  • It is amazing I dont understand the language. However, there is a tangible felling of great commitment and deep seated conviction in the singing. Thanks.

  • Thank you Wisemonkey8. The translation of the words appear under the "info" part on the right. This is one of the iconic prayers for the high holy days. This setting, however, is not the one that most service goers think of - there is a BIG Sh'ma Koleinu by Helfman that I have posted. I really don't enjoy singing it as it just doesn't suit my voice. But some people think - it isn't Yom Kippur without the Helfman :))

  • Moving tribute and lovely singing. Moishe Oysher was also my maternal grandmother's favorite. I knew Nettie Rosenblatt (she loved basketball), Yossele Rosenblatt's daughter, who lived till 100. Gershon Sirota was terrific as were the Koussevitzkys and, needless to say, Richard Tucker was exceptional. Of course, there were other great ones, including Hershman (my paternal grandfather's favorite), Kwartin, and the opera singer, Jadlowker, who had incredible coloratura agility. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you for your personal insights - it is always wonderful to hear of direct contact with the descendants of these cantors. I couldn't include them all, and in fact, I am not familiar with many that you mentioned - but I will look them up :))

  • Beautiful singing and powerful video. Thanks, Rowna.
