Take a lesson pop singers of today! You DON'T need that infernal microphone stuck in front of your face or use it like some kind of crutch! Let the audience see your face -- sing to the camera, engage your audience! GOD BLESS KATE SMITH.
She was such a natural and she absolutely OWNED this song. It's sad that we, as a nation are currently so dysfunctionally politically correct that we won't declare this song our nation anthem simply because the scandalous word "God" is in it. [Sigh.]
If you're not old enough to remember listening to Kate Smith, then you're in for a treat. If you are old enough to remember Kate, then her singing will bring tears to your eyes. She really was an American treasure. Nobody could sing like Kate Smith! She sang so powerfully! I dare say that any station that played Kate Smith's "God Bless America" could play it everyday with no complaints at all! My Mom loved her, and Thank God Mom brought me up with Kate from when I was a little boy.
This should be required listening in every American history class. It would teach a new generation about Kate Smith, and it would remind everyone what a great country we live in.
Real class. The hippies along with the Beatles, Elvis destroyed our culture of class and caliber and denigrated us to slobs, whoremongers and perverts of today.
@Oldsauroraman Yes, i do agree with you. The hippies, Beatles did do a lot of damage with their eastern ideas. At least Elvis was more inclined towards Christianity. You also have to blame the liberals who most of them are former hippies. They have unfortunately infiltrated the universities and teach today's kids their liberal and aniti american ideas. That is why you see multiculturalism is the norm in today's US universities. This is tragic. Wish conservatism would come back and save America.
Music like this is gone forever. It will never come back. Thank God for Youtube that other generations can see what real music was like in the past. Hip hop, heavy metal and gangsta rap is not music at all. It is a stepping stone to moral decadence and also a decreasein American values. America will nevere be the same as it was before. With young americans following hip hop and rap culture and newer immigrants not wanting to be americans, this beautiful american culture will be extinct
What ever happened to music? The loud, vulgar, atonal junk created today is just dreadful. This, was music and Kate Smith was a singer. Nothing more, nothing less. Perfect marriage.
@parzifal40 Well said! Whatever happened to music? People left God, and He took those who could sing so beautifully, like Kate Smith, to be with Him. If it was beautiful and classy, it was sung years and years ago. If it's trashy and vulgar and reprobate, it's sung on the radio today.
@Beautifulmusiclistnr you know Kate needed a song , so she went to Irving Berlin and asked if he has any patriotic songs for her ,he asked if she was religious she said that she believes in God , so he went into a trunk of songs that were written years ago for world war one ,the war ended before the song could be produced and he handed her God Bless America , todays values are representative of todays music , so is any wonder why our country teeters on bankruptcy and moral decay , PRAY
@jhunted7667 Irving Berlin's best work. However, years ago a friend of mine pointed out that it was indeed Irving Berlin who, with two other songs managed to take God OUT of both Chistmas and Easter: "White Crhistmas" and "Easter Parade."
Interestingly, both were written 30 years after he wrote "God Bless America."
@jhunted7667 Yes America needs prayers. Once they struck down God in schools, you could see that the US started declining. Also you have to blame the liberal PC crowd that tries to keep the separation of chruch and state but only uses them, when they need them like Harry Reid using religious leaders to pass the DREAM Act , which is dispicable. Even american women are not classy like the women in the video. You hit the nail on the head with values and music of today. It is a real PITY
You are so right Bob. Susan and Kate's hand gestures are very similar.
Kate was a little before my time (when she was most popular) but I always loved her "Big" Voice and now maybe it's Susan's turn to show off her "Big Voice too. This is jus so nostalgic and wonderful.
thanks dear Parker for introducing me, this singer is new to me and you are right Susan boyle got much in comon, this singer has also an amazing voice, this gave me the goosebumbs

When it comes to a patriotic song, nothing written, nothing sung can equal Kate Smith singing God Bless America. Nothing.
