This snake is the common Yellow Rat snake not the Everglades variant, the Everglades Rat snake has a Red iris and a Red tongue and has a distinctly Orangish coloration. In this video you can see clearly a black tongue which Everglades do not have.
don't get up in his face. he won't be biting your camera. jeez. snakes are somewhat like people, even though they taste like chicken. interesting vid. never heard of the everglades ratsnake before i watched this. i'm used to bullsnakes and prairie rattlers.
Nice video! It's great to see someone appreciate a wild snake, and then let it be. Whenever I see a snake or turtle on the road, I stop and shoo them off.
LOL a "true" everglades, would it suprise you to know many ratsnakes interbreed, yellows and blacks...ect lol!
and it isnt trying to MIMIC another snake my freind, its a shared defense trait, such as them vibrating their tails... thank you v much for sharing this video :)
Not a true Everglades ratsnake unfortunately, the genuine article has a red tongue and eyes and a deep orange color, sadly the original version interbreeds with the yellow rat snake you see here
When I was in the Everglades on a holiday I saw a jet black snake on Tamiami trail... what type of snake could it of been?

@swampman4 I agree it looks like a yellow rat snake. I see the 1 line on his back and 1 on each side of him. Looks like a yellow rat to me.

I don't like snakes, but I like anybody who respects and helps all of God's creatures and tries to protect them, and preserve the land.
