Evolution does not stop at one individual and say "This is an X". It's funny you use that example. One of my bachelors degree is in mathematics, and I see the stark contrast of rational thinking between those in the sciences and those who are not. Not to say that you have to be in science to be smart, but the US plays down science education, especially in the south.
