  • imagine if they had the semi-auto pistol during the civil war

  • At the attack of Fort Gregg at Petesburg when the Federals climbed over the dirt walls they told a Confederate who was holding on to a lanyard of a 12 pdr with double canister ready to fire "Drop the lanyard or we'll fire!" the Confederate said "Then shoot and be damned!" then yanked the lanyard firing canister into the Union soldiers climbing over the wall then was shot by several Federals.

  • glorious death? nonsense dead is dead, if I have to beat a hasty retreat in the face of overwhelming oposition I will, if only to have the opportunity to put lead into the enemy later.

  • M1a2 Abrams uses canister shot to devastating effect now days still.

  • @611Cowboy Many times in the Civil War they would load double or triple canister making it even more effective, at Pickett's charge they used canister and shot it at the ground intfront of the Confederates making the balls bouce off the ground into the line of men giving it a more flatter dispersion of the shot.

  • I bet the LeMat was difficult to make

  • colt has always been overrated. Times never change.

  • There were units armed with Colt revolving rifles, but they still used cap and ball ammunition.

  • Smith and Wesson and Remington made excellent revolvers also. The Smith and Wesson used a cartridge, but came in a small caliber.

  • LeMat = French name ("The Mast")

    Minié = French officer/inventor

  • I am looking for the original ," winchester-gun," any information you can give me?

  • @chasechelsie59 I suppose you are referring to the Henry rifle. Chambered in a .44 rimfire cartridge, it was often nicknamed the "damnyankee gun you could load on Sunday and fire all week".

  • @chasechelsie59 Cabela's sells just about any antique reproduction firearm, along with all necessary accessories, for a decent price. The principle two manufacturers are Uberti (better finish, but more expensive) and Pietta (less expensive but less prestigious as Uberti). Both are equally accurate and reliable as Pietta has recently closed the quality gap. You can visit their websites for more info. I recently bought a Remington .44 Revolver from Cabela's, made by Pietta, and was very impressed

  • @EnglishPub I own an italian made Uberti 1858 remington new army revolver cap and ball .44 cal pistol with walnut grips, its the most beautiful hand gun I own, and I own a lot of nice firearms, it would be my favourite but I like my MG42/53 just a bit better and my SKS and AR15 after that, but that Uberti 1858 sure makes me feel powerful when holding it hahaha

  • Colt was an ass. No one remembers his revolving rifle because when it chain fired, it required surgery to fix. And I think the Remington 1858 is better simply because it doesn't have that wedge securing the barrel that make it like getting your teeth drilled to maintain originals. The gun is 150 years old, I'll be damned before I hit it with a chisel.

  • Hey, check out my video of the Sumner attack. The video's on my page.

  • So WWII buffs get CODtards while Civil War buffs get RDRtards.

  • They talk about the Napoleon and canister shot as if it were something revolutionary. The Napoleon was hardly different to artillery over the previous hundred years, and canister shot was nothing new. The civil war was the last time it was used in any quantity

  • @crippmeister Thought the same.

  • damn now i know where all these common gun brands come from colts reminington spencers mybe in the next video they will talk about smith and westons

  • "Honorable death" - the operative term is "death" any way you look at it. With that appreciated, in war honor is a load of bullshit. To go to war is dirty business. Canons know nothing of honor or bravery nor cowardice - only of death and how to deliver it in an indiscriminate but efficient manner as possible. Whoever has the more lethal technology always want their enemies to be honorable: The more honorable your foes are, they easier they are to destroy. Sad fact but true.

  • a lemat is the strogest of revlovers. espically in red dead.

  • @zygas25 The colt single action is actually more powerful from what I hear. So the first gun you get in Red Dead Redemption is actually more powerful, so I hear.

  • Napolean feared the air gun more than anything. It could kill a deer and was probably the first sniper rifle. Wonder if they had a gun like that in the civil war?

  • @jrwel14 scoped musketsscoped repeaters

  • @jrwel14 He didn't really fear airguns, he just thought they were cowardly and unsoldierly. They were also horrendously unreliable in the field, complicated to use and had little stopping power, unlike many other rifles in service (you could call them sniper rifles) like the Baker or the Jägerbusche.

  • The gentleman at 9:30 - secs. has an uncanny resemblance to actor "TOM CRUISE".

  • The gentleman at 9:30- secs. has the most uncanny resemblance to actor "Tom Cruise", gimme a thumbs up if anyone of you out there agrees!

  • @ 2:16 Rack and Pinion?? I would call it more of a Bell Crank!!

  • I think you will find colt stole the design of the revolving cylinder off a British made design. I think he stole it when he visited England, but who cares right USA and UK always should share weapons tech.

  • no he invened it first and he invented semi-auto revolver

  • I mean the design not the gun,the design of revolving chambers was a British design intended for navy heavy guns. He came to England saw this design and took it back with him hence incorporating it into his colt revolving hand gun.

  • @11251309 no he was dead in 1911 i think

  • Awesome gun!

  • wow lemat is the weapon of choice! very interesting vid

  • Colts were a rip off during the war. they were over priced and weren't strong like the Remington's were because of the full frame not to mention Remington's were faster to switch out cylinders

  • @BhamsterWA You could switch out the cylinders?!!

  • @BhamsterWA yea your right but in the old west era after civil war the colt 45were prefered guns

  • @BhamsterWA 44. remington vs 45. colt 2 shots 1 minor wound 1 dead guy with a 45 in his chest

  • The LeMat would Blow your F'N head off at close range, no doubt! Damn.

  • @JeffTheFutureJaros

More like put lots of tiny holes in you. The scattergun round was REALLY small. Only about 20 gauge.

  • I own a LeMat for my living history hobby; its nice...big but nice; i prefer a remington with 6 cylinders

  • @wellington1800 hey do u know how much a springfield repilca rifled musket would be

  • The le mat is a very interesting revolver. I think i will buy a replica soon ;o).

  • @SharpsShootist denix has a le mat replica, it doesnt fire though

  • helps for history projext thx

  • thankyou for the post!
