Hey! Its me, 'Kaolinite.' lol! ^_^ Thanks everyone for your support! Yes, the wings are heavy, about 35lbs...it is all supported by a corset and a belt. I wanted to do more on stage, like 'rush' into battle, but I really couldn't walk that fast with all the weight. All I can say is that I'm very fortunate for winning 2nd place overall at AX; there were so many awesome cosplayers there - everyone was AMAZING!
It was months of work! Each wing is a large cut out piece of felt attached to a wire structure. The wire structure is 12 gauge wire, the kind you make fences out of. The wings are then jb welded to a center piece which are made out of pipes.
(continued) The felt of the wings are dyed and feathers are glued onto it. I have a backplate sticking out of my corset with a flag pole carrier attached to it. That way, the middle piping of my wings slide into place into the flag pole carrier, keeping them on my back.
Its on her website the cosplay cost her $1000 to make.
