If you want to show off your new 1958 to 1970 stereo sets, you play things like this. I'm still looking for his version of "Jungle Drums". My copy is missing. Esquivel Rules!
Conoces a Combustible Edison? J.
My favorite song from 1959 (I still have the original 45)! The odd jew's-harp-sounding intrument is a 17th Century French piano-like invention called an ondoline. Thus the inspiration for the song's title.
during my early twenties i was obsessed with les baxter and martin denny, but when i finally discovered esquivel i never looked back. his music is a lot quirkier, way more fun to listen to, and shockingly inventive, and without any of the sometimes almost racist, exoticist undertones of the other lounge musicians that made me feel guilty for enjoying them (the same reasons for feeling weird about liking peter sellers in the party). thank you very much for posting this!
This is the music that plays in my head when I walk up to the local shops: Waving to the locals, ruffling the hair of a local street-urchin, catching an apple from the greengrocer, high-fiving a traffic warden...
I've discovered Esquivel this past year. It addictive. I can just imagine the reaction from listeners back in the day. Stereo just coming out & blowing the minds of listeners. Don't get much better then this. I was born in '71 but, today's music just has no SOUL...this does.

I used to collect Esquivel specifically because I thought the music was so cheesy and horrible.
Now I love it. :)
