  • thanks for this video!

  • omg u people are annoying!! why did you youtube how to spot a fake opi if u come on here and say well nail polish is nail polish..who knows what crap they put in these fake brands...so shutup.. great vid!!!! :)

  • I tottaly agree with you, crapy nail polish should not be sold for almost 9 dollars. I am so gonna take you advice. :)

  • fake nail polish? people these days are freaking nuts

  • Really, it's nail polish. You made a whole video like someone is really gonna care if your wearing fake opi. >_>

  • @AlyssaBarrett1 I don't think you and others understand. It's about the money and value. You don't want to pay 9/10 dollars for something that has the value of 1 dollar. Real OPIs have amazing quality and that is what you expect when you pay for one (which is why they're pricey) If you get the quality of something that is worth $1 then you just got jipped and you're not very smart with your money. If you want to be cheap than go on ahead. Some of us just like to get what our money is worth.

  • blah blah who would buy nail polish for ten bucks anyway! OPI here in ATL is 8 bucks which is why I have yet to buy 1 ill just wait for it to become a gift!

  • @missusfingerbottom if it has a small hole on the P it is legitimate :)

  • i just bought my first one today online. the brush is wide, it has the opi written on it at the top of brush, the lid is a matt black, it has the serial number on the bottom rim, but the bottom label looks different, though it is green and also it is kinda clear in colour definitely needed 3 coats. i bought 'need sunglasses' which looked sunshine yellow in the pics i saw (online) but it is orange/yellow -the colour of egg yolk :( which im quite disappointed about. any advice?

  • I hope your boyfriend doesnt mind you hating on his present

  • Thanks for making this video. It was very helpful.

  • I sure hope your BF hasn't seen this video... :'(

  • Never buy nail polish for mel b on eBay hers are fake.. Just sayin...

  • Yay!, none of mine is fake! Thnx this helped a lot xx

  • well, apparently all 6 of my bottles of OPI are fake according to you.

    .-. great.

  • helpful video. i just checked my collection and only 1 seems to be fake... i bought that from a salon too. i just ordered a ton from ebay though, hopefully those will not be fake D:. and to the people who say who cares, opi isn't a cheap drugstore polish. you want to get your money's worth if you're paying up to $10 for a bottle!!!

  • Wow..picky much? Nail polish is nail polish!!

  • @kcountrygirl09 if i wanted dollar quality nail polish i'd buy it from the dollar store, it just sucks to pay 10 dollars for a bad product.. and it also sucks to be mislead. its like paying for a fake Coach bag that you thought was authentic.

  • thank you so much!! i didnt now that! thank god Ive boughted orginal!

  • I have this bottle of nail polish called "what's a tire jack" and it's Sephora by opi.... Then I have a white bottle of polish that's called A-ha moment. The brush says opi... But the black doesn't have it. Could I have a fake bottle of polish? I hope not:(

  • I bought mine from Stop&Shop.. I guess it's fake :(

  • According to you, all my OPI nail polish is fake...

  • this was really helpful!! i wish i had seen it a day earlier though.. i bought one just today and as soon as i opened it and put it on i felt something was WAY off. i ignored initial intuition when purchasing it because i checked the bottle before buying and knew the shade name was legit (because i had specifically been looking for that shade). using it, the smell was definitely off, and it was really runny, even after shaking. it's been 3 hrs and it's already chipping off! ARG. CONNED.

  • its just nail polish y does it matter i bet u gonna use it anyways it was kinda pointless!!!

  • OMG!!! the same thing happened to me recently too!! For my birthday, my boyfriend bought me Mad as a Hatter and as soon as I opened it, I knew there was something reallyyy off. It smelled cheap, and the color was a little off from the real one. I noticed the same exact things as you said in the video!! I felt so bad for him but now he knows what to look out for haha

  • OPI said on FB is that the only way to truly tell is if the product is genuine is by testing the product yourself. So do yourselves a favor and just stick to authorized sellers or amazon/ebay users that have proven true. Also keep in mind that OPI's list of sellers is not all inclusive as authorized sellers choose to list themselves, which means they can be official sellers and just have not listed themselves on the website. Hope this helps!

  • Thanks for the info, I do care, because I don't wanna be paying $8.50 for a bottle of OPI when is not an OPI! Thank you so much! :)

  • why are you making so big problem about a faken and real one the both beautyfull

  • I have two polishes that are im pretty sure are real because I bought them from an authorized dealer and well known salon. They have everything they should have, even the right smell, texture, colour and stuff but they don't have 4 symbols on the back. Is it just because packaging is different now? =\

  • just relized from watching this video that half of my OPI nail polish collection is fake.

  • lmao, i would have marched my ass right back into that salon and i would have gotten my boyfriends money back.

  • I get that....... I just dont truly care if u pay one dollar for opi then I hope that u can expect the cons the pros are the opi bottle, lol glad some1 cares

  • OMG I just looked at my OPI's after watching this video and I found a fake one wtf!!! Im in shock, Im a cosmetologist how did this happen?

  • OMG, I am a professional nail tech & while I know that there is a difference between the cheap & expensive as you put it, no 1 truly cares and if you do I hope your being paid too!!! I dont use harmful products, and if you pay 1 dollar for OPI then yes, you should be smart enough to know your NOT buying a ny strip dinner at mcdonalds , Im just saying if you simply wanted the color which is the ONLY reason Id buy cheap then go for it OPI label or not pretty color is what out rules the bad!

  • @PhreshLacquer The problem is that people are paying $10 for OPI and getting a cheaply made, runny product. And it's illegal to sell a product that is a copy of something that is copyrighted. And there is a difference between OPI and dollar polishes. It applies nicer and lasts longer. The brush is also better.

  • OMG thank you so much for this...I have been buying soooo much on the net lately....I mean a lot of money!!! And I thought something wasn't right the other day with one. Now I am going to go through all of them!! Thanks again....seriously!

  • I buy all my OPI polishes from departmental stores so I know they are real. One thing I noticed is the "OPI" engraving on top of the handle has a little dent in the "P". All my bottles had that. I was wondering if that is also a mark that the OPI is authentic.

  • I don't think the green one is fake, i only think the pink one is just a newer collection!

  • @xmartinex11 no the green is fake. its a non-opi nail polish in an opi bottle because its named "creme of crete" and if you google it.. creme of crete isnt green. it also smells like coloured childrens glue and goes on like water.

  • Ok, 10 dollars is a no no I have seen it for 2-3 bucks & thats the most Id pay for a faux polish the color was the same it is a cheaper lacquer- the brush isnt a pro wide but it is functional and hadnt I not seen this video I wouldnt know so, thnx 4 that =)

  • ??? but who cares.......this is kinda OCD!

  • @PhreshLacquer its just the fact that your paying 10 dollars for something thats only worth $2 and that people are profiting off the label. its illegal

  • @PhreshLacquer if im paying $10 for a nail polish, it better be what I'm paying for (in this case OPI). I don't wan't to get ripped off. If I wanted a $3 nail polish, I would go out and buy one.

  • Wow! i never knew that, a have lots of OPI nail polishes. Now i want to make sure they're legit. Great video and helpful tips

Omg i just checked and one fake got into the collection.

  • Wow! i never knew that, a have lots of OPI nail polishes. Now i want to make sure they're legit. Great video and helpful tips

  • Only the polish is fake. If you read OPIs facts they introduced the ProWide in 2006 and the Greek Isles were from 2004.

  • what camera is this?

  • ohhh! ok! thank you!

  • The easiest fastest way to spot fake OPI Polish is to look at the warning symbols on that back....real OPI has 4 warning symbols and fakes only have 3.

  • I have a SUPER old opi nail polish, or so i thought. When i compared a new one to my old one, the bottle was smaller, it didnt have all the details. Is this just because its really old, or was/is it fake?

  • @Liz2zy hmm its hard to say.. it could have still been real, since the OPI packaging has changed over the years.

  • the bottles are the same...

  • thanks for the hints. i've suspected that i've bought some fakes from the phillipines in a department store but never knew how to prove it.

  • The polish INSIDE the bottle is not original OPI, but both bottles are real. You can't do direct comparisons of one bottle produced in 2004, and another bottle in 2008. Compare the 'Cream of Crete' bottle to another from the Greek Isles collection, instead of one from the India collection. Most of the 'fake' OPI are just old. I have one from 1995 that has no warnings on the back at all.

  • @Erniesduck123 i know. this is an old video.

  • Your eyes are frightening

  • both opi that you have is fake

  • @kristyjxo Thanks alot!!! I just realized that 1 out of 5 opi polishs that I have IS FAKE!!! No serial #,lables is different, brush is smaller & no opi stamp on the brush handel. The best part of all is that I got that particular polish free!!!!

  • You can differentiate whether it is fake OPI or real OPI by shaking the bottle, if there is sound, then it is real as there are two steel balls in the real OPI.

  • all the opi i bought in sephora had 3 symbols at the back..

  • Just an fyi. While it's clear the polish isn't correct the bottle looks legit. Don't start thinking you were jipped based on just the bottle. Before OPI when 3 free the font was black on the bottom (cream of crete did use the old formula). Also the older brush's do look small like that. And all my older bottle have lids are slightly shinier.

  • Thank you for making this video. I heard from O.p.i bout this and it made me wondering.I bought mines for cheaper and it was the read thing.

  • And when I say the bottle has been filled with a different color, I mean what happened to Kristy. It would be blatantly obvious that it's wrong. (As she stated in her video, Cream of Crete is supposed to be white. Her polish is bright green). So if you're buying a polish called "Purple With A Purpose" and it's red, the bottle has been filled with a different color.

  • Ok people, let me reassure you that it is VERY rare to actually come across a true fake OPI. And if you do, it's usually of a rare, expensive, sought after polish, the bottle has been filled with a different color, or "OPI" is spelled wrong on the bottle. kapkone, I'm sure it's real. OPI has changed their bottle and label design many times through the over 20 years they've been making polish.

Google search "Ainnir How to identify your OPI polish" if you still have doubts.

  • HOLY CRAP ! Do you think the ones sold on ebay could be fake D:

I know ebay is full of fake Mac brushes but it didn't come tho mind that there would be fake OPI's too ><"

    PLEASE RESPOND !

  • Even if the label has green words, it still can be fake because I have one and I am pretty sure it's fake. No serial number either but most of my OPI polishes all have the barcode label though, odd.

  • @StandardLinez that is just horrible. I am really sorry they did that to you. I just bought some OPI from ebay and don't know if it's real or fake. The question mark puts me off using them...don't know what nasty chemicals are inside if they're fakes : (

  • I bought Totally Tangerine from ebay. The brush looks like the green polish you have and the lid is rougher/grainier in texture than the other opi polishes I own. There is a serial no engraved on the bottle but it doesn't match the barcode on the label. The label is brown rather than green (but there is the 2 layers). The font looks convincing and there are 2 steel balls inside the bottle. The color also looks like online swatches I googled. The serial code is NL B41-EU. Do you think it's fake?

  • to be honest, its probably new polish in an old bottle... Not all OPI bottles are exactly alike. The pro-wide brush is not on every bottle, in fact, I have MANY bottles of legit OPI that do not have the pro-wide brush. Bottles from around 5 years ago differ greatly from those you get today.

Someone probably dumped out the real polish and put fake stuff in...

  • Comment removed

  • all of my opi's have the opi printed on the brush and the colours matched when i checked on google but some don't have a serial number on them and some have a curved shape to the inside bottom of the polish. are they real?

  • @boredoutmybrain yes. im 99.9 sure they would be real. some of my polish bottles have that shape you're describing and alot of merchants remove the serial numbers as well. the ones i got from meijer and target have the serial numbers shaved down. im not sure why, but the polishes are still the proper color, formulation and quality.

  • That's just an old bottle of OPI. OPI changed the layout of the bottles, including the label on the bottom. They just filled the bottle with a different polish.

  • @cu627 True, the item could've been fake but just an fyi OPI had changed their labels on the bottom when they went 3 free. So the labels with black labels are considered old bottles with the old formula and the green labels are the newer bottles. Whoever made the fake opi did a damn good job at it, aside from that mini mistake lol.

  • @cu627 The spelling is correct. It's supposed to be spelled Cream of Crete, not Creme of Crete. The bottle is totally real. Only thing that isn't is the polish inside.

  • @sugarmedic79 woops u are right...i was thinking of creme de menthe (which is spelled like that. lol)

  • I liked your video... We believe in challenging the status quo... We believe in thinking differently, you can see how here.

  • @joannjesuskalea08 haha well it's a rip off to get awful quality nail polish for 10 dollars.

  • @joannjesuskalea08 it's not about materialism, it's about rip off!!! it's like buying nike shoes for 100$ and their are fake!

  • OPI polishes that came out before 2006 don't have the ProWide brush. And OPI has been around since 1989, so there are a LOT of OPI polishes with a thin brush, not a ProWide one (and no OPI written on the brush), and they're totally legit. Sounds like the salon just replaced the actual CoC with that green, but everything else about the bottle is real OPI. Green labels indicate the new 3Free formula, black labels are just older and are not 3Free. Still real OPI.

  • @sugarmedic79 ohhh okay, real bottle, fake colour. gotcha. as if they even kept a bottle that old around for so long.

  • @kristyjxo Are you trying to sound sarcastic? (I'm not being rude, just asking) The internet isn't the best for gauging tone of voice.

  • @kristyjxo Just because if it was sarcastic, salons really DO have polish from years and years and years ago. That's one of the ways people are able to find polishes that have been long since discontinued. The bottle is totally legit, seriously. That's an authentic OPI bottle no question.

  • @sugarmedic79 haha sorry, it wasnt meant to be sarcastic, i just meant that its sad that this particular salon kept this bottle around long enough just to fill it with a non-OPI polish just to rip people off.

  • @kristyjxo Totally agree. Rude and bizarre of them!!

  • @sugarmedic79 i had thought to go and confront them but they had already gone out of business!! guess they had it coming to them.

  • great video

  • can you post a picture of the back of the opi bottle please?

  • @nuttynicky390 of the green fake one? i might have thrown it out but if i still have it ill take a picture and send you the link.

  • @kristyjxo thank you that would be great

  • i like how you colored your eyes.

  • what nail color do you have on its reallly preety

  • @juicyroom it's the color to watch by opi with mad as a hatter by opi over it on my ring finger : ) i love that combination

  • OMG! I had no idea FAKE OPI was even out there, thank you so much for this. I will definitely be more careful buying online. People are DISGUSTING for doing this. Poor our boyfriends trying to buy us nail polish and people gotta be jerks and sell this crap. Makes me mad. GRRRRRRRRRRR. Thank you for posting...:)

  • @blubeardgo im glad it helped!! and yeah it really sucks that this is out there : (

  • Just so you know, the ProWide brush wasn't the standard brush since 2006/7. Also, the labels haven't been consistent throughout the years, same goes for warning symbols on the bottle. Old bottles have different lettering on the label, and 4 warning labels.

Only if the color would be completely off I'd consider it to be a fake. Usually they're just old.

  • Correction: the old bottles have only 2 warning symbols, no ProWide brush and black lettering on the label.

  • @Chanty87 oh, yeah none of my bottles are nearly that old.. ive only been collecting OPI since last summer. i would be angry if i went to a salon today and they sold me one of those lol

  • I checked my opi nail polish that I bought on eBay last year & I compared them to my opi from ulta, the ones from eBay are fake!! I wish I watch this video before I bought opi on eBay :(

  • @paisleyandpearls oh no!! that sucks : ( are they pretty colours at least?

  • I added this to my beauty blog. Hope that's ok. I think this is great information! I won't add the link cause I don't want to spam. Just wanted you to know.

  • @aquebede no problem! what's your blog? :)

  • @kristyjxo Thank you. It's uhapi.wordpress(dot) com

  • you might want to check your orange one to see if it has 4 warning pictures on the back. when you held it up the pictures looked pretty big (they are normally kinda small). but yeah, if there is only 3 pictures its fake. there is always 4 on real OPI polishes

    hope this helps :)

  • @idkmybfflara yeah i know i used to worry about that too after reading nail polish blogs. it can be an indicator but not a reliable one since a lot of the newer bottles have 3 warning labels. when i went to trade secret to get the swiss collection they all had 3 symbols so i didnt buy any.. but the bottles had 3 symbols every where i went. the burlesque ones i have have 3 symbols..but i know they're real. its pretty hard to duplicate those colours and the brush, too. so i think it just varies?

  • @kristyjxo thats a relief haha. i ordered three polishes off amazon and all of them had three pictures, but everything else was fine. thank you for the information!

  • @idkmybfflara haha well i hope im not wrong lol. what colours did you get? and was shipping expensive?

  • @kristyjxo i got you don't know jacques!, just a little rosti at this, and ski teal we drop. ski teal we drop is the one i was the most supicious about because it was wayyy darker than i expected. and no shipping wasn't bad, including shipping they were each about 4 or 5 dollars.

  • @kristyjxo: Yes, an OPI polish can have 3 warning symbols an be real. OPI posted that on their facebook page recently.

  • @jessi5720 excellent :) that is good news

  • thank you for doing this haha i will definitely have to check them out now =]

    great video!

  • kristy omg ur eye makeup is gorgeous in this video.

  • I would have never know the difference! This helped a ton! :)

  • Great video Kristy! :)
