Great video lads - nice & calm, no bad language, good gear, competent & confident on the rocks & with the fish (not a fan of those Boga-Grip type devices, but I can see how they can make landing fish from the rocks a bit safer for the angler), and ye didn't ruin it with some music that viewers may or may not like. Well done.
You reckon I could use my pike gear for lure fishing from rocks for bass? 12' 2.75lb TC rod, mid-size fixed spool with 15kg braid, and various pike lures.
@68Phaedrus Thanks for the comments, you could get away with using the pike rod/reel etc., but you would find a 10ft rod with a 10gr to 60gr load better for casting and playing fish in tight to the rocks. The reel is ok and as for baits and spinners etc., if you go to Mrkingfisher3.blogspot.com blog all the info is there for you on bass fishing.
Absolutely loved this video, I started to get a buzz from just watching it! I usually catch the ones that get through the nets. I haven't caught a double yet, and watching this gives me hope! P.B. 8&1/2 lbs. (8yrs ago)
suffering withdrawal symptoms from end of salmon season..this looks like the business,is it a good time to fish for bass now and where is closest to galway?co.clare??any info is very welcome
@flyingseamouse My best sea bass fishing has been in november / december when i have caught my biggest bass ( 20+lbs ) and the biggest quantity 65 in one session with pictures to prove it. Unfortunately as best to my knowledge bass seem to frequent the waters of north east, east, south and south west coasts but not as far up as galway. I have had anglers from galway emailing me that they don't meet them when sea fishing but you can use my flies and lures for pollack and coalfish.
@MrKingfisher3 Thanks for that info, promising to know.Sounds like you sell flies, lures etc..?will just have to head south on a camping trip and suss out potential fishing spots...ty
@flyingseamouse I just design flies for sea bass, salmon, monster trout in the colours that i think resemble the bait fish that they are feeding on and i repaint and strenghten cheap lures to the colours that i want and these work for me as you can see.
what sort of lure are you using? this place looks very similar to my local spot but i constantly seem to be snagging on rocks with a dexter wedge style spinner? Cheers
@ahstueyman I use spoon baits in various weights so that i don't get caught up in the reefs. I will use the lighter sizes around the reefs and the heavier sizes in open ground, i also study the reefs in different water levels and know when to raise up the spoon and when to drop it back down. The spoons are Toby and Kilty lures and also ABU Krills.
@IIFUSEII1 The legal limit is above 40cm and only two bass per angler per day except in close season when no bass can be taken. I would like to see a maximum limit as well so that all bass over 4 kilos should be returned as they are the breeding fish and will ensure the future population.
If you click the button next to ( 21 videos ) at the top of my video there are two fly fishing for bass videos showing there and i will be putting up some more soon.
super video..what a day you guys had,is it a secret location and what time of the year was it? I am from youghal and it looks like it is not too far from home..
as you can understand it took a lot of searching and checking out tides etc., before the bass were found but they have moved further up the coast recently and cork harbour had a good summer for bass as well as east cork.
I use spoon baits in various sizes/weights according to the depth of water that i'm fishing. I have a few favourite spoons like the Toby ,Krill, Kilty and i paint some with my own colour patterns but mainly it's how i put action into the spoon that makes them deadly.
I will be putting up a video soon to explain the type of action i put into the spoons that make them work so well. There is also a blog starting soon at mrkingfisher3.blogspot.com with tips on gear and fishing etc..
hows it going, great video, what rod and reel do you use for spinning? what weight lure? I live in Cork but dont know many spot would you have any pointers cheers
Hi Ronan, if you check out my (mrkingfisher3.blogspot.com) blog all the information is there. The rod is a Hardy 10ft (15 - 60gr ) casting rod and the reel is a Shimano Stradic 6000fb loaded with 12kilo braid (350m). I also have a 10ft Daiwa Regal ( 15 - 50gr ) casting rod which only cost me 45euro and is a great bass rod. The spoons are in various sizes from 10gram upto 40gr depending on depth and sea conditions that i'm dealing with and i will be showing all on a video soon.
Hi Thanks for the reply, I have one more question if I can please. I fish a similar place but from time to time it has big waves (4-5 ft) is it possible to fish with lures like rapala rapmax and suface poppers during these conditions or is it a waste of time. Ronan
Hi Ronan, to be honest when you have high waves with low troughs i don't bother because the bass rarely come in close enough to cover them, but when you have collapsing waves with deep troughs and foamy water then the bass will hunt right in along the shoreline. As for the poppers wait till you see surface action before using them, they work better when baitfish are about.Try spoon baits like Tobys and Kilty lures they work all year round and have caught me loads of specimens.
Best sea fishing vid ive seen yet! I hate sea fishing but this makes me want to do it, seriously!!! I like the thought of sea bass but just dont know where to fish for them! Nice one Mrkingfisher, defenitly the best yet. Fuuuk that dick hendry on tv, ive never seen him catch fish like this ever!!!!!!!!!!
Love it, fair play on the CnR too. One question, what time of day..? Early morn pre sunrise..? Does the mark fish for you regardless of time of high tide or only on an early morn or late evening high..?
what part of cork i this filmed in?
