That's cool, 1984 digitised voice output. I find this a bit more convincing than in 1981's Castle Wolfenstein, because here you can actually understand what they're saying =)
@dogcatmouse23 It gets boring after awhile...It isnt a bad game....just repetitive. You can beat the game in about 15 minutes...then you go onto a higher level of difficulty on the same 3 game screens...and then you beat the game again...etc;
The only thing that Space Taxi is missing is the "game over" music from Rescue Squad as a lot of the music from Space Taxi is carried over from Rescue Squad (RIP Silas Warner).
Ahhh many a night was spent playing this hearing "Hey Taxi"...It meant I was late for schooll more times than care to remember!...Clasiic 80's memories
and all that time, i thought Crazy taxi was a orginal game, but all that time, there allready whas a taxi game allready :-D. but to be honest, i knew about this game allready, it was verry fun at that time. and for it's time, it really felt smooth. i liked the way if you landed to hard, the cab shudders and falls down the screen :-). and the now infamous words "Hey, Taxi!" will always bring memories of this game :-D
I loved this game too, if you want to play it on a modern device then go to itunes there is a similar game called cabby that has just been released by Hidden Games
LOL. I love this game too. I have it for the amiga. Better sound & graphics of course... I forgot how crude the sound and graphics is on the c64. BTW I've owned c16, vic 20, 2 x c64, c128, 8 x amiga 500's , 1 x amiga 2000, 2 x amiga 1200, just to mention a few.
this crap is tite, i luvd this game one of my favs. got a commodore 128 from my gf's dad and later sold it to my friend... shoulda kept it... now i want it again
That brings back memories. Back in the late '80s, I got that game from a friend, who copied it for me. One of my favorites! I still have, at least, one Commodore 64 as well as that game somewhere. Boy, I've been busy with stuff lately, besides my current job. I hope I'll get around to setting up my C-64 soon and see how it still works.
@discolando For me, it's that I want to go back to when a game like this was enough for people. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the sophisticated modern games, too, but it's the attitudes of the players that's become a problem. :( All they want is more, bigger, flashier, etc. They've forgotten how to enjoy the simpler things.
Now, excuse me, I have to go get my cane and chase those darn kids off my lawn again. ;)
@Lennyfred i still got my orginal commodore 64 :-D. and on sites where they sell second hand stuff, you may find them as well, as here in the netherlands (dutch) there are still plenty of them being sold second hand. and there is even a device where you can put your emulator roms on, and play them on a original commodore 64! me and my nephew have one of them :-D
If you completed the 24 hour shift (random or not, iirc), you'd go into final level. Was it so called mystery screen? There, a nazi was marching, same sprite from Castle Wolfenstein. Great game.
Jeeez, I remember my first attempts at this wonderfull game ... always stressing to get up when they finally said up ... and crashing in the exit ^^ Aaah, wonderfull gaming memories.
What's funny, as I look back on my childhood, 90% of the games I played on the C64 were cracked. Back then, I just assumed that's how they all were! :)
Dang, I had this game and it took a half hour to load. They don't make fun games like this anymore. I love how everyone sounds like they have tracheotomies.
Yes - Space Taxi was one of my favorites back in those days. Man, I wish I still had my Commodore 64 - I'd love to fire up the ol' Space Taxi. In a lot of ways, these old games are a lot more fun than any of today's games, with today's graphics and sounds. You just can't beat the classics.
I miss the days when games were DIFFERENT from one another. Sure there were a lot of clones, but when games didn't take 36 months to code there seemed to be more variety. At least the Internet gives Flash games and shareware an audience impossible in 1983.
Such nostalgia, it just amazes me how only 64k 20some years ago could make people happier than the MegaCPU's with astonishing graphics of today. Don't get me wrong, nowadays games are superb and incredibly realistic... but the feel will never be the same.
"HEY TAXI!" ... when I played this game it was the first time I heard speech on the Commodore 64 ... when I hear it now then the sound is weird but in that time it was absolutely phantastic!
did you get to the secret level with the castle wolfenstine security guards as customers?

you almost killed your first passenger lol
I think this is one of the games that used S.A.M., and you could use a hex editor to mod the speech text and the passengers would say it.
This game ate about 200 hours of my life, not counting modding it

If he ran this on the original hardware, you'd get a low quality steadycam shot of an ancient TV with horrendous audio quality....
And it would take several minutes to load the game....
