labia, so that's why it IS in fact circumcision. And foreskin it is part of the penis, so the correct term to male circumcision is amputation as well. No matter how you slice it or how much you cut, it's all mutilation. Routine Infant Circumcision is wrong!

there are different grades of female circumcision, look it up please. The one that removes the clitoral hood is the same thing and even less damaging than male circumcision.

Of course you can tell when a man is cut. The size of the foreskin removed in a male circumcision is about 25 inches square of erogenous tissue that contains 20,000 nerve endings as opposed to 6,000 nerve endings on the clitoral hood. No matter how we cut it or how much, both are brutal mutilation. If we cut the labia of the women we will prevent lots of infections including yeast, uti and other std. But obviously, condoms and proper hygiene is a better choice than amputation.

You are right, cut males have fewer infections. BUT only during the first year and when cared for by those who are inept at caring for an intact male. But in all cases, the incidence of infection is so low that it really is not a consideration. Girls are 5 times as likely to get infections.

No linzee, cutting of the penis would be like removing the vagina, thus precluding sexual contact altogether. Removing the foreskin on a boy, or its equivalent, the removal of the clit/labia would remove much of the feeling of sex while still allowing it to be possible. FGM and MGM` ARE roughly equivalent. Neurologically, the nerves that, on a girl, are in the clit, on a boy are located in the foreskin. The labia are equivalent to the scrotum. We are more alike than we thought....

A surgeon who had no concerns about ethics could certainly remove a vagina. It is after all, a tubular structure inside of the body. And the clitoris is also mostly internal, only a small tip of it protrudes under a protective sheath. It is roughly wishbone in shape and straddles the vulvar region.
