@OneMrTrouble The problem with bowling without a thumb is the amount of strain that is put on the common flexor tendon, which is the muscle that makes your elbow flex. People who bowl like this tend to see more problems such as golfers elbow and even detaching the muscle. Not only that, it is next to impossible to duplicate the same release because you have no triggers to tell you when you have flexed too far or not far enough, as we all know bowling is all about consistency.

@agratias716 not entirely true. without a solid approach you can generate good speed OR decent rotation (rotation is all in the release) but you can't get both together. good speed without the rotation to match it makes you a one trick pony in terms of where you can play the shot and if it's not there you're in trouble. same goes for too much rotation without the speed to keep the ball on the correct side of the lane. to get both together you need solid fundamentals, i.e. a solid approach

@OneMrTrouble The problem with bowling without a thumb is the amount of strain that is put on the common flexor tendon, which is the muscle that makes your elbow flex. People who bowl like this tend to see more problems such as golfers elbow and even detaching the muscle. Not only that, it is next to impossible to duplicate the same release because you have no triggers to tell you when you have flexed too far or not far enough, as we all know bowling is all about consistency.

PBA shots are NOT sport-compliant. for a shot to be sport-compliant the oil ratio must be either 3:1 or 2:1, which PBA lane conditions are NOT. i've been bowling almost as long as you've been alive, i know every PBA shot like the back of my hand and i know more about lane play and the dynamic properties of a bowling ball and how surface and layout will alter reaction than you could dream of.

PBA lane conditions are NOT sport compliant. ask anybody who knows anything, SPORT conditions are MORE CHALLENGING than PBA conditions. totally different shots. sport conditions require more accuracy and put a greater emphasis on spare shooting. @agratias716 not entirely true. without a solid approach you can generate good speed OR decent rotation (rotation is all in the release) but you can't get both together. good speed without the rotation to match it makes you a one trick pony in terms of where you can play the shot and if it's not there you're in trouble. same goes for too much rotation without the speed to keep the ball on the correct side of the lane. to get both together you need solid fundamentals, i.e. a solid approach

actually, moron, the friction of the hand coming off the ball when you cup it like i do creates calluses. i found a way to eliminate them. i started using the glove when i was fighting bicep tendonitis to the point where i couldn't hold a bowling ball and was forced to use a wrist device to prevent myself from hitting up on the ball too much and over working the bicep muscle.
further, i bowl in ONE 36 week league, ONCE a week, and sub in another, which means i bowl maybe twice all season.

I've had cartilage taken out of my right knee, two surgeries on my left knee, including a complete ACL reconstruction. Two hernia operations, and within the past few weeks, I've gotten 3 steroid injections in my lower back to alleviate pain from a herniated disk that I've had for 15 years.
