The top highest quality films ever made, well surprise surprise they were ALL made in the '60s.
So much for todays HD generated rubbish.
All shot onto 70mm film the following 5 films have the highest resolution (highest picture quality) and all make todays modern computer generated films look awful.
1. Laurence of Arabia 2. Breakfast at Tiffany's 3. My Fair Lady 4. Zulu 5. The Sound of Music
Hello everybody! My name is German. I was surfing in internet when I saw a nice kid singing two amazing songs; Caruso & Nessun Dorma. He sings super! If you want to see him, you must put in the youtube search: Guido Aberastain! He sings really amazing
It's so funny, when I meet Americans and I tell them that I'm from Austria, they always say "Oh Austria! The sound of music" ( or "Oh Austria! Arnold Schwarzenegger" ^^)
But I don't think that a lot of Austrians actually saw this movie. I think it's more popular in the US than in Austria.
@schmuin It is just because most of the Austrian still can't face the fact that their referendum on the Anschluss with Nazi Germany held in Austria on April 10, 1938.
@gracewong9999 oh really? are u from austria? do you know any austrians? you have no idea what you are talking about
i'm aware that many things went wrong in austria concerning coping with the past but it's not true that every austrian sees themselves as the "victim" of the second world war. you know what? we have parents or grandparents who actually fought in this war, so believe me, i am aware.. we are aware!
and i was just saying that it's funny that hardly anyone in austria saw the musical.
@gracewong9999 okay tanks, i read the article and i maybe will read the book one time but i honestly don't see your point, what are you trying to tell me?
i'm austrian and you don't have to tell me i know all about that and i know a lot of things in went wrong (and still do), remember i live there and you don't, so can you PLEASE stop to generalize? beacause i don't see austria as the victim of the II WW as i already said and i don't know anybody who does.
@gracewong9999 and i think there are good points in the article e.g. that we don't like such movies because now everybody thinks we austrians run around in dirndl every day and that sucks
but everything apart that is crap i think because to say that the movie isn't popular in austria because we are not able to cope with our past is not true. don't believe we don't learn and talk about the history. it really sucks that people like you say such things about austrians because that really hurts
@gracewong9999 that's so true! that's also the reason why our schools don't teach any history!
seriously, think before you say things like that - obviously you don't live in austria and also have no idea about our land and the people who live there. don't generalize people like that and go learn something about a land before you're trying to act smart. i'm so sick and tired of people like you.
If your going to add Nazi's or at least the swastika in movies, at least make the movie actually WWll-related instead of a movie that people sing ALL DAY.
@OmgLPSYay are you a Neo Nazi or something? " ..a disgrace to the Nazi's." ?!! Go watch Hitler screw himself..leave the movie alone if you don't like it!! This is a MUSICAL movie about a family during WWII, not about the war itself, that's why they're singing all day.. effing idiot...
This movie is based on the life of maria von trapp and coming to the film version The Trapp Familie a 1956 West german came first before this movie. On my point of view The sound of Music is an inspired American version of The Trapp familie. If u like it or not it is a fact.
...memories as a child when dad and mum would only let us watch the Beta-max during the weekends [discipline baby!]. I miss those days, love your parents while you have them folks!!
This movie was a tool of the Illuminati to re-program how people heard music, and promote the spirituality draining A=440hz tuning. The Rockefeller family and the Military did research on the effects of different sounds on people, for weapons and warfare and this film was a devious and well packaged way to promote this suppressive sound onto the masses of people. Tell your musician friends to tune to A=444 to feel the difference in sound for their health and for peace. x
Our school took all students to see this movie when it first came out... we all thought it was going to be boring, but we all just loved it. (BTW, my family is from New York, USA

@RichardElden Clearly an attempt to snatch at any stray wisps of attention that you may be able to obtain-albeit negative attention-but still, rather funny.
For those fans that love this movie, there's a cool ringtone, of Maria Von Trapp saying "where the lord closes a door somewhere he opens a window" type 'deblume' into amazon.com or itunes or zune..
my friend - ( Miss Freeze ) playes the soundtrack to this on her ipod while she dances naked in the street. thats why she is a popular girl in her part of Germany !
@RichardElden It's a good thing you're out of slapping range, your vomit-like comments reflect the "flushability" of your shit for brains, why don't you get a pistol and play russian roullette,,, with the A FULL CHAMBER. geezz,, there's certainly no shortage of village idiots!!!
@RichardElden No,,, you're crap, any human being that thinks this way needs an ass whippin, and you,, are WAY OVERDUE BUDDY! I think the doctor slapped your mom when you were born!
Certainly, this is the musical of musicals, excepting "South Pacific", which is on par, or, to some,, just a bit better, but, either one makes you feel so good, something that we need these days! Some people say these musicals are just too "Pollyanna", well,, compared to any movie these days, and television as disgusting as it is,, give me "Pollyanna" anytime!!!
Amazing. This movie touched my heart the first time I watched it. And it touched my heart the last time I watched it. And it would Still touch my heart if I were to watch it again.
@glittersmile it's totally awesome... when you love a movie that you love to watch it, no matter how many times, to the point you can recite it by heart... that's when you know it has touched your soul =)
If i was in the movie, i would of worn a red bandana, black shirt, Army BDU camo pants, CAT steel toe boots, black Carhartt coat, unshaven beard and packing a Beretta 92FS.
Did anyone else notice that in the movie when the boat falls over Maria falls backwards over the boat but in this trailer she fall in front of the boat!?!?
i remember my high school days when we have to travel 8hrs only to see this movie.oh imagine! its a long long travel but mind you i can sing all the songs and remember them one by one even at my age at 60!!!
it's funny how nearly every american knows this movie while in austria noone knows or watches it. when i visited america people where shocked because I've never heard of it. i think some americans have a really wrong imression of austrians. they think we still run around in Dirndelns that all of us ski and that we can all jodeln but dont get me wrong now that i saw the movie i really liked it but this isn't what austrians are like ..
@haileymendes I think you've taken it the wrong way. Maybe they just thought that the film was known worldwide. No one I know of thinks that way of Austrians.
Julie Andrews is 75 years old now, but she's still so beautiful and looks like 40.. The first time I saw her was in Princess Diary. I didn't know she was the actress and also the singer in the Sound of music. "I am 17 going on 18" =)) but I still love this movie and the songs. The song writers are Genius. I found that the men and women at that time had a very defined beauty that nowaday hardly be found. The first song I heard was "Doe a deer ..." and I didn't know it was in this movie either =))
@RichardElden What a hater you are, and only 19 years old. It's very sad that you get off on it. Yeah, I read the other comments on your channel and apparently you are spreading your hate all over YouTube. I'm sorry for whatever has happened to you to make you this way, but spreading your hatred anonymously behind a computer screen is really pathetic. I hope you get over it before you reproduce. (BTW, my family is from Northern Ireland.)
I've been to Austria twice now, but haven't been to Salzburg yet. I'll have to make it the next time! What great scenery and Mozart's birthplace, to boot.
@vatonorteno My friend and I love Sound of Music so much, particularly the Austrian maid Frau Schmidt, that we made a parody of the musical told from Frau's perspective. It's a comedy that we both wrote. If you're interested in seeing it yourself, youtube "Sound of Frau" and click on the version with the best quality! :D
Nobody will be absolutey grow tired of this evergreen, classica, adorable, masterpiece movie throughout decades over decades...am i not right..everyone?
It's a shame! I never had an opportunity to watch this movie in English. I LOVE it but I would love it more if I had heard it with Julie's own voice, not a translation.
@Anox1e: wow you should definitaly watch it, it's a classic... really I love this movie :) It's a very old movie, but it's loved by generation after generation. So everyone who hasn't seen it: go to a dvd-rental now and rend this (or even better, buy it :p) A MUST SEE !!! :D
i've never seen this movie before... and everyone says im crazy but it looks like a good movie cuz its not a new one, its old which is the best. i shall watch this!

whaaaaaa i just saw her this morning at perpich school and am so happy to see her in person its like a dream ^_^ she will be in the news tonight she perform at perpich school Art Music education i love her so much ^_^
You know, I have never seen this film the whole way through. I used to watch the first half over and over when I was a kid but when It got to the intermission, I always used to turn it off because I thought that was the ending LOL!
Dick Wesson, usually the voice of Walt Disney's theatrical trailers from the '50s through the '70s, was "borrowed" for this special one. Alternate takes of several scenes WERE used here....well, what are you waiting for? GO SEE IT!!!!!!

Who can blame Christopher Plumber for falling for Julie Andrews when she is soaking wet.
Back in 1965 there were few big movie stars to rival her beauty.
We have come to accept Julie playing Maria in the most successful musical of all time.
Can you think of any woman back in the early 1960s to rival her natural beauty and charm.
It's almost as if Rogers & Hammerstein had written the musical with Julie in mind.

it's funny how nearly every american knows this movie while in austria noone knows or watches it. when i visited america people where shocked because I've never heard of it. i think some americans have a really wrong imression of austrians. they think we still run around in Dirndelns that all of us ski and that we can all jodeln but dont get me wrong now that i saw the movie i really liked it but this isn't what austrians are like ..

@haileymendes I think you've taken it the wrong way. Maybe they just thought that the film was known worldwide. No one I know of thinks that way of Austrians.

@RichardElden You are lack of education. That's all about you and sure you should have already known about it yourself. If you didn't, poor you.

It's a shame! I never had an opportunity to watch this movie in English. I LOVE it but I would love it more if I had heard it with Julie's own voice, not a translation.

type in and watch -
"Beamer on stage performance"
look for "Gobblefish Soup"
This talented 8 year old will steal your heart. You'll love his humor as you love his vocal range -
and just when you thought today's youth knew nothing of classic stage entertainment.
He is so talented you can point him in any direction and he won't disappoint.
Check him out now so you can say you did years from now.

Dick Wesson, usually the voice of Walt Disney's theatrical trailers from the '50s through the '70s, was "borrowed" for this special one. Alternate takes of several scenes WERE used here....well, what are you waiting for? GO SEE IT!!!!!!
