  • i love this song! u did great.

  • is this called the last post or is it something different?

  • i like it but your tunging is a bit choppy. should work on it. and its played by a buggle originaly so therw is no fingerings its all open notes

  • taps is the shit. Jimi Hendrix blended into his National Anthem at Woodstock, but it never gets mentioned. I still think it's best on trumpet., though.

  • @crushsatan taps is alot more important, jimi hendrix can go fuck himself, taps is the best song you can play on the trumpet!

  • @14bdubz incorrect. TAPS is not a song. It is a bugle call. In my opinion TAPS is a great and beautiful call to play, but I think it sounds better on bugle and without vibrato. The vibrato is a little to much for TAPS, and also TAPS already sounds amazing if you play it right. @eneds i hate to call you out but you did play this incorrect. If you would like I can send you a link to the correct site to get sheet music for bugle calls. You also took this waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to fast.

  • so greatful... im a trumpet in the riverview raider band, my dad was in the ARMY for 21 and a half years he served as a fist-sergeant for 32nd-infantry unit.

  • Hey guys guess what? It's all open. It's also all second valve. Oh, and all first valve. Wait, it can also be played first and second valve. Don't forget second and third valve! And first and third valve. All three valves can be used too. Wow, good thing we got that out of the way! I had to make sure everyone else reading these comments knew that I know what I'm talking about! /sarcasm

  • @hangsel it's valves 1 and 3.

  • Nice man, It's real hard to play with a nice tone outside because your sound just floats away, but this was really good!

  • k thanks

  • can u send me the notes? plz in junior high and I wanna learn them

  • @hangsel27 I believe it's all open.

  • @hangsel27 GGC...GCE#...GCE#...GCE#...GCE#...CE#GE#CG...GGC THAT IS FOR TRUMPET

  • @MendotaTech Actually that would be wrong. Just saying. E#? Its F and You don't play taps that way.

  • @MidnightRoseThorn I stand corrected. However, I do not understand. I play taps all open... Please, enlighten me on this... Thank You! :)

  • @MendotaTech Most of the time everyone plays it all open. Depends on how you play. Your welcome(:

  • @MidnightRoseThorn Hey, I apologize if you get a spam message, my computer is being worked on

  • @hangsel27 its all open

  • At my school we have one trumpet player play taps each year. Well our senior is graduating this year. It will be me next year, seeing as i am next in line. Currently i am a freshmen and am in first chair. Wish me luck.

  • @50Yorktown goodluck

  • what r the notes?

  • @mcmayo16 its all open G and C and E... Its the easiest but you need to get the high notes...

  • just gonna say something to the random jerks on youtube who just came here to brag about being a bugler. all you have to do is imagine the notes and play them. which is easy if you can play trumpet

  • glad my grandpa made it out of the pacific

  • Great playing...a little long on the final note but otherwise a heartfelt performance.

  • Thumbs up!

  • "THE WORDS TO TAPS" Day is done. Gone the sun. From the lakes. From the hills. From the sky. All is well. Safely rest. God is nigh. Fading light. Dims the sight. And a star, Gems the sky. Gleaming bright. From afar. Drawing nigh. Falls the night. Thanks and praise. For ourdays. Neath the sun. Neath the stars. Neath the sky. As we go. This we know. God is nigh.
  • 5 people are terrorists.

  • Sorry about Daniel.

  • @Dragonruler100 This melody was composed by a mexican bugler at the Alamo

  • @2321847 you are completely fucking wrong. this bugle call was actually a revision of an existing bugle call called tattoo. general daniel butterfield of the army corps during the civil war wanted a better bugle call for the days end because the one they had just didn't fit the serenity of the night and days end. so he had his bugler, oliver willcox norton, come to him and they made a new call. it was first played in july of 1862. if you want more information on the origin of taps google it.

  • When i play this i usually play on an actual bugle. you probably played this open?? usually when i practice my bugle calls on a trumpet i use 1 and 3. i think it sounds closer to the bugle i use then open. but nonetheless u did a great job of playing this.

  • @alerch95 he actually missed some of the bugle call. he only repeated the middle section twice instead of the three times. but still, the meaning is still the same even if its wrong

  • @211kschlickusmc u apparently don't know what i was saying.

  • Great job!

  • This was sadly played at my Grandfathers funeral. He passed not even 4 months ago. He was a POW in the military and a police officer for many years. I miss him so much. RIP

  • @PersonThatRandom my grandpa on my dads side died on may 18 this year and he was a fighter pilot, so the Navy Honor Guard was there to bury him and my grandpa on my mom's side was a Marine in Vietnam so he teared up when the taps were played. i feel your pain

  • Respect.

  • You know your a hero when you go out to war.You know your a warrior when you leave everything behind. But you know your a true guardian when you dont return.Sorry about Daniel

  • @USMC1775FTW Do you agree with me about how Taps is ment to show respect for the lost or fallen?

  • Very Good! But you played it wrong.

  • I agree and he needs to take this video off and redo it

  • Amazing. You know what, this song is sad when you hear it but when people say that the person didn't play the song right, it's even more sad because it's almost like you're saying that they're not honoring their fallen comrades right. Doesn't matter how you play it, he was just honoring someone who passed. Instead of saying faults, show your respect for the deceased.

  • @MrBluenano All my friends think it sounds cool. They dont know what it means.... Semper fi daniel, rest in peace.

  • @MrBluenano yes, but it does matter to play it right. especially for military bearing.

  • I would hear this every night at Camp Parks. It's really sad, I never liked hearing it. RIP Daniel K.

  • If that doesn´t bring a tear into your eye, nothing will.

    Great respect from Germany.

  • sf16montana: Its not the notes of the song that matter, its the meaning and passion behind the notes. I can't believe someone is ignorant and selfish enough to say something so rediculous: "Take the video off the internet". He even played it really well, what could possibly be so offensive about it. I know for a fact that I am way younger than you, but I am not half as ignorant.

  • sf16montana: Your an immature idiot, piece of shit. This guy is honoring someone who gave his life for YOU, me, and the rest of us, and all you can say is he missed part of a note. You obviously have no understanding of the meaning of this song. You should be deported, your not even American.

  • @nosekta well. it's not that he should take it off. it's the simple fact that the guy who played it is as ignorant you are that he played it wrong then posted it. we all know the meaning of taps. i myself play it at funerals every fucking week for my fallen brothers and sisters. you probably have heard this like twice in your entire life so who are you to tell somebody that this guy played it well when infact he didn't. this should be reposted the right way. to honor daniel the right way.

  • @nosekta I am an American and have given 21 years of my life to the military. AGAIN, i said he did a great job playing what he did but AGAIN it is wrong. You didn't miss a verse of the National Anthem and say its ok, do you??

  • @nosekta P.S. By the way i am learning to play the bugle as we speak and i will post it on YouTube when i am good enough. Please look for my post in the future. I'm learning so i can play at Veterans funerals as i personally feel every Veterans deserves a live Bugler.

  • @nosekta I'm more American than you'll ever be hving served 21 years in the World's Finest United States Navy. I'm learning to play Taps on my bugle JUST so i can have the privilege of playing at a Veterans funeral. So please don't question how American i am. What have you done for this great Country of ours? Thats what i thought...NOTHING!

  • Nice! rip Daniel K.

  • we did this yesterday. my sixth grade teacher made our whole class go out on the front lawn and plant flags in the ground. The whole school did it. Then, my social studies teacher made mr foley come out and play taps and the star spangled banner on trumpet.

  • *Salute*

    SPC Heffner

    U.S. Army

  • Simply stunning

  • How can you argue on a video like this? Some people make me sick... Good job playing it and I'm sorry about Daniel.

  • that was Perfect ..... I Give you 10

  • u got it men.....:)

  • This just makes me proud to be an american and I can't wait to get out of college and become a Marine. I'm sorry about Daniel but I know he was a great man.

  • How lovely...just brings back memories.

  • Comment removed

  • No califla?

Maybe this was just a memorial service.

Maybe burn and urned, then spread on the grass?

What was the cause of his passing?

  • ok dont give me a thumbs downni just want an answer who is Daniel k.

  • Rhythm isn't consistent. Notes 7,8 and 10,11 are even eighths, not dotted eighth-sixteenth like before. (Actually missed 13,14,15). Cut off most of the beginning note.

Out of respect, you should take down this video and re-record it.

  • @pcarn9 Taps isn't supposed to be played straight according to the music. Taps is written out as a guideline. It is meant to be played flowing with passion as the buggler feels necessary, never straying from the basic boundaries of the music. Listen to taps at Arlington or Presidential funerals (especially Kennedy's). Slight changes/mistakes make it all the more memorable. Think before you speak!!!

  • @HunterPilot24 The fact that some notes weren't played as written is a minor point.

The major problem is that he completely left out 3 notes. That is not acceptable, period.

  • @David37405 yes sir. i really want to punch this guy for posting this. not for the reasons but for playing it completely wrong. with all those gaps between notes and wrong duration of notes and staccatos that should never be in taps. it's a horrible rendition of taps. the worst in fact

  • @211kschlickusmc I'm glad me and you are the only ones with pride in the playing of Taps. Its not just any old song like alot of people think it is. There is great meaning and sacrifice that this song represents. As a fellow Bugler it really does piss me off that the guy misses 3 notes and people think it ok. UNBELIEVABLE!!

  • @HunterPilot24 Let's get this straight once and for all. Taps is a "call" NOT a "song". A bugle call is a means of communication between a battlefield commander and his men. It must be precise and exact. It is not open to the "interpretation" of the bugler. Songs are "played"; a bugle call is "sounded". The horn player in this video is an excellent trumpet player, but as a bugler, he needs a little work.

  • @HunterPilot24 you are correct in that it should be flowing with passion. but there is actually music written out since 1862 by general daniel butterfield of the army corps during the civil war. you should not miss notes in taps. me being a marine bugler find it very disturbing to find this on the internet

  • I think this guy needs to take down this video and play it right. He missed 3 notes (10,11,12) and to me its disrespectful to play such a meanful song wrong.

  • I think you should re-write this comment for spelling "meaningful" wrong. It's disrespectful to spell such an easy word wrong.

  • Listen hear RETARDO! Why can't the guy take off this video and put up one done right, thats all we're saying. Join the military and the song will be more than just 24 notes on a bugle (in this case 21).

  • If you're going to insult me, at least spell "retard" right.

  • I'm sorry, a "RETARDO" is someone that is mentally challenged. I do not think you are mentally challenged i think you're just plain STUPID thus making you an IDIOT!!!!

  • I believe that word is "retard" not "retardo." If you're going to be calling anyone mentally challenged here, I'd take a quick look in the mirror and perhaps buy a dictionary while you're at it.

  • You even spelled an already mis-spelled word wrong. God, you're dumb.

  • LOL! I love people like you because they make the rest of the US population look smart.

How is walfare going for you?

  • How is the dictionary shopping going for you? Doesn't seem like it's going so well considering you also spelled "welfare" wrong.

  • LOL! Your 3rd grade education isn't working for you buddy because i know my tax paying ass is paying for your "welfare".

I hope you graduate the 3rd grade this year. Good luck!

  • I still see you can;t use you're correctly either. I'm a pretty damn smart 3rd grader if I do say so myself.

  • Mr dictionary, the way i used "your" was correct. You're means "YOU ARE" which is not used the way i used it. See dumbass that 2nd grade education isn't working for that welfare ass.

  • WOW I made one mistake, GOOD for you. How many mistake have you made? You really to try so hard to win an argument over the internet. Actually, why are you even arguing with me? In that last comment you said I had a 3rd grade education. That's points marked down for lack of consistency.

Where's the period in Mr? More points knocked down. When using names, you have to capitalize the letter. Since dictionary is apparently my last name, you didn't capitalize it. Keep the comments coming please.

  • Its actually "try to" instead of "to try" like you have it stated in your comments. You made another mistake my friend. You argued with me 1st. All i wanted was this guy to take down this post and do the song correctly, thats all. What he did was good but its still wrong.

  • I only said to take down your comment because you mis-spelled a word wrong, which was a reference to what you said about him messing up. Everyone makes mistakes, you can't expect a cover of something to be perfect. If it's not to your expectations, find a different video. (Yes I am aware that I did make a mistake in that last comment.)

  • Of all the places to argue, this video is not at all an appropriate one, especially when your topic of argument is so pathetic. Grow up and have some respect.

  • @neelradhakrishnan

Noticed that this argument has ended over a week ago. How about trying to read when a comment was last made before responding to one?

  • I did notice when it was made, and it has no bearing on what I said. You're evidently in no position to refute what I said but if you insist on arguing, post it on my channel; I'm not going to say any more on this video.

  • Now you're just purposely trying to make me argue.

  • @Shadowy0shi9 Well theyare correct in saying that you suck at writing. I mean look at this post. seriously. You just made a five foot hole into a crator.

  • @211kschlickusmc

    *Notices you spelled "crater" wrong.

    *Laughs heartily"

  • @sf16montana this is so fucking awesome. i am in the marines and a bugler thus know the exact meaning of this bugle call. the real meaning and the one that it has become today. and there is no such thing as a 21 note taps. completely correct that it should be done correctly.

  • IN MEMORY OF Daniel K

  • you can play the whole song with open valves.

  • @IxdokuxI dude. no shit. you can play it with first valve. you can play it 1 and 2. you can play it 1 and 3. you can play it 23. and you can, just for shits and giggles, play it 123.

  • sorry about daniel. RIP

  • Sorry about dainel i use to be in the army and navy

  • It goes: G G C G C E G C E G C E G C E C E G E C G G G C. More importantly, RIP Daniel.

  • u got skills.sorry bout daniel

  • dude, you got some serious skills there

  • pretty good

  • whoa better then me. nice.

  • The real heros are the ones who never got to come home. I want you to know my heart goes out to you for your loss and I realize that I am one of the lucky ones to have been able to make it back.

  • notes?

  • wow...your amazing... =) i can also play this and with the same notes but not as well as u do... well i guess i play it pretty well but not as well -)

  • @leadingham3000 Oh my god, what a douche!

  • Wow, I bet you don't have any musical talent what so ever. You can shut the fuck up.

  • get a life leadingham3000 !!!

  • @allenisthegame123 sure...

  • Nice kid, I really doubt that your better than that guy. Besides, its not up to you to decide if your better than someone. It's up to the audience. You can't just say that "I'm better than you." and that be it.

  • Who are you... Dean?

  • irish boy: i play trumpet 2 years, and sometimes i have trouble with the E.... lol and sometimes i can get the VERY HIGH 'G' ! i guess it all depends on how well cared for your lips are.... maybe.

  • Don't understand. 10th note came in at :14 which was not missed neither was the 11th or 12th. Please explain.

  • And Dropshort105 is spot on with his comment. TAPS is sounded at more Military Funeral Honors by a Civilian patriot than it is by Military personnel. The Military uses an IPod stuck into a fake Bugle.

This guy does have a nice tone, and gold standard vibrato. If I was that good, I'd take that post down and put another up right away - played properly. Out of respect for a sacred song, it the best thing to do.

  • @earl07866 actually the military does not use a fake bugle. most of the time. yes we do have one. however, i am the one standing at every funeral at beaufort memorial playing taps with a real trumpet. and i dont miss any notes.

  • @211kschlickusmc

I never said that you missed notes. I stand my my statement that the military uses the digital more than a real instrument. With 1000-2000 funerals every day in the US, and with just over 250 trumpet players in our armed forces, Stevie Wonder can see the math. I have been involved at an executive level in MFH and stand by the truth that "More MFH are done with a digital than a live musician".

  • @211kschlickusmc As the USMC Bugler at Fort Beaufort, you should be proud to be the Bugler. Also, as USMC Bugler at Ft Beaufort, you should think twice before posting "F-Bombs

  • He missed the 10th, 11th and 12th notes. The six notes prior to the absent ones weren't played correctly either.

I'm not doubting his patriotism. The fact that he has a YouTube posting says nothing about his patriotism - either way. I certainly hope that he wasn't 'sounding' at a funeral in that attire.

  • I'm glad you noticed this. I commented on the missed notes and people went off on me. I wanted the guy to take off the video and put it up there correctly. I don't think he did a good job at all either and its kinda disrespectful leaving that video up.

  • Calm down Mr. Perfect, people make mistakes and this video is proof of that.

  • it is pretty sad that a guy who can play his horn this well didn't bother to learn taps.

  • id get wat u r sayin

  • This guy did a good job, the guy who said he missed three notes, are you a bugler, if you are post yourself playing it, if not, shut up., I am not in any way being disrespectful to the armed forces of the USA but you guys are not the only people who play Taps and the last post to remember your fallen,
