@warheart454 This was the original. It was an arcade game, that would be why you haven't seen it on any consoles (though someone probably transferred it onto some console by now), then they made Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast. Then they made the next bunch which you're familiar with.

This franchise went totally wrong when bandai came in the picture. That goes for all of namcos franchise games including tekken. I bought 3 an was like WTF? Then I got 4 an said smh.. terrible... bloody terrible. Yoda an darth vader?... I'm done. What's ironic is 3 is waaaay better than 4. Anyway This needs to be done in HD for xbox an ps3 asap.

I think the series needs to get back to it's roots. Soul Calibur 4 was total dump compared to this. It's surposed to be 16th century warriors from around the world. Not lizard men and women in purple bondage. Total nonsense!

I've never played this game (Only played SC3 and 4) but it looks like it's aged pretty well compared to other 3D fighters of its time, in terms of both graphics and gameplay.

@WakeAsGun I Too have both SoulCalibur 3 and 4 and i have to say.. the only thing they have improved in those games, bessides the graphics is Voldo!! Mainly his moves and the ability to block while facing backwards. But the gameplay not so much. They removed the "combo" feature which i reckon.. sucks xP and i know u never played this before but still xD.. i recommend you try it, you'll love it way more than SoulCalibur ;D

man Mitsurugi's style was a lot more "fast paced" in the first game. Seemed more combo oriented than it is now. I perfer the style he has now actually(as it takes a lot more time and discipline to perfect and master and shows how deep of a character he is). No button mashing when it comes to Mitsu :-D

@SageofSorrow I think the reason Namco changed Mitsurugi's style was because it was very similar to Hwang, and they wanted to avoid having too many characters similar to each other. They obviously had a choice to keep only one characters SE style and create a new one for the other, and it made more sense to change Mitsurugi because you can fight the guy who trained Hwang in SE, and he has the moveset as well, and yes, I realize your comment is old-ish.

oh man, Mitsurugi is my fav, you only use two moves, you dont even know how to throw, or take advantage of back facing, and next time press down forward at the same time and B, instead of up + B, its faster.

After we finished watching the movie, me and my sister chose Soul Edge out of every arcade game and we began to play against each other by her using Sophitia and me using Siegfried.

I'd have to say 3 is pretty good, Legends was the most shameful one, with it's narrow character selection. At least 3 let one reminisce by letting you unlock custom character versions of the Soul Blade characters like Hwang and Li Long
