Chris slade is a veteran in drumming! The Razors edge say's it all) he added alot of spice to that record & as a drummer myself its the best ac/dc album ever musician wise! phil is better as looks & style! buy chris would drum circles around phil! just the song "the razors edge" has more fills & tom work than any track they ever recorded! go listen::::
More yet...No disrespect to Chris,Simon,or Mark;but I believe that Phill,Malcom, and Cliff are quite possibly the best rythm section ever heard in a hard rock band.I am a fan of AC/DC,but my true musical roots and love is heavy metal such as Iron Maiden,Savatage,Dream Evil,Annilihator,Accept, etc.Just so you all know where this is coming from.
To continue..If you play, try a Rudd tune, and play it 'exactly' as Phil does..to quote an Acca Dacca tune.."it's harder than it looks". Get an objective party to screen Phil and you. When that party sez you play it with the same consistient attack, tone, and flawless timing as Phil does, send a response and post it on utube.Phil is a part of the 'life and soul' of AC/DC.
Please keep in mind that what follows is from a drummer. Phil Rudd is possibly one of the most "rock solid" stick men in the business and I would class him with Steve Gadd,Neil Peart,Buddy Rich, etc. He may not appeal to some as he is not quite as "showy" as others and perhaps seems less enthusiastic.Make no mistake,he plays it on the KISS principle - keep it simple, stupid, but i'm sure he keeps better time than a high priced metronome..
Phil Rudd's drive and feel, to me, fits the band better, not to mention the fact that Phil has played in this band alot longer, which of course makes a world of difference. Chris is great, but Phil will always be my pick! THE King of the 4/4!!!
I love Phil Rudd, great drummer no doubt, and in no way is this any disrespect to him, or the trillions of AC/DC fans out there (as I am one myself) , I just prefer watching slade due to his excitement he shows while playing on the Donnington video, he was really into it. With Phil, he always has a way tooo serious look, almost as if he treats it like a job, and not being part of the GREATEST ROCK BAND ON EARTH, PLAYING THE GREATEST SONGS EVER MADE. hope people understand what Im sayin
i mean his way of drumming while Angus do the striptease was awesome !! like when Angus flashed his ass =] then slade hits the Crash kit as hard as he can with a smile on his face =]
he got some character =]
but Phil has that original Phil Rudd drummin you know ... listen to ballbreaker <<< thats exactly what i mean =] ... and i also like him the way he is ... cool that is =]
hes right Angus did say that, Chris was a great drummer, more enthusiastic for sure, a lot more fun to watch but i think as far skill Phil is just as good
OMG Phil is AC/DC, his drums go perfect with the band! Just coz chris pulls off some fast snare drum part or some tom solo doesn't make him best. Phil keeps a good steady beat and keeps rock alive.
Slade was the one who recorded the razor's edge, played the Monsters of Rock gig in Moscow and the famous 90's Donington concert. Phil Rudd doesn't come close to Slade.
I got nothing against Chris Slade. He's an awesome drummer and what not but, it's not good enough that he's already in the Rock 'N' Roll hall of fame with AC/DC? He's got to be in by himself? If I were him, being in the Rock 'N' Roll hall of fame with AC/DC would be the greatest honor I could ever recive and nothing would ever be able to beat that. If I were him and they asked me to be in the Rock 'N' Roll hall of fame by myself if I were already in it with AC/DC, I'd Refuse!
how dear you to talk about chris!!! you ignorants.. seems that you never play and see a drum.. its easy to talk without knowing what to say.. phil=history, simon=play with balls, chris= best musician ever means perfection, speed, inteligence, actitude... RESPECT!!!
i hated when theyplayed TNT with this guy.. it just didnt sound right. i prefer phil rudd over any drummer theyve had. i like the razors edge album though, but chris slade just doesnt fit into the band..
Chris Slade isn't in the Hall of Fame with AC/DC if they are talking about the American HOF. Aside from the current lineup (Angus & Malcolm Young, Brian Johnson, Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd) the only other inductee is Bon Scott. They didn't even include Mark Evans, who was the original bassist and played on several albums. So why would they include Chris Slade who only played on the Razor's Edge album and tour?

Man, Chris Slade still looks great. I like Live At Donington as much as I do the 1981 bootlegs.
