Great upload. I have been looking for this game for years. I remember watching it as a teenager back in a warm living room. For some reason, I had remembered more blowing snow than what seemed to be on this clip. I guess that it shows how the old memory can play tricks on you, but none the less conditions were sure brutal. Would love to be able to see more games from this era.
This brought tears to my eyes, not just for the sorrow of seeing Saskatchewan lose on Larry Robinson's famous field goal, but mainly for bringing back to life this playoff game. The archival importance is incalculable. I hope that more televised CFL games from this era are still out there and will soon be viewable. It would be amazing if the 1972 West final (Winnipeg versus Saskatchewan) can be found and placed on youtube as was done with this third game of the 1970 West Final.
@cflisthebest It would have been broadcast in colour. This is just a black-and white kinescope recording -- videotape was considered too expensive to use to record and archive a broadcast like this.
@cflisthebest It was broadcast in color, however CBC did not start archiving their VTR material in color until towards the end of 1971. I certainly remember watching it in Color at home in Calgary...This is a brilliant upload...I've been searching for this game for years. Those were the days when the western final was best of 3 and the east final two game total point...the football of my youth.
Plese. please..............don't talk about wind chill. It's NOT taken seriously. If it's 3 above, it's still behind the the Ice Bowl !!

@robcas123 That would make sense. We had wicked cold weather that weekend in the upper Midwest.

Remember that Canada used Fahrenheit scale for temperatures in 1970.

Fahrenheit and Celsius intersect at -40 anyway, so would scarcely matter!
spectrebilly 4 months ago
@spectrebilly in 1970, canada still use old english system, so they use fahrenheit in 1970!
